WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I have actually almost finished All The Missing Girls by Megan Miranda already and will do so after finishing this post, but technically I’m still currently reading this… This book is without doubt one of the best mystery/thriller books I’ve read so far this year and a must-read for fans of the genre! I’m also in the middle of Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate, which I picked up on a whim and I’m enjoying so far despite a few flaws. I haven’t made much progress with Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain due to the Netgalley books, but I’m continuing it as soon as I finish the other two current reads! And I’ve decided to put all fantasy reads on hold until I’m in the mood for the genre again…
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* I already knew Hitman Anders And The Meaning Of It All probably wasn’t going to be as good as Jonas Jonasson‘s other book The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared, but that doesn’t take away the fact that I was REALLY disappointed by this read. It was boring, had flat characters, wasn’t funny, it took me ages to finish and I actually thought of DNFing it at one point. More details in the review that will be published later today.
* I also read We Awaken by Calista Lynne, which unfortunately turned out to be another disappointing read. I loved the cover, the blurb and the fact that it talks about asexuality, but the rest of the book just didn’t convince me. It was a fast read, but that didn’t make up for the flaws. More in my review…
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
As soon as I finish my current reads, I will pick up my oldest ARC: Cascadia by H.W. “Buzz” Bernard. It promises to be an adrenaline-filled suspense story about the after effects of extreme natural events (in this case a massive earthquake and tsunami), so I’m definitely looking forward to it. I also still want to read Out Of The Easy by Ruta Sepetys… And the Netgalley ARC Last To Die by Arlene Hunt is also on my list. My newest TBR jar pick is still The Hired Girl by Laura Amy Schlitz…
Yeah, it’s a shame about Hitman Anders, isn’t it? By the time he got to the middle section with the church stuff, I started thinking, “Oh, please. Please tell me this story is going to actually go somewhere.” But no. Just round in circles. *sigh*
I’m glad to heat that All The Missing Girls is very good and perhaps making up for the disappointment? 🙂

Yes, exactly! I actually only finished it hoping something interesting would be happening later on… But it ended up being mostly a big disappointment. I do want to reread The Hundred-Year-Old Man now to see if I still enjoy it (I’m almost beginning to doubt my judgement haha).
All The Missing Girls is definitely making up for it though! Without doubt the best book I’ve read in June (although Tell Me Three Things comes a close second.) And somehow great books seem even better after a few disappointing reads. 😉

I love the sound of All The Missing GIrls, it sounds right up my alley. Looking forward to your review of that one. I was sorry to hear about We Awaken. I had been mildly intrigued because I also saw it on Netgalley, but I’m glad I steered clear now.

All The Missing Girls is SO good so far! I love that it tells the story backwards; really original and not boring at all since the author keeps adding new plot twists with each chapter. And I wouldn’t really recommend We Awaken unless you don’t mind a lot of romantic babbling and awkward romance… The idea behind the story is great though.

I am glad that you enjoyed All the Missing Girls. I have a different opinion on that one. Just scheduled my review.I ended up giving the book 3 stars. The idea behind it is interesting though. Last to Die looks really good. I am tempted to go and get that one if its not yet archived 🙂 Enjoy your current and next reads. Happy reading ❤

I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy All The Missing Girls as much as I’m doing! I can understand why the backwards timeline isn’t for everyone though. If you want to request Last To Die, there still is time, because it will be archived July 8th. 😉 Happy reading and enjoy your books! 🙂

Yay for Last To Die! Already read and reviewed that one and I quite liked it, even though it’s not a book that holds any surprises. It takes skill to still be drawn in and keep my attention. I liked Sweetheart too but then I like this whole series (one of them maybe a liiiitle bit less because there is no Gretchen in it).

I’m glad you enjoyed Last To Die! I’m really looking forward to read that one soon. I kind of want to read Sweetheart first since I loved the first book, but I also want to finish Last To Die before the deadline… Decisions, decisions. 😉 And I can definitely understand why a book without Gretchen wouldn’t be the same… She is one of the reasons the first book was so good.

Sorry about Hitman not being a good book. Hopefully, All the Missing Girls will turn out better and I can’t wait to see your review on that!

I’m glad you’re enjoying All The Missing Girls and Seven Ways We Lie. I’ve heard pretty good things about Seven Ways We Lie, but hadn’t heard of All The Missing Girls before. I’ll have to look into it. Sorry to hear We Awaken was disappointing! I’ve been really looking forward to it since I haven’t read a book with asexual characters before.
Thanks for dropping by my WWW Wednesday earlier!

We Awaken unfortunately wasn’t that good, but I hope you’ll enjoy it better than I did! Both All The Missing Girls and Seven Ways We Lie are definitely worth reading so far.

I’ve only seen one other review of We Awaken and it was pretty positive. Hopefully I’ll end up liking it. 🙂

I feel like I keep seeing Seven Ways We Lie everywhere. I want to read that one solely on the title. I love books about with liars/about lying. Happy Wednesday and thanks for stopping by!

Seven Ways We Lie is without doubt entertaining so far! Not the best book I’ve read, but good enough to be worth reading (especially since you love books with liars) Happy reading!

I have seen All The Missing Girls on several posts, and now that you said it was one of the best thrillers of the week, I just have to have it!
If I remember right, Claire was a little disappointed in Hitman. I still have to read The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared. Last To Die is on my radar, I want to hear your thoughts about it 🙂
Happy reading!

All The Missing Girls was so good! Definitely one of the best mystery/thrillers I’ve read this year. I’m trying to write a review right now without it sounding too much like fangirling, but it’s not easy haha.
And yes, Claire didn’t really like Hitman Anders either… If you want to try a Jonas Jonasson book, definitely pick up The Hundred-Year-Old Man first. 😉 And Last To Die sounds really good! I’m going to start it as soon as I manage to finish my review on All The Missing Girls.
Happy reading!

I’m glad you’re enjoying Seven Ways We Lie. I didn’t like it, sadly. I’m still so disappointed that We Awaken wasn’t as good as I hoped.

I’m liking Seven Ways We Lie, although I don’t LOVE it… I still have quite a few pages to go, but I will probably end up giving it a 3.5 star rating if things don’t change. And I know the feeling about We Awaken! I had really high hopes for that one, such a shame…

What a bummer week! I had heard a few people make comments that Hitman Anders And The Meaning Of It All was a flat read for them, so I was looking forward to what you were going to say. Glad you are enjoying Seven Ways We Lie and All the Missing Girls – I’ve heard good things about that one!

I’m still looking forward to The Girl Who Saved The King Of Sweden, but Hitman Anders was definitely a disappointment. All The Missing Girls more than made up for it though! 🙂
