WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I know, I know, I have been (shamelessly) posponing A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas for the last couple of weeks. It’s not that I don’t want to read it, but I haven’t been in the mood for fantasy and the book is quite big in the first place… I did read a few pages yesterday, but I will probably not finish it before the end of the month unless I’m in the mood for fantasy again. Meanwhile I started reading Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain, which is the second book in a thriller/serial killer series and hopefully just as good as the first book.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* I finally managed to finish The Munich Girl by Phyllis Edgerly Ring, a historical fiction read I ended up really enjoying. The story has a fast pace and switches between contemporary scenes and the notes of the main character’s mother. I particularly enjoyed reading the historical section and the fact that the story is about the role of women during WWII (something you don’t see often). The only thing I wasn’t convinced about were the contemporary romance scenes, but the rest of the story makes up for it.
* I picked up The Ex by Alafair Burke afterwards, which had been recommended to me by various bloggers. It turned out to be a really fast-paced and entertaining thriller, although some of the scenes/plot twists might be a bit too farfetched (think Gone Girl or The Girl On The Train vibe). The end came as a surprise though.
* After hearing repeatedly I just HAD to read this book, I decided to read Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum next. And I’m glad I did, because I really loved it! The only thing that was slightly annoying would be the love triangle (rectangle?!) and the idea itself might not be that original either, but I still loved this book anyway. Without doubt a great summer read!
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I still have an ARC pending: Cascadia by H.W. “Buzz” Bernard. It promises to be an adrenaline-filled suspense story about the after effects of extreme natural events (in this case a massive earthquake and tsunami), so I’m definitely looking forward to read it soon. I also want to read Out Of The Easy by Ruta Sepetys, since I really enjoyed her other novel Between Shades Of Gray. Same goes for Hitman Anders And The Meaning Of It All by Jonas Jonasson, although I’ve already learned it’s not as good as The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared… My newest TBR jar pick is still The Hired Girl by Laura Amy Schlitz.
I’ll be really interested to hear what you make of Hitman Anders. Perhaps it’s just me and actually it’s brilliant?!
Good luck with the rest of ACOMAF. It’s very good but SO long!

Haha since we normally seem to have similar thoughts, I don’t think so. 😉 I’ve actually started it today and so far I’m not really impressed…
I really need to continue with ACOMAF soon! I should have reread the first book though, because the fact that I don’t remember all the details has me struggling.

I really want to read Tell Me Three Things. I’m also interested in that Chelsea Cain series. I think I have the first book, but haven’t read it yet. I read One Kick when it came out and loved it.

Both Tell Me Three Things and the first Chelsea Cain book (Heartsick) are definitely recommended, for different reasons obviously. I’m hoping Sweetheart is as good as the first book… I love her writing style.

It’s definitely an entertaining mystery/thriller even though the plot and plot twists might not be that original.

I started Hitman Anders today and I would definitely not recommend picking that one up first… The Hundred-Year-Old Man is WAAAY better so far. That one I can definitely recommend though. 😉 Happy reading!

Great books this week! I’ve also been putting off ACOMAF because I want to save it for when I know I can dedicate some uninterrupted reading time. If you liked Heartsick, you’ll love Sweetheart and the rest of the series – I adore Chelsea Cain and her other series, Kick, also seems promising from reading the first book 🙂

I’m thinking about putting ACOMAF on hold and reread the first book before continuing it… I don’t remember all the details and it would be a shame not really enjoying it because of that.
And that’s great to hear about the Archie Sheridan series! I loved Heartsick, so I’m looking forward to read the rest of the series now. I really love her writing style.

It’s without doubt one of the best contemporary romance/realistic fiction novels I’ve read so far this year. 😀

I might have to give The Ex a look – I realised I think I like my thrillers a little far-fetched. When they wrap up realistically I tend to feel a bit disappointed. No idea why, since in any other genre, I demand a certain level of reality.

The plot of The Ex is not that special, but the plot twists definitely had a Gone Girl/Girl On The Train kind of feel. If you like far-fetched, you will probably enjoy it. I guess a too realistic ending can get boring… 😉

Good luck getting out of this mini-fantasy slump. It’s not a lot of fun, I know, especially when it’s a genre you love. Hopefully reading some of those other books on your list will help, though, especially since a lot of them sound interesting and none appear to be fantasy.
Thanks for visiting my WWW post and happy reading!

I’m trying to read a lot of different genres, hoping it will make me want to read fantasy again. I hope so, because I have a lot of fantasy books pending I want to read soon! 😉

I’ve decided to put all fantasy books on hold and just read other genres instead… Mystery/thriller and contemporary reads seem to work for now. 😉
