I saw this TBR Book Tag over at Book Snacks last month and I thought it was a fun way to analyze how ridiculously out of control things are with my TBR pile. Let’s go see the damage, shall we?
- How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
Definitely both Goodreads and also my own TBR list of books I own and still need to read. Goodreads comes first though! Feel free to add me if you like by the way. 🙂
- Is your TBR mostly print or eBook?
Unfortunately I read mostly eBooks… I love physical copies, but they are too expensive here in Argentina and English versions are also quite hard to get. Let’s just say I’ve learned to love my kindle. 😉
- How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
I normally make a monthly TBR to have a general idea of what I want to read… ARCs normally have priority, but I mostly just read whatever I’m in the mood for. If I really don’t have a clue what to read next, I use my TBR jar… But mostly those TBR jar picks end up on the waiting list to be read later on haha.
- A book that’s been on your TBR list the longest?
That would be And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini, but I’m about to change that. I’m going to try and start reading it either today or tomorrow!
- A book you recently added to your TBR?
One of my most recent adds to my owned-but-not-read shelf at Goodreads is All The Truth That’s In Me by Julie Berry. It sure sounds like an interesting read!
- A book on your TBR strictly because of it’s beautiful cover?
I’ve heard The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury is actually not that good, but I sure love the beautiful cover!
- A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?
I got a physical copy of Ireland Awakening by Edward Rutherfurd at a hostel book exchange, but it’s quite a long read and I don’t think I will ever end up picking it up…
- An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?
If I have to pick just one I would go for Winter by Marissa Meyer. I can’t wait to find out how the series continues!
- A book on your TBR that everyone has read but you?
I’ve seen Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson everywhere, but I’m not sure if this book will be for me… That’s probably why I haven’t picked it up so far.
- A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?
A lot of people have been recommending Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli to me ever since it came out earlier this year; I really need to get a copy soon!
- A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
I have a lot of books I really want to read ASAP, but I guess I’m really looking forward to finally start Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.
- How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?
I just checked, and I have no less than 238 books on my owned-but-not-read shelf and a total of 942! titles on my to-read shelf. Oops! I really have to learn how to control myself haha.

I’ve seen quite a few people using the book jar idea. I tried it once – spent hours carefully making coloured strips to represent different categories and then adding all the names. First time i used the jar i pulled out a title i really wasn’t in the mood for so back it went. It took me three attempts to pull out a title of interest. Which i realised isn’t quite the purpose of the jar so I abandoned it.

I had a hard time reading the books I picked at first as well, but now I’ve changed the ‘rules’ I always read them. I let myself pull out two papers and pick the one I like best; if I don’t want to read it immediately I keep it on hold until I read it. Only then I pick my next TBR jar read… And normally I read the titles within the month.

I redid my entire goodreads account and righ tnow my TBR pile only as like 10-15 books! Of course, there are tons and tons of books I want to read, but I keep thsoe selective few on my feed so I am more motivated to read it. It’s easier to tackle a smaller pile than a large one! I too once tried the jar method….I would end up looking through papers to fidn book I wanted to read!

I wish I could do that… But since I own over 200 titles I still need to read (mostly e-copies), it won’t make much sense to delete them all. I might do a wishlist cleanup though!

Yeah. I have two separarte boards for tbr copies I already own, and the copies I want to own.

I started an “I can get this at the library” shelf on GR and every time I add something to the To Read pile, I check if my local library has it as well. I remember when I first got GR, my aim was to not let the TBR shelf get over 50 books, but now it’s somewhere like 115.

The library shelf is a great idea! And 115 titles is still not too bad; I wish my own would have ‘only’ that many books on it. 😉

Haha, yes, I do look at some people’s to-read shelves and just think, “Oh, wow, that’s a lot!”

I think the cover to The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury is gorgeous also! I read the preview that you can download for free on Amazon, and it didn’t pull me in at all.
And I have 242 books waiting in my Kindle to be read. It’s nice knowing I’m not the only one with a ton to read on my Kindle also. =D

I haven’t even tried to read The Sin Eater’s Daughter so far, but at least the cover is perfect to stare at. 😉 And it’s good to hear my kindle isn’t the only one to suffer under the amount of unread books. 😀 I stay to stay away from Amazon freebies for now, but sometimes it’s just hard to resist…

Me too, but sometimes it’s impossible to resist! I also made the mistake of adding all the books I want to read to a wish list on Amazon and they have this drop down feature to only show the books with price discounts. It is horrible because then I see books I want to read for $0.99 and buy it. I need to stop checking that list ha!

Haha those lists are dangerous! I also try to avoid BookBub since they always show so many interesting books with mayor discounts…
