WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I finally picked up my last TBR jar pick The Liar’s Chair by Rebecca Whitney a few days ago, but I am not exactly enjoying it so far. The story is pretty bad and I don’t like the prose or the main character for that matter. The way the story is told feels really unnatural and forced… So I decided to put it on hold and continue my Red Queen marathon first. I finished the first book last night, so I’m about to dive into Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard as soon as I can find some free time.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
I ‘only’ finished three titles since last week week, with one of them being a quick reread… Why? We were invited to a wedding party last weekend! 😀 A lot of fun, but it did take away a lot of my reading time.
* The first title I finished was The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. It turned out to be a really interesting read and I loved the Amsterdam setting and its many descriptions! Not perfect, but without doubt recommendable.
* I then finished Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover; a book a really wanted to love, but unfortunately I didn’t. I really didn’t like the main characters or their actions and some of the prose really annoyed me… That doesn’t take away that I still think Colleen Hoover is a genius though.
* The last book is a reread I’m not going to review again, because I already wrote one last year: Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. Just as enjoyable the second time around and I’m glad I did the reread, because I had forgotten a lot of details that will help me enjoy the sequel a lot better.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I will probably pick up Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch as soon as I finish Glass Sword… I’m trying to read/finish as many series as possible this year, and since the third book is recently coming out in September I’m counting this one as well. I might read Random by Tom Leveen or The Bookshop Book by Jen Campbell first depending of which genre I’m in the mood for though… And I have a new TBR jar pick: Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I read the first book of the series last year and really enjoyed it, but somehow I never continued the series until now. I guess my renewed TBR jar thought it was about time. 😉
I finally have a copy of Glass Sword so hope to be up to date with the series soon!
Love the sound of The Bookshop Book. Any book about books is a big draw 🙂

I’m looking forward to continue reading Glass Sword today… It had been so long since Red Queen that I had forgotten about a lot of details. I love books about books as well! Hopefully The Bookshop Book will turn out to be good. 🙂

To be honest, I didn’t like The Liar’s Chair either. Didn’t like the main character so really couldn’t care less what happened to her.
I did really like The Miniaturist though. It did feel like it was trying to be too many things but a very good debut nonetheless.

Good to hear I’m not the only one! She just feels so unnatural and I don’t like the prose either… It’s going to take me a while to find motivation to finish it. 😉
I agree with what you said about The Miniaturist! It wasn’t a perfect read, but I really enjoyed it anyway. I will be looking out to any future books written by Jessie Burton!

I really want to bump The Miniaturist up my TBR mountain now! 🙂 I hope you enjoy The BookShop Book, I bought that for a couple of people at Christmas and they loved it.

The Miniaturist is definitely worth reading if you like the genre! And it’s good to hear other people loved The Bookshop Book; I have been wanting to read it for quite some time now.

I’m really sorry you didn’t like Ugly Love. But I’m glad you still like Colleen. 🙂 I know the same books don’t work for everyone and I totally get that! I’m interested in the Bookshop Book. Anything with books in the name…and on the cover…definitely gets my attention! I hope you enjoy!

I could never hate Colleen Hoover after November 9, but I guess Ugly Love was too much ‘romance’ for me to enjoy it. I’m still going to read Maybe Someday soon though! I love books about books as well, and The Bookshop Book has been recommended to me a lot in the past; fingers crossed it’s good!

I have several of those books on my TBR and recently read Red Queen which was AWESOME! I recently made a TBR jar but have yet to use it. Do you like it?

I loved Red Queen last year and the reread was just as enjoyable! I’m keeping my fingers crossed the sequel is just as good.
I have been using my old TBR jar for over a year now and I like how it has given me the opportunity to read books I normally wouldn’t have picked up straight away. I didn’t like all TBR jar picks of course, but overall I like the results. My first TBR jar pick with the renewed jar looks interesting as well. I hope you’ll enjoy using yours! 🙂

I haven’t read any book from Colleen Hoover, but this one was recommended to me. I’m afraid to take the plunge and be disappointed.

