WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’m currently reading Wanderlost by Jen Malone, which is turning out to be a quick and entertaining road trip story from what I can see so far. I’ve also started reading The Neverland Wars by Audrey Greathouse because I was in the mood for a Peter Pan retelling, but I can’t say I’m enjoying it. The tone and prose don’t seem to fit the theme at all and I’m struggling to continue this one… Same goes for The Stepmother by Claire Seeber: I started reading it last week, but I couldn’t get into the story and decided to keep it temporarily on hold and read a few other titles instead.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* The first book I finished since last week is My Girl by Jack Jordan, which is probably one of the most twisted and disturbing thrillers I’ve read so far this year. If you are into the genre, definitely make sure to check out this book!
* I then finished Out Of The Easy by Ruta Sepetys, which is without doubt my new favorite of this author. The setting, prose and character development are excellent and I really felt like I was right there in the 1950s along with the characters.
* I also read The Night Stalker by Robert Bryndza, which by no means suffers from the ‘weak-second-book’ syndrome. It’s fast-paced, well written and has an intriguing plot and plot twists. It’s without doubt a very entertaining read!
* I then read The Straw King by Danielle Paige. This novella was surprisingly good compared to the last few previous stories, but I still wasn’t overwhelmed by it.
* I’ve also been able to finish Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon, a title that was on my 2015 most-antipated-releases list. I enjoyed reading it and I admit it was a ‘cute’ read, but I did have some problems with the credibility of the plot. I mean, if the main character is really that sick, doing what she did is incredibly stupid.
* The last book I managed to finish is The Sister by Louise Jensen, which I ended up really enjoying. It’s dark, messed with your mind and has many plot twists… The story jumps back and forth between the past and present and there are quite a few unreliable characters, but it only added to the whole mystery around Grace and Charlie.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
Depending on what genre I’m in the mood for, I will read When We Collided by Emery Lord. Although I really want to read The Ice Twins by S.K. Tremayne as well, both because I’ve heard great things about it and because I want to The Fire Child by the same author. If I want something different, The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey is also high on my list… And my latest TBR jar pick is still The Hired Girl by Laura Amy Schlitz. (Which I should read soon since it’s been too long since I last read a TBR jar book.)
Great selection of books. Happy reading! 🙂

I have several of these on my bookshelf! I’m really looking forward to reading My Girl following your comments above. I’ve also read The Girl With All The Gifts, which was really out of my comfort zone but I thoroughly enjoyed it! I’m really glad you enjoyed The Sister. I’ve been following Louise’s blog for a while and I was delighted when she announced her publishing deal. She’s been getting such wonderful reviews – good on her!! 🙂 I will get round to it at some point but, you know me, one thriller a month at most or I go past my tolerance levels.

The Sister is definitely a great read to keep in mind! I can understand why you would wait though; I have been reading way too many thrillers myself in the last few weeks and kind of need a break. Luckily it’s cold down here so it does help set the mood for thriller reads. 😉

I read When We Collided in June and loved it! It’s a perfect read for the summer, although it does deal with some heavier topics like family issues, mental health, etc. But it’s really well written and I couldn’t help but become invested in Vivi and Jonah’s stories. Happy reading!

I’m definitely adding My Girl and The Sister to my TBR. They’re pretty different from what I normally read so they’ll be refreshing reads. I really should read more thrillers anyway because I almost always enjoy them when I do.
Thanks for stopping by my WWW Wednesday earlier. 🙂

I hope The Neverland Wars will pick up for me later on… I’m only about 30% into the story, so fingers crossed. 🙂

I still need to read Out of the Easy by Septys. I’ve only read her Salt to the Sea and loved it!
Here is my post for the week. 🙂

Phew, that’s a big list. Sorry to hear you’re not enjoying the Neverland Wars. That’s exactly the type of book I go for. Love Peter Pan retellings.
I’d highly recommend the Girl with All the Gifts. Read it and loved it despite being a bit off horror at the moment.

I was really looking forward to The Neverland Wars, but it just isn’t doing it for me. It might be because I read an extended excerpt of Unhooked and loved it, and was left wanting for a Peter Pan retelling… I really have go get a copy of that one.
And I actually decided to start The Girl With All The Gifts today and put The Neverland Wars on hold. Best decision ever, because I’m loving it so far! Which is a big thing, because I normally don’t really like zombie stories. 😀

It’s slightly better than in the beginning, but I’m still not feeling it. I’ve started The Girl With All The Gifts instead hoping a break will make me enjoy it better afterwards.

When I first saw The Neverland Wars I really wanted to read it, but I don’t think I’ve seen one really great review for it yet.

I’ve seen a few at Goodreads, but now you’ve mentioned it I don’t think I have seen a really positive review from fellow bloggers either. I’m still hoping things will pick up later on, but since one of my issues is with the tone of the prose I’m not so sure.

Sorry to hear you’re not enjoying the Neverland Wars. I heard it about not long ago but I was a bit wary – I’ll wait and see you what your final thoughts are. I do love how many thrillers I discover thanks to your blog, though. 😉

I don’t think The Neverland Wars will get a very positive review if things don’t change drastically… And I’m glad my thriller overdose is somewhat helpful. 😉
