100TH WWW MEME CELEBRATION EDITION!!!
WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’m currently reading The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel and it is turning out to be an interesting read. I’m glad the reviews I’ve seen so far convinced me to get a copy of this book! I’ve also finally started my last TBR jar pick The Hired Girl by Laura Amy Schlitz, which is ok enough so far, although I do hope the plot will get a little more interesting in the future. I still have to finish The Neverland Wars by Audrey Greathouse as well… I actually thought about DNFing it because I am really struggling with it, but since I already made it this far I will just finish it.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* The first book I finished since last week is Wanderlost by Jen Malone, which turned out to be a quick, fluffy and entertaining summer read. Not perfect and in a way a bit cliche, but I loved the road trip details!
* I then finished The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey; probably one of the first stories with zombies I absolutely loved. I still can’t believe it took me this long to pick up this book! Well written, excellent worldbuilding and Melanie is probably one of my newest favorite characters.
* I also finally continued The Stepmother by Claire Seeber, but unfortunately I wasn’t completely convinced by it. I liked the fact that it reversed the roles of the typical ‘evil stepmother’ plot, but the pace is quite slow and I REALLY disliked the main character.
* The last book I finished is The Ice Twins by S.K. Tremayne, which turned out to be a well written, spooky read with great descriptions. The plot was a bit uneventful, but it is without doubt a great read.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
Depending on what genre I’m in the mood for, I will read When We Collided by Emery Lord. I might read The Fire Child by S.K. Tremayne first though; especially since I really enjoyed her other novel. Talon by Julie Kagawa is most likely my next fantasy read; I have been wanting to read another dragon story for too long now! Secret Letters by Leah Scheier is another Sherlock Holmes retelling and my newest TBR jar pick.
I recently picked up The Girl With All The Gifts. I’m looking forward to giving it a go, as I hear there’s a movie coming out and I want read the book first.

It was one of the reasons I finally picked up my copy as well… The descriptions and worldbuilding in the book are excellent, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed the movie will be good as well. The story sure has potential.

So happy you’re enjoying The Summer That Melted Everything! I’m finishing my review, and I just can’t find the words. The writing blew my mind. I love how it got me thinking about so many things. And cry. That never happens! The Stepmother did not convince me either. I’m struggling to review it. I feel it let me down so hard on the last 20%. Love for The Ice Twins, yay! I loved how the tension did not let up even though there was not much happening at times.
Happy reading!

I totally agree: the writing in The Summer That Melted Everything is so good! I wasn’t sure about the religious aspect as first, but so far it’s not really bothering me. I’m about 35% into the story right now and it’s definitely intriguing.
The end of The Stepmother kind of felt like a huge information dump where all kinds of random and important facts were just thrown in… Such a shame because the premise sounded great.
And I really enjoyed The Ice Twins! The plot is a bit basic, but S.K. Tremayne is without doubt great at tension building. I didn’t see the ending coming at all and I loved the descriptions. 😀

So many people are reading The Summer that Melted Everything right now! It does seem quite interesting. I’ll look forward to your thoughts on that one. It’s too bad about the Neverland Wars. 😦

I guess it’s because The Summer That Melted Everything is about to be published next week… It’s a great read so far though. I personally wasn’t a fan at all of The Neverland Wars (I finally finished it today), but I know other people seem to have enjoyed it a lot better.

The Girl with All the Gifts is high on my TBR, and higher now that I know you enjoyed it 🙂 It doesn’t sound too scary, so I think I’ll be ok!
I’m always interested in a Sherlock Holmes story, so I’ll look out for your thoughts on Secret Letters.

The Girl With All The Gifts has zombies and some graphic scenes, but I personally didn’t think it was too scary. The descriptions and worldbuilding are excellent and I loved the main character! I hope you will enjoy it as well. 🙂
I like Sherlock Holmes retellings as well, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed Secret Letters will be good.

I really love her writing style as well! I wasn’t so sure about the religious theme at first, but she managed to convince me with her prose. 😀

I got The Fire Child today though I am yet to read the Ice Twins. I hope to enjoy it either way, hopefully its not a sequel. Glad to see that I was not the only who didn’t quite connect with The Stepmother. After reading quite so many wonderful 5 star reviews, I started wondering if I had missed something lol.The book just wasn’t for me either. Happy reading.

As far as I know it’s not a sequel, but The Ice Twins is definitely worth the read as well. I will be reading The Fire Child as soon as I finish The Summer That Melted Everything… The Stepmother just didn’t do it for me, so I’m glad I wasn’t the only one. 😉 Happy reading!

Yay for the Girl with All the Gifts! So good. Sorry you’re struggling with The Neverland Wars. It’s a slower read for sure. I hope you love When We Collided as much as I did!

The Girl With All The Gifts was definitely one of my favorite fantasy reads this year! I’m glad I finally decided to read it. And unfortunately The Neverland Wars just wasn’t for me, although the part set in Neverland was quite interesting. I can’t wait to read When We Collided though!

I can’t wait to see your final thoughts on The Hired Girl. I love historical fiction and I’m always looking for more to read.
The Ice Twins sounds really interesting! I’ll be adding that to my TBR for sure. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my WWW Wednesday earlier!

The Hired Girl is not that interesting so far, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed things will get more interesting now the main character finally decided to ‘do something’. The Ice Twins is definitely worth reading though!

I also struggled to get through The Neverland Wars. I talked about it in my review (yesterday). There were too many “stories” told, and not enough action…or clear plot. It was kind of confusing what was going on. I don’t know what that means for the next one in the series (and now I wonder what it will be called).

So it IS actually going to be a series?! That definitely makes sense because it kind of ended right when things were becoming more interesting. I totally agree with everything you said about The Neverland Wars. 🙂

Thanks! I like mixing up the genres, especially since so many ARCs have been mystery/thrillers lately…
