WWW WEDNESDAYS is hosted by Sam at Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
After finally finishing The Goldfinch two days ago, I’ve started two new reads. The first is a travel memoir: Five Weeks In The Amazon by Sean Michael Hayes. I will be reading various travel themed book within the next three weeks to really get in the travel mood for my backpacking trip… This one is interesting because I’ve been in Peru twice myself, although I’ve never actually visited the Amazon. I’ve also started reading Legend by Marie Lu the other day, a series I have been wanting to read for ages now. So far I’m loving it!
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
This time I’ve ‘only’ finished three books since my last WWW, mostly because it took me a long time to actually finish The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I’m glad I did though! It sure is a very well written book, but the pace is really slow and it took me ages to finish it. I’ve also read The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton, a very entertaining and fast read even though I had some minor problems with the characters and plot. The last one on the list is The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins. As I already feared, this one turns out to be yet another overhyped book. It’s not a bad story and I like the fact that it has an unreliable narrator, but like with Gone Girl I’m not sure it’s actually worth the hype.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I will probably try to read Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer and I Was Here by Gayle Forman is still my newest TBR jar pick. I also want to read The Kill Order by James Dashner so I can complete The Maze Runner series…
Well done on finishing The Goldfinch! I can’t say I’m overly keen to start it.

Have a great trip 🙂

The Goldfinch is very well written, but a pain in the *** to read… It took me almost two months to finish it, which is a long time considering I was able to read a lot of other books in July and August. 😉

Five Weeks in the Amazon sounds awesome! I love travel memoirs. Into The Wild is a good one. I love Jon Krakauer’s books.

Me too! I love memoirs in general and since I love to travel those are probably my favorite. I have been wanting to read Into The Wild for ages now! Hopefully I will be able to start it before the weekend.

I’m not surprised to hear that about The Girl on the Train. I almost think it’d be better to go into a book hoping it’s going to ok rather than amazing – far less chance your expectations will be disappointed.

I was lucky enough to be warned about The Girl On The Train various times before I started it, so I read it with low expectations. It’s not a bad read, just not worth the hype around. And thanks! 😀

I tend to wait for the hype to end and people are generally of the idea that “you know what it actually wasn’t that great” before I pick up a book. At least that’s what I just did with Divergent and I think I liked it better because I didn’t go into it with the hype still around it. I mean it’s still kinda hyped but people are generally of the opinion that it’s not THAT great. lol. I think the same applies to most hyped books and the kind of reader you are. Here’s my WWW. 🙂

I always try to do the same, although I might not have waited enough with The Girl On The Train. I already knew it was best not to have too high expectations (the mistake I made with Gone Girl), and I guess that’s why I was still able to enjoy it mostly. 😉

That’s good then!

I really want to read Legend! I have the e-book now, so I may get to it soon.
The boyfriend is reading Into the Wild and he is really liking it.
I Was Here was a pretty good read.
I’ve been so up and down on whether I want to read The Girl on the Train, but since I seen the e-book was on sale for a $1.99, I couldn’t pass it up. I’ll probably end up not reading it anytime soon though.
And YAY for finally finishing Goldfinch, lol! 🙂

Legend is really good so far! I can’t wait to continue reading it later today. I’m really looking forward to both Into The Wild and I Was Here as well… It might be best to wait with The Girl On The Train until the hype has slowed down a bit, or at least not read it with too high expectations… It’s not a bad read, but definitely overhyped. 😉 And I still can’t believe it took me two months to finish The Goldfinch lol.

I always find myself not enjoying overhyped books so much. I’ll definitely wait on reading it, but I don’t really have any plans to anytime soon. Glad you’re enjoying Legend! I’ve been dying to read it. 🙂

I’m thinking of reading The Kill Order soon as well. But maybe I’ll wait a year till it’s about to come out in the theatre? Who knows. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

That sounds like a great idea as well, although I will probably try to read it soon just so I can finish the series… Hopefully it will be better than the third book!

I did enjoy The Girl on the Train but then I read it before the hype… You seem to have some great choices and I applaud you for finishing The Goldfinch – here is my Wednesday post https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2015/09/02/this-week-in-books-september-2/

Good to hear you enjoyed The Girl On The Train; I found it entertaining as well, although not as good as the hype makes it seem. And I’m glad I finally finished The Goldfinch… I was already starting to believe I would never finish it!

I’m so glad you’re enjoying Legend! It’s such a good book and series. 🙂
I’ve been curious of The Girl on the Train; it’s been so hyped up! I’m sorry to see you didn’t enjoy it as much as others.
I also like the look of The Mind Readers, I might have to check it out! Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on it.
I sure hope you enjoy I Was Here, although I had some issues with it, I personally really liked it. ❤ The Kill Order isn't bad either. 😉
Happy reading!

I really like Legend so far! I have a copy of both sequels as well, so I might just read them all together. The Girl On The Train wasn’t mindblowing, but if you start reading with low expectations you will probably find it entertaining. The Mind Readers was a great read though! I will probably try to read I Was Here after I finish Legend…
Happy reading!

I liked The Girl on the Train, but you are right, it’s not worth the hype. I did like it better than Gone Girl, which I couldn’t finish. Here’s my post: http://darcysbookblog.com/2015/09/02/this-week-in-books-9-2-2105/

I think I prefer The Girl On The Train as well, although I gave them the same rating if I remember correctly (3,5). The characters of Gone Girl were even more annoying than those in The Girl On The Train…

Agreed. I hated the characters in Gone Girl, so much that I didn’t finish the book. The characters were mildly tolerable in Girl on the Train, I felt.

I felt the same about TGOTT. It was good, but not worth all the hype for sure. Happy reading this week!

It’s good to hear I wasn’t the only one underwhelmed by this read. Happy reading to you as well!

The Glodfinch and The girl on the train is on my TBR! But I am really lazy when it comes to slow paced books that are huge in size. But I will read it. Also, I have read I was here and it was an Okay kind of book. Not mind blowing amazing. Happy reading!

The Goldfinch is definitely a challenge! I’ve started reading I Was Here and so far it’s interesting… Although so far I’m not blown away by it either. Happy reading!

I keep putting it away.. Saying I’ll read it later. Hope I’ll get to it soon. And I was Here was good throughout, just not something I truly LOVED though. 🙂 Happy reading!

I had exactly the same problem; it took me almost two months to actually finish it (and I’ve read probably over 30 books while trying to read The Goldfinch).
I’m about 30% into I Was Here and the fact that nobody seems to know why Meg decided to kill herself is intriguing. Still, so far I think I’ve read better books dealing with suicide this year. Happy reading!

I opened the book like 3 months ago. Flipped through some pages and thought… Nah I’ll read it later and Later never came.. 😂😂😂

Haha sounds familiar! The Goldfinch was actually one of my TBR pile challenge titles, because I got a copy when it first came out and never read it until now. 😉

Its on my Challenge list too since it is a Pulitzer Prize winner. LoL

I want to read The Goldfinch too. It’s getting some amazing reviews. Happy reading!

It’s obviously very well written (it won a Pulitzer and all), but I wasn’t blown away by it. The pace is terribly slow and I didn’t fully connect to the characters… Especially the first 200 pages or so are really slow. I hope you enjoy it better if you decide to read it! 🙂
