I finally picked up my latest TBR jar pick The Liar’s Chair by Rebecca Whitney, but unfortunately I can’t exactly say I’m enjoying it. So far the story is pretty bad, especially the prose. I don’t like the voice or the main character the author uses to tell the story. I’m keeping my fingers crossed things will improve, but to be honest I seriously doubt it. Such a shame!

Oh my goodness! Well THIS is the cure against all those sugary love stories, isn’t it? I love the title – what a shame you don’t like it all that much. Whereas I’m LOVING mine – thank you for swinging by earlier:)

This is without doubt not a sappy love story… The idea behind The Liar’s Chair is interesting, but unfortunately the prose and character description doesn’t live up to expectations. I’m glad you are enjoying your read though!

There’s nothing worse than an unlikeable main character as, if you’re anything like me, you really don’t care what happens to them. Hope it improves 🙂

I can totally agree with that… The main character is pretty messed up, but the worst part is that the description and prose are bad as well. Such a shame because the plot sounded interesting!

There seems to be an increasing trend at the moment for unlikeable/unreliable main characters. I blame The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl (but then I blame them for most things:) )

Yes, I would definitely say the same. I actually don’t really mind unreliable characters as long as they are done well, but unfortunately I mostly tend to have similar reactions to those I had after Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train.

After a recent flirtation with fantasy (as both reader and writer), I’m going back to my first love – historical romance – and am reading ‘Ivanhoe’ by Sir Walter Scott:
“Whether from indecision or some other motive of hesitation, the champion of the day remained stationary for more than a minute, while the eyes of the silent audience were riveted upon his motions. You can never go wrong with a good historical novel, especially if you enjoy reading the genre. I really like the sound of your teaser.
