WWW WEDNESDAYS is hosted by Sam at Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’ve started reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern earlier this week and so far I’m really enjoying this read. Hopefully it stays this way! I’ve also decided to start reading my last pending ARC Firebolt by Adrienne Woods yesterday evening… It’s been a while since I’ve read stories with dragons and so far it looks promising.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
Five finished titles this week… Looks like I’m getting back on track!
* Americosis Vol. 2 by Haydn Wilks was a novella full of chaos and madness I was able to finish the same day I posted my last WWW.
* I then finished The Kill Order by James Dashner, which means I can finally leave The Maze Runner series behind… I can’t say I was impressed by this prequel story either.
* Before starting with my creepy reads, I decided to read An Abundance Of Katherines by John Green first. It’s a quick and entertaining feel-good story, although nothing mindblowing. The teenage dialogues are very well done like always.
* My first creepy read of the month was Asylum by Madeleine Roux, a story with just the right scary factor and a bunch of creepy old asylum photos to look at.
* The last book I finished this week is I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells. I had high hopes for this series, but it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment… I just wasn’t expecting the whole supernatural-demon-serial killer angle.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I have said it probably a million times before already, but this time I’m really going to read And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini next. This title has been on my TBR pile longer than any other book and it’s about time I read it… Plus, it will help me finish two challenges. I also want to read On The Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta and I should read The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey since I have been starting way too many new series without reading sequels. The last one, The Valentine Circle by Reinaldo DelValle, is my newest TBR jar pick and looks like an interesting read as well. (Although I might try to read a few titles on my October/Halloween TBR first…)
I feel like I need to give The Night Circus another go… I dropped it a few years ago, but I feel like I might be in a better mindset for it now. Asylum looked intriguing; I think I might look it up for Halloween, too.

What part did you drop it on? The start of the book is pretty slow I admit, but I find the Night Circus really hooks you in when you are around half away. It is one of my favourite stand alone books, you should definitely give it another try!

I honestly have no idea, as this was back in 2012, but I think I was around a third of the way in. I thought the language was really beautiful, but after a while that wasn’t sustaining me when nothing seemed to be really happening.

So far I’m really enjoying The Night Circus; if you feel you might enjoy it better this time I would say give it a try! Asylum is definitely a great Halloween read and the creepy photos are a huge bonus.

Right, that’s me never bothering with The Kill Order, then! 😉
Also your reaction to I Am Not a Serial Killer means I can definitely prioritize the Jasper Dent series by Barry Lyga for my next serial killer read!
I’m glad you’re enjoying The Night Circus. Overall, I had a positive experience of it, although more because the descriptions were amazing.

I would say leaving The Kill Order for when you don’t have anything else to read… Which is never. 😉 I would definitely recommend the Jasper Dent series over the John Cleaver series! The main character is just that much more interesting and the story itself is WAY much better.
I’m really enjoying the descriptions as well so far, although the pace in The Night Circus is a bit slow… But somehow that isn’t bothering me that much.

I loved The Night Circus! It was such an intriguing story for me.
I pretty much felt the same as you about The Kill Order. For the most part, I liked the main trilogy, but the prequel didn’t really do much for me, tbh.

I’m really looking forward to continue reading The Night Circus later today… The descriptions are beautiful. And it’s interesting to know that even those who enjoyed the main series didn’t like the prequel either… Without connection to the main series, it’s just another weak dystopian story.

Same here; I’ve had my copy on my shelves for way too long now and it’s weird because I really enjoyed his other novels.

I have been taking too long to finally pick The Night Circus up as well, but so far it’s definitely satisfying. The pace is slow, but the descriptions are beautiful.

I didn’t love The Night Circus but I know it’s very popular. If you enjoy it you might like The Invisible Library which I just finished.

Thanks for the recommendation! I have that one on my wishlist and I will definitely keep it in mind the next time I buy new books. I guess the pace of The Night Circus is pretty slow, but I like the descriptions so far so it isn’t really bothering me.

I would love to hear your thoughts about the Night Circus after you have finished it. I for one adored it and not just for the deliciously perfect descriptions.
If you don’t mind, I would love to do WWW for my blog. This my first time of hearing of it 🙂

I loved The Infinite Sea. It answered a few of my questions. I just wish it had been longer. Let me know what you think about Jellico Road. It’s on my TBR.

It’s good to hear The Infinite Sea answers some questions, because I was a bit disappointed by the first book. Jellicoe Road has been on my list for a while and I’ve heard good things about it; hopefully it will end up to be good.

I wish The Kill Order had been better. Darn. I guess it can get worse haha. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

Haha definitely! The Kill Order is better than The Dead Cure, but it doesn’t add anything to the main series and as a stand alone it is just another very weak dystopian story. Happy reading!

I don’t really like scary stories so I’m not reading any Halloween-themed stories, but it’s great that so many people are. Sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate; good luck getting through everything!

I guess not every genre is for everyone… I like them as long as they are mostly psychological and not too gory, but I’m trying to read other genres in between as well.

I’m glad you’re enjoying The Night Circus! The pacing was kind of odd for me, but it was still a very good read. Asylum seems like a very creepy read! Looking forward to your full thoughts on it. ❤ Happy reading!

Yeah, I’m still not too far into The Night Circus because I got distracted by other reads, but the pacing is a bit slow so far. My Asylum review is scheduled for tomorrow… I’m not behind with my reviews; it’s a miracle haha! Happy reading! ❤