I’ve only recently started reading her work as well, and so far my experiences have been mixed. I absolutely LOVED November 9 though! It seems like a lot of people felt that one was their favorite Colleen Hoover book, so it might be a good place to start. 😉

Think I felt the same about Ugly Love. Colleens writing is incredible but characters weren’t that likeable and it kind of missed the spark. Will be interested to see what you think of Beautiful Darkness. I wasn’t too keen on the first book so stopped there but I am curious about where it goes next.

Good to hear I wasn’t the only one! I won’t be giving up on Colleen Hoover, but I definitely didn’t like Ugly Love. I enjoyed Beautiful Creatures last year, but that was before I started to read more fantasy, so I’m curious to find out if I still like the series now I have more experience reading fantasy. Fingers crossed!

I think the setting was the best part of The Miniaturist, although I really enjoyed the story in general as well. Happy reading and thanks for hosting!

I guess Ugly Love was an either hate or love type of story… But I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for Maybe Someday. 🙂 Happy Wednesday!

I hope you enjoy Glass Sword – I’ve seen some reviews from people who really liked Red Queen who were disappointed by the sequel, so I hope it doesn’t got that way from you. I’m glad The Miniaturist was good, it sounds really interesting!
Thanks for visiting my WWW post!

Red Queen was really good even though it has some annoying elements (like a love triangle/cuadruple??). I know not everybody enjoyed it, but I did. 😉 It’s always great to find people with a similar taste in books and discover new titles! Although my poor TBR pile is already exploding as it is haha.

I also read Beautiful Creatures last year (well, listened). I started my TBR Jar recently, too. It was past time to start it up. Happy reading! I hope you get back into The Liar’s Chair.

I think I read Beautiful Creatures back in January 2015, so I don’t exactly remember all the details… Fingers crossed the sequel is interesting. I hope you’ll enjoy your TBR jar; I have been using one for the last year or so and I really like the results so far.

I have my first Collen Hoover book on my TBR, November 9, I hope its good. After reading your comment on Ugly Love, I am afraid to add it to my list 🙂 Bookshop Book is an interesting title. I have come to love books about books such as The Book Thief and The Shadow of the Wind. I hope this one is good too. Happy Reading.

I am not a romance fan, but I absolutely loved November 9. I’ve heard a lot of people saying it’s their favorite Colleen Hoover story, so I guess it’s a great place to start.
I love books about books as well; The Shadow Of The Wind has to be one of my all time favorites. Have you read Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore? I really enjoyed that one as well. Happy reading!

I wasn’t a huge fan of The Liar’s Chair either – shame as it has a good premise.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one! I really liked the sound of the blurb, but unfortunately the story itself is a disappointment so far.

The Miniaturist looks intriguing enough. I’m having The Shadow of the Wind vibes from it. Still a bit of a hang-over I guess. ahaha

The Shadow Of The Wind is one of my all time favorites, so I wouldn’t compare it with The Miniaturist myself… But it has a really interesting setting as well as the mystery around the cabinet.

Well, I suppose i just gotto check it out. Hahaha. I’ve been craving for something similar to The Shadow of the wind.

There are always the two sequels if you want something similar… I haven’t read them yet, but I’m sure they will be good.

I hope you love Glass Sword! Hopefully I can get all these ARCs read, so I can pick it up! Ahhh that’s sucks you didn’t love Ugly Love. I loved that book so much, haha. I liked Beautiful Darkness, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the main character. She really annoyed me. I never continued the series after I think the third book. The series just started to go downhill for me, so I stopped.

I really wanted to love Ugly Love; I was so disappointed I didn’t! And to be honest I don’t remember all the details about Beautiful Creatures haha, but I gave it a high rating last year and I’m keeping my fingers crossed I like the sequel. I have an e-copy of the whole series, but if I don’t like the second book I’m not sure if I will continue it soon. (And that won’t be the first series that is currently damned to be collecting dust forever; the same happened with for example The Mortal Instruments) 😉

Glad to see you liked The Miniaturist which was one of my favourite reads from last year. the setting was superb but the way the book was produced was superb, my copy had lovely blue edging and a ribbon book mark

Your copy sounds lovely! I read an e-copy myself, but I will definitely try to get a physical version for my collection.
