WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I started my previous TBR jar pick Secret Letters by Leah Scheier a few days ago, but I’m really struggling to get into the story. I’m not sure if it’s because of the prose or the main character, but I cannot seem to manage to convince me to continue it. Maybe after I finish my last pending Netgalley ARC: All Fall Down by Tom Bale? That one is turning out to be yet another brilliant thriller! I’ve also finally FINALLY picked up my copy of A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin. I’m hoping I will be able to make a dent into this monster during my 15 hours on a plane this Sunday…
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* The first book I finished since last WWW is The Summer I Became A Nerd by Leah Rae Miller. It was a fast read and I LOVED the comic/geeky references, but the many high school cliches and the fact that the main character was ashamed of liking comics and seemed to prefer being popular ruined the story slightly for me.
* I then gave in and read Harry Potter And The Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. It was quite an entertaining read and brought back a lot of nostalgic memories, but it wasn’t as good as the first seven books. The fact that it’s a script makes it less pleasant to read as well…
* The Girl From The Sea by Shalini Boland is yet another psychological thriller to add to my list of favorites. SO good! It’s well written and the fact that the main character has amnesia and therefore is an unreliable narrator is a refreshing twist. Recommended!
* The last book I finished is The Last Girl by Joe Hart, which unfortunately didn’t turn out to be as good as I thought it would be. It’s not a bad read and the synopsis sounds interesting, but I felt it was missing that little something that would turn it into something special. In fact, it all sounded all too similar to the typical dystopian story with a strong female character… I did really appreciate this story has almost no romance and NO love triangle. Definitely a miracle when it comes to the YA dystopian genre.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I can’t wait to finally start Red Rising by Pierce Brown! If I like the first book I will probably read both sequels as well… I also want to read Vicious by V.E. Schwab (and This Savage Song as well, but I have decided to read this one first). The Art Of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson is also high on my list. A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas is my newest TBR jar pick, which is really convenient since I wanted to read it soon anyway. I will probably reread ACOTAR first though…
It seems like you had a good reading week. The first three books that you read all sound interesting, I am glad that you enjoyed them. I hope that secret Letters will get better as you proceed. I am so jealous that you are on your last netgalley. I am trying to read the ones that are still pending on my TBR before requesting for new ones but I still have quite a number to get through. Enjoy your books this week. Happy reading.

Especially The Girl From The Sea was SO good! And it’s already not my last Netgalley ARC anymore haha; it’s impossible to resist adding new titles. 😉 I try to request not more than 3 or 4 titles at the time though… Happy reading!

I don’t think I’ve seen a negative review so far and it has been recommended so many times I’m almost ashamed I haven’t read it yet haha. Now I have time to read all three books together, I will definitely do just so. Thanks!

I plan to read the new HP book this month for my Hype or Like Friday group. I was afraid it wouldn’t be as good since it’s not written by J.K. Rowling. And Red Rising is AMAZING! I hope you love it! I can’t wait to see what you think. 🙂

The Cursed Child is definitely not as good as the first seven books, but still entertaining enough for nostalgic reasons. I hope you will enjoy it! And I can’t wait to finally read the Red Rising trilogy! I’m glad you loved it. 😀

OK I am awaiting your Dance of Dragons review

It will probably take me a while to actually finish it, but I’m definitely looking forward to finally read it. It’s been too long since the last book, and the TV series is starting to spoil the book version.

Yep sadly the TV has actually went past the books and the way things are going it looks like TV will finish the whole story before Books , which is sad since the books are so beautifully written and the world is so vast in the books that the TV series feels like a dwarf

I actually haven’t seen the last season yet because I want to read the fifth book first… I agree that the TV series doesn’t do justice to the complexity of the books, especially when it comes to certain subplots. I’m trying to see them as two completely separate stories, but every time the series changes something in the plot I complain anyway haha.

i won’t tell you anything but you might share my sense of disappointment after you see the latest season and learn of the fates of certain characters you would love in the 5th book

I have heard similar things from people who have read all five books and watched the TV series… In a way I’m not sure I want to watch it. 😉

easier said than done , the lure of knowing what happens after the events of fifth book is just too high

Very true! I will most likely end up giving in somewhere during the next couple of months.

Dang, you are a reading, machine! Because it’s a script, I haven’t been able to bring myself to read “the Cursed Child” yet (much to the shock of everyone who knows me becasue I adore Harry Potter). You know what I want? A novelization of the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” movie. Not just the text book. I want to read Newt Scamander’s story.

The Cursed Child is not bet, but I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed Rowling will rewrite it at one point and make the story really ‘hers’. And I would love to see a full Newt Scamander story as well!

I found the script format of Cursed Child a little frustrating as well. It was very different but I loved getting to know the next generation. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

I’m still hoping J.K. Rowling will rewrite it at some point… Because it was truly great to learn about the next generation. Happy reading and thanks for hosting!

Red Rising looks good too!

That’s such a shame! Strange that your library doesn’t have Vicious though since she is such a popular author.

It took me a long time to reach the fifth book as well because the books are HUGE! I guess in a way we’re lucky he takes so long in publishing each book. 😉 I’m looking forward to it though!

We have a lot in common with what you’ll read next, not that they are on my TBR list yet. But I like those kinds of books so I’ll be adding them.
“The Summer I Became a Nerd” is on my TBR so I’ll be picking it up soon. Great selection of books.
I also did the WWW. If u have the time u could take a look @ https://keeanareads.wordpress.com/2016/08/10/www-wednesday-10th-august-2016/

Three days late but hi! 🙂
Your review of The Girl From The Sea bumped the book up to the top of my TBR. Mu hubby brought back the hardcover of The Cursed Child, despite the fact I was not sure I wanted to read it. I ended up very excited about it and I have decided to read it this month while keeping in mind it won’t be as good as the series.
15 hours on a plane?? I almost died of boredom during my 12hour trip to Japan. Good luck!

The Girl From The Sea is SO good! I hope you will enjoy it as well. And going into The Cursed Child with low expectations will probably help a lot. 🙂 And I don’t even want to think about the hours I will spend on a plane haha. I have to change planes in Madrid about 12.5hs into the flight, but it is going to be a loooooong day. 😉

I surely hope so! I’ve just done my online check-in to at least have a window seat at both flights… 😉 Last time I was wedged in between two big and REALLY loud guys; not funny!
