- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I started All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr a few days ago and so far I’m in love with the prose. It’s so beautifully written! It’s been a while since I last read a WWII themed story as well, so I’m really enjoying this novel. I’ve also started Every Day by David Levithan, although it’s still too early to tell if I like it or not.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* The first book I finished was Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider, my last TBR jar pick. I literally flew through the pages and I really loved the story and its characters.
* I then read Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, which turned out to be a lot better than both Gone Girl and Dark Places. Sick, twisted, disturbing, but very well done.
* The last book I finished since last week is Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, and it sure took me a long time to do just that. I know everybody seems to love this read, but unfortunately I wasn’t blown away by it. I didn’t hate it either, but I just expected more of it… More about my problems in the full review.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I really want to pick up The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton soon; both because I have been looking forward to it for quite some time now and I need it for a challenge as well. I might read Mr. Kiss And Tell by Rob Thomas first though since I’m in the mood for a mystery read and I loved the first book. I also finally want to stick to my promise and start with Outlander by Diana Gabaldon as soon as I finish All The Light We Cannot See… And The Liar’s Chair by Rebecca Whitney is my new TBR jar pick.
I’ve been trying to get a copy of Every Day, but none of my libraries have it… I am looking forward to reading your review about Me Before You. I think my problem with acclaimed books like this one is that everyone seems to love it so much that it sets my expectations too high and I end up a little disappointed because it often doesn’t live up to its reputation.

Every Day is really good so far! Hopefully your libraries will be able to get a copy soon… And I think that part of my disappointment with Me Before You was just that; I had quite high expectations and the book just wasn’t as good as I thought it would be.

I wasn’t blown away by Me Before You either. I think it was because I’d heard so much about how it was the most amazing book ever and life-changing etc. etc. Then I read it and thought, “OK, it’s good, but just good.” I look forward to seeing your review 🙂

Good to hear I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t blown away by Me Before You! It wasn’t a bad read, but I did have some problems with it… Especially the Lou’s ignorance and behavior in general. (And some of the other characters as well.)

All the books in your post sound fab! I bought Extraordinary Means recently so am keen to read it soon, it sounds good. I really want to read All the Light We Cannot See soon too, I’ve only heard great things about it. I hope you enjoy all your books, have a great reading week. 🙂

Extraordinary Means is so good and even funny at points even though it’s about teenagers with TB… I hope you will enjoy it as well. All The Light We Cannot See is really good so far as well. Happy reading! 🙂

I’m one of the few it seems who didn’t get on with Anthony Doerr, not sure why I didn’t like it. The Miniaturst in the other hand was fabulous

Some books just are not for everyone… I’m glad you enjoyed The Miniaturist though; I have been looking forward to that read for ages.

The Miniaturist is on my TBR list, too; I just haven’t prioritized reading it yet. So I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on it if you decide to read it. 😉 And I’m really glad you’re loving All The Light We Cannot See!

I think I’m going to start The Miniaturist as soon as I finish All The Light We Cannot See… I’m really looking forward to finally pick it up since it sounds like such a great story.

I love Every Day but I haven’t read the sequel yet and I recently finished Me Before You too. It’s devastating.

I’m really enjoying Every Day as well so far, so I might get the sequel at some point soon… I had some minor problems with Me Before You, but the ending is without doubt very sad.

I’ve heard that as well, but I might give it a go anyway.
And I had really high expectations of Me Before You after seeing so many people love it, so that might explain part of my disappointment… I thought it kind of gave the wrong impression that it’s easy just to give up if something bad happens to you. But more importantly, even though I can partially relate to Lou, I found her annoyingly ignorant at some points. Will has his moments, but Patrick I simply couldn’t stand… And it took me a long time to finish it as well.

I understand your point. His decision is unfair and selfish but on the other hand, I can understand his reasons. And you’re right with Patrick. It took me a week to finished the book. A bit slow in the beginning but I can’t put it down towards the end. 🙂

The Miniaturist is such a good read with lots of twists, I loved it, despite not thinking I would. I really hope you enjoy it.
Glad to hear Sharp Objects is a good read as I have this on my Kindle.

I’m glad you enjoyed The Miniaturist! I have been wanting to read it ever since it came out, so I’m glad I’m finally able to pick it up soon. Sharp Objects is definitely Gillian Flynn’s best work out of the three; dark and twisted but really good! 🙂

I’ll be anxious to see what you think of Every Day. David Levithan has a very interesting style. Sorry to hear Me Before You wasn’t as great as expected. Glad you liked Extraordinary Means. I’ve seen it around, but still not sure if I want to read it.

Every Day is good so far and I like the ‘hidden’ messages about equality. I’m about halfway done so I’m keeping my fingers crossed it stays this good. It sure is a fast read though! Extraordinary Means is without doubt an interesting read and not as sad as some other books about sick teenagers… There are some sad moments of course, but Robyn Schneider managed to balance emotions quite well.

Every Day is really good so far! Definitely better than I was expecting. It turned out to be a fast read, so I’m going to finish it first and continue with All The Light We Cannot See afterwards.
