- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’m still not that far into Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, but I plan to change that today. Hopefully I will like it as much as everyone that has recommended this novel to me! I’m also still decided whether to DNF Eve by Iris Johansen or not. I have put it on hold for now, but the combination of a misleading blurb (it was supposed to be the first in a trilogy, but ended up being book number twelve in a series, so a lot of background is missing) and sexual attraction/romance scenes that make me cringe really make me not want to continue reading it.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* The first book I finished was Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch, a book I ended up enjoying despite my initial reservations about the love triangle. I loved the worldbuilding, plot and action and will be picking up the sequel soon.
* I then picked up Never Never Part Three by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher to finally find out how the story ends, and I ended up being VERY disappointed with how they decided to conclude the story.
* I was actually going to DNF the last read, Death Of Secrets by Bowen Greenwood and in a way I wish I did, because it really was a bad read. Lousy characters, chaotic plot and I didn’t like the prose either… I just couldn’t concentrate on the story even though the general idea of the story does have potential.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
As soon as I finish Me Before You, I will pick up All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I was actually planning on picking it up during the weekend but I didn’t have a lot of time to read… I also want to make a start with Outlander by Diana Gabaldon so I can finally begin with this series I have been wanting to read for ages. And I want to give Gillian Flynn another go and read her other novel Sharp Objects as well. My latest TBR jar pick is still Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider.
Me Before You sounds really good. I’ll probably read that sometime soon. Glad to hear you liked Snow Like Ashes. 🙂 That’s on my TBR list too. Sorry about the other disappointing reads. Last year that happened to me a lot.

Snow Like Ashes has a very interesting worldbuilding and the focus is more on the action than the romance; for me a definite bonus. Me Before You is interesting so far as well. I have been lucky lately with a lot of gread reads, so one or two bad ones are not too terrible… As long as it doesn’t become a habit. 😉

Good worldbuilding and action over romance are definitely a plus! That’s good. Yeah, as long as there’s more good ones than bad. 🙂

I liked Me Before You but didn’t love it as much as everyone else. I thought it was really good, but not the best thing I’ve ever read. That said, the trailer for the movie looks like they’ve done a good job.
All The Light We Cannot see has been on my TBR for ages. I’ve still only seen good things, so I hope you enjoy it.
I really want to read the Outlander series, but the books are SO long. And once I start a series, you know what I’m like, I have to power through it as quickly as I can. If I start I doubt I’ll read anything else for a couple of months!! 🙂

I didn’t like The One Plus One as much as a lot of people either, so it might be because of the genre… It’s still too early to tell if I like Me Before You though; hopefully I will end up enjoying it.
And I know what you mean with starting a series of long books! The same thing happened with A Song Of Ice And Fire and those books take aaaages to finish… I made myself a promise to just read Outlander first and see how it goes; since I don’t have a copy of the sequel yet, it’s a bit easier to resist a series binge. 😉

I loved Me Before You and had All The Light We Cannot See was on my TBT for an age and it was well worth a read although it is a slow start

I need to read Me Before You before the movie is released. Everyone keeps talking about it but I try not to set my expectations too high to avert being disappointed.

I started Me Before You for the same reason… Everybody seems to be reading it or talking about the movie so spoilers are becoming hard to avoid.

Shame that you read a few disappointing reads this week and were considering DNF too. Always feels like such a waste of our time when that happens.
I hope you enjoy Me Before You; I loved it. The copy I have has a pink fluffy cover but I didn’t think that all the subject matter was all pink and fluffy (hopefully that makes sense).

Disappointing reads are always a shame and in a way they do feel like a waste of time… But it does make the good ones seem even better. Good to hear you enjoyed Me Before You! I saw your cover on goodreads as well, but it doesn’t really seem to fit with what I’ve read of the story so far.

I’m sorry you were disappointed by Never Never. I have heard that from several readers. I think it’s turned into a love it or hate it book for people!
I tried Me Before You a few years ago and couldn’t get into it. I just redownloaded it to my Kindle to try again. I feel like I’m missing out on something great, since everyone loves the book!

The switch from mystery to sappy romance story was just too big for me… Like you said, the completed Never Never story is now definitely a love it or hate it story.
And I’ve heard other people who haven’t been convinced by Me Before You, so you’re not the only one. It’s still too early to tell what to think of it myself though.

I think Snow Like Ashes is one of the few books where I don’t mind the love triangle that much. I usually loathe those tropes. Here’s my post. 🙂

Same here; I normally hate love triangles and I was a bit worried when it first showed up in Snow Like Ashes, but fortunately the focus lays more on the war between Winter and Spring. Such a relief!

I have Snow Like Ashes on my TBR. It sounds like such a good read. I also have the Never Never books, but haven’t gotten around to reading them. It sucks you didn’t like how it ended. Can’t wait to see what you think about Extraordinary Means. It’s been on my TBR and bookshelf since release day and I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet!

I loved the worldbuilding in Snow Like Ashes and even though it has a love triangle, it didn’t bother me that much. Never Never is one of those cases of either hating or loving it… The first two parts focus on the mystery part, so the conclusion can be a bit misleading. I’m hoping to start Extraordinary Means soon! I’ve had a copy for a long time as well…
