I saw this meme popping up the other day and I thought it would be a fun way to take a closer look at all those beautiful covers out there. Cover Characteristic is hosted at Sugar & Snark and has a weekly theme.
This week is all about covers with ARROWS. I normally always try to pick covers of books I’ve already read, but that brought up only two miserable covers (seriously, there must be hundreds of covers with swords out there, but arrows? not so much). So the covers below are a mix of books I’ve read and those on my TBR pile.
5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (read in November 2012; 5/5 stars): I normally like simple covers, but this one isn’t doing much for me. I like the black & white but the golden touch isn’t really my thing. I’m not really convinced by the background design either.
4. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers: I have to say the cover isn’t really inspiring. The model is mostly looking confused and seems to ‘pose’ with the crossbow rather than actually know what to do with it. I haven’t read this book yet, so that might be the point… Although I don’t think so. I like the color combination though.
3. Heir Of Fire by Sarah J. Maas (read in March 2015; 4,5/5 stars): I love the color combination of this cover and how fierce the model looks with her bow ready (which is a perfect description of the main character). It’s actually a really close call between the first three covers, but since I prefer covers without models on them I placed this one third. I still love it though.
2. Fire by Kristin Cashore: I really love the colors used in this cover as well and the fact that the bow and arrow are on the foreground. One little detail though: I think the title would have stood out better if it would have been in white or at least a bit brighter. Change that and leave out the face, and this cover would be a perfect 10.
Now on to my favorite cover of this week:
1. The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons: I literally added this title to my wishlist solely based on this gorgeous cover. This is basically everything what I look for in a cover: gorgeous color combination, easy to read words in pretty font, lovely design and illustrations… I could stare at this one all day.
What is your personal favorite out of these 5 covers? And have you read any of these books yourself? Feel free to comment!
I want to read The Glass Arrow solely based on the cover haha. It’s so pretty! I completely agree with you on the cover of Fire. The face was bugging me and it takes a while before you notice the title

I love the cover of The Glass Arrow! I could literally have that one as a big poster on my wall and stare at it all day haha. Fire could have been so much better by just leaving out the face and change the color of the title to white… Makes me wish I could photoshop it myself. 😉

Nice covers. I like Heir of Fire a lot and Grave Mercy too- I read that book a couple years ago and it was pretty good. Plus a crossbow lol. These are all nice though. The Glass Arrow is a pretty great cover. 🙂

I actually like the cover of the Grave Mercy sequel better even though it doesn’t have a crossbow… It just seems a whole lot more dynamic (like the Heir Of Fire cover)

Apparently everyone but me found The Glass Arrow! Lol I love that one though. It’s so pretty! And red and teal make such a surprisingly great color combo. And I also think she looks fierce in Heir of Fire!

It took me a long time to remember The Hunger Games as well… But then again, the arrow on the cover is really small. 😉
