WWW Wednesdays #34 – April 8th

wwwwednesdaysOriginally featured at Should Be Reading and now hosted by Sam at Taking On A World Of Words, WWW WEDNESDAYS is still about answering the following three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?

ataleoftwocities???????????I’ve put A Tale Of Two Cities by Charles Dickens temporarily on hold because I wasn’t in the mood to read classics and I didn’t want to end up hating the novel because of that. I’m currently reading Funereal by Giacomo Lee, an ARC provided by the publisher that I’m really enjoying so far.  Fingers crossed it stays that way!

  • What did you recently finish reading?

ruinandrisingwewereliarsI finished Ruin And Rising yesterday, and with that I have completed yet another trilogy! I love Leigh Bardugo‘s writing and I’m definitely looking forward to read more about Ketterdam in Six Of Crows. It will be a long wait until september… I’ve also read We Were Liars by E. Lockhart during the long weekend, although I didn’t end up enjoying it as much as I would have hoped. I guess it’s another case of a seriously overhyped novel… Full reviews of both titles are probably up before the weekend.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

thestorytellerredqueenMy TBR cup got me The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult last week, but I haven’t been in the mood so far for a historical fiction WWII novel. It sounds like a great read so I will probably read it next though! If not, I will most likely end up reading Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

  1. I still need to read We Were Liars and Red Queen. I’ve had the books for a couple months now! I just haven’t been able to get to them. I need to increase my reading of books on my own. I’ve mostly been doing audiobooks at home and reading books on my own so slow! I’ve also been really wanting to read Shadow and Bone.

SO MANY BOOKS TO READ! Ahhhh!!

    • It took me a long time before I picked up We Were Liars as well, mostly because I was afraid of the huge hype around this title… And I ended up not enjoying it as much as I would have liked. The Grisha series is one of my favorite YA Fantasy series so far! I love Leight Bardugo’s writing and it’s definitely worth reading. 🙂 I’m trying to stay away from audiobooks for the exact same reason; I will probably end up being too lazy to actually read books lol. My TBR pile is so intimidating that I don’t even know where to start anymore!

      • I’m always afraid to read books that have a lot of hype, because then I tend to find a reason to hate it or a reason that something is wrong with it….I’m weird, lol. With the job that I have, it’s so easy to listen to audiobooks all day, so that’s why I have been doing it. Eight hours of staring at a computer doing work can get boring sometimes, so audiobooks help with that…but because of that, I have been going through so many books that I think that is why I am constantly getting into reading slumps. It has helped with my TBR list though. I usually get audiobooks of the books that I do want to read, but not sure if I would ever actually get around to buying or reading them.

      • Me too! I normally prefer to wait until the hype is over or at least has calmed down before I read it… Like you I normally tend to end up being disappointed by them. 😉
Audiobooks are definitely a good solution if you want to read while doing something boring… I’ve been tempted many times but until now I prefer to read them myself. I guess I just couldn’t get used to the reading voices.

      • Some audiobooks I have had to stop listening to if the narrator sucked. If you have a good narrator, then it is so easy to get used to the voices.

      • I guess I haven’t came across the right narrator yet, although I admit I haven’t been looking actively for a good audiobook. 😉

  2. I’m with you on the overhype of We Were Liars. I wasn’t a fan of it at all. I really need to read the Leigh Bardugo trilogy. On my neverending list! Interested in what you’ll think of Red Queen. It’s another hyped book that’s been staring at me on my Kindle, but I haven’t given in yet! Happy reading!

    • I had such high expectations of We Were Liars that it really turned out to be a disappointment… I’m glad I wasn’t the only one. The The Grisha trilogy is definitely worth reading! One of my favorite YA Fantasy series so far. I’m a bit afraid of actually reading Red Queen because of the hype, so we’ll see if I end up reading it… I might end up posponing it for now and wait until the hype is over.

    • Good to know! I always love reading historical fiction, especially when they are set during WWII… And from what I’ve read so far, The Storyteller is a great read. 🙂

  3. I’ve recently read Shadow and Bone and I really want to complete the trilogy. I’m sorry We Were Liars let you down. I haven’t read that yet, but I do plan to, along with Red Queen. I can’t wait to see what you think of it.
    Happy Reading! 🙂

    • I loved reading both Siege And Storm and Ruin And Rising, although I still prefer the first novel over the sequels… Still, the trilogy is definitely worth reading! And I’m keeping my fingers crossed Red Queen will live up to the hype…

  4. I have We Were Liars but haven’t gotten to it yet. Maybe I should have just borrowed it from the library. Oh well! I really want to read Red Queen! I really want to read the Leigh Bardugo trilogy! When I was at my library last I looked for the first book but someone must have already had it checked out. Here’s hoping for next time! 🙂

    • Who knows, you might end up enjoying We Were Liars way better than I did! I know a lot of people have been really positive about it… I loved reading The Grisha trilogy; impressive world building and I love Leigh Bardugo’s prose! Definitely a series worth reading. I hope you will be able to find a copy in the library next time! 🙂

  5. I’m so sorry ‘We Were Liars’ was overhyped for you. I think I’d have the same problem if I picked it up because I’ve heard so much about it. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

    • It’s always a shame when a novel ends up being overhyped and doesn’t live up to expectations… I guess I should have waited a while more before reading it; who knows, I might have ended up enjoying it better! Happy reading! 😀

    • I’m glad I’m not the only one! I lot of people have been raving over We Were Liars during the last few months, but I just couldn’t feel the same…

    • I normally tend to stay away from hyped books unless they sound really good… I prefer reading books that are maybe less known but that way also potentially full of surprises. I personally wouldn’t recommend We Were Liars; there are way better novels out there.

  6. I love Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha Trilogy! It so good! I’m eagerly looking forward to Six of Crows. You should definitely read Red Queen! I loved that book so much.

    • I loved the trilogy as well! I can’t wait for Six Of Crows to come out… I’ve started reading Red Queen today, and so far it’s awesome. Finally a book that seems to live up to the hype around it!
