- What are you currently reading?
I’m still slowly making progress on The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I can’t deny it is a very well written novel, but the pace is quite slow and it’s hard to keep my attention for long. I guess that’s why I have been reading so many books in between… Currently it’s Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. So far I’m really enjoying this read, so I will probably finish it first before trying to pick up The Goldfinch again.
- What did you recently finish reading?
I finished reading Masquerade by Kylie Fornasier the other day and wasn’t overly impressed by it. I guess that at least I was able to cross off another era for the When Are You Reading? challenge… I’ve also finished The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. Like with The Maze Runner, the slang really bothered me during the whole story. The plot is slightly better than the first one, but it still wasn’t like I really enjoyed this read.
- What do you think you’ll read next?
I’m having a really hard time deciding what to read next! The Kings Of Cool by Don Winslow is still on the radar, but I haven’t been in the mood for it. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher sounds like a ‘heavy’ read I’m not sure I want to read after finishing my current reads… So I might just give in and read Cress so I can finally continue Marissa Meyer‘s series. 😀
I thought The Scorch Trials had a slightly stronger plot than The Maze Runner too. The slang is annoying. It started to grate when it caused dialogues like this:
A: “Look, it’s another bitofrandomslang.”
B: “Huh? What’s that? I’m totally clueless here.”
A: “Oh, you know. .”
Unfortunately I didn’t think The Death Cure was any better. Although I think they ease up on the slang… 🙂

Exactly! The slang is really frustrating and doesn’t add anything to the plot… It’s just annoying. I didn’t really have high hopes for The Death Cure, but it’s good to know they ease up on the slang. 😉

I really like the prose and general plot, but it is quite a slow read… I’m not sure I will be able to finish it this month, but hopefully within the next two weeks. I keep ‘cheating’ and reading other books in between haha.

I have the Goldfinch on my TBR, but I get nervous when books start out slow!

It’s a bit hard to get into the story and the book is very long, but hopefully the rest of the story will make up for the slow start. (I’m currently about 25% into the story…)

The slow pace makes it really hard to finish The Goldfinch without reading other books… Or ending up in a reading slump. Hopefully I will be able to finish it within the next two weeks though.

Interesting books. I saw The Maze Runner if it is the same one you are talking about and I enjoyed the movie. I wonder if I would enjoy the book. I can understand some slang in a book but to much takes the focus off the book and what the writer is trying to portray to you. I might just have to put it on my TBR or might not.
Seeing that The Goldfich is a slow read I don’t know if I want to try and conquer that type of book. I get annoyed if a book just starts out slow! I don’t like a book going slow in the middle by then I should be nose in book and not wanting to put it down!

I haven’t seen The Maze Runner movie yet so I cannot compare, but the slang in the book is really annoying. I guess the worst part is that it doesn’t really add anything to the story… The general plot is interesting and I imagine it translates well to the screen if done right.
The Goldfinch is in a way quite interesting and very well written, but the slow pace is making it difficult for me to continue reading it for a long time. I know I will finish it at some point, but it is a little frustrating having to force myself to pick up a book.

I definitely suggest that you read Thirteen Reasons Why next. It’s one of my favorite books of all times.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children is really good and definitely not what I was expecting! I’m looking forward to be reading more of it tonight. And if Cress is anything as good as the first two books, I’m sure I will love it. 😀 Happy reading! ❤
