WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’m almost finished with Ivy Feckett Is Looking For Love by Jay Spencer Green, which is about time since it’s been too long since I first started it. I also decided to read The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, because I have been seriously neglecting my classics this year and somehow I have never read the original Tom Sawyer story?! Or at least I don’t remember. I’ve also started The Best Friend by Shalini Boland, a very fast-paced and intriguing thriller so far.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* I finished reading The Bitter Side Of Sweet by Tara Sullivan first, which turned out to be a brilliant read. Even though it’s a fictional story, it’s based on actual facts and the descriptions are really well done. Two young brothers forced to work at a cacao farm under difficult conditions and without pay… It definitely gives you something to think about.
* I then finally finished Empire Of Storms by Sarah J. Maas, which has turned out to be a mayor disappointment. The story is overlong and most characters are basically horny teenagers that want to sleep with each other all the time. What’s with all the romance?!!!! I seriously hope book 6 will be better, and that cliffhanger ending made the wait for the next book even more painful. Sigh.
* The last book I read is Who We Were Before by Leah Mercer, a book I requested on a whim from Netgalley. I’m normally not really into drama, but the blurb sounded interesting enough and I’m glad I gave it a go. The ‘present/Paris’ chapters weren’t as strong as the ones set in the past, and maybe not as believable either. Still, it was interesting to learn more about how the two main characters met and how it all started to go wrong… Poor little kid.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I have two thriller ARCs up next: Dark Water by Robert Bryndza and Love You To Death by Caroline Mitchell. I can’t wait to start reading both; Bookouture is quickly turning into my favorite Netgalley publisher! I also still want to read The Coldest Girl In Coldtown by Holly Black to get into the Halloween mood. And since I have decided to not read ACOMAF until the third book is published (there is NO way Sarah J. Maas will have me pining over TWO unpublished sequels), I have a new TBR jar pick: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson. I was originally going to read Since You’ve Been Gone first, but the TBR jar has spoken…
Unexpected Everything is in my TBR for a long time now, I’ll try to make time for it.

I’ve heard great things about all her books; hopefully we will both find time soon to read it. 🙂

Your feelings about Empire of Storms one again confirm my suspicions that we are book twins. That’s exactly what I thought!! I can only help that the over-indulgent length of the thing gave Maas time to set everything up she needed to so that book 6 is epic and makes up for my disappointment 🙂 Then everything will be forgiven!
I enjoyed Tom Sawyer a lot more than Huck Finn. I think Tom’s voice is a lot cheekier and funnier.

Haha very true! I always check your reviews on hyped books before I decide to read it myself. 😉 I’m keeping my fingers crossed book 6 will be a huge improvement; I mean, it should involve the epic final battle right? It’s going to be a long wait…
And I can’t remember the details of the Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn stories, so I’m probably going to end up reading both.

I’m glad to see you enjoyed Who We Were Before, because I got that one as a Kindle First book with my Prime membership last month! The Best Friend has my attention!!

I hope you will enjoy Who We Were Before as well! And I managed to finish The Best Friend yesterday and it was brilliant. Definitely recommended. 😀

Think my views were pretty much the same on Empire of Storms. Apparently there’s a warning on the back of the book that it’s not suitable for younger readers and I don’t think it’s because of the violence 🙂
Also was it just me or was it really sweary. There was something about a certain immortal Fae Prince cursing so much and using so many current day terms that seemed wrong.

Ah that would definitely explain things… Still, all the explicit romance and swearing only distracted from the main story and was quite annoying. And I agree that seeing the Fae Prince swearing all the time is not exactly credible.

Ohhh, I’ve been wanting to read The Coldest Girl in ColdTown for awhile now! It sounds so interesting and I really enjoy Black’s stories. I hope you enjoy it!

I haven’t read any of her work yet, so it’s good to hear you like her stories. I hope you will find time for The Coldest Girl In Coldtown soon! 🙂

I like that you’re sneaking some classics into your regular reading. I feel like that’s something I should try doing more often…

I have been seriously neglecting my classics for most of this year, so I know what you mean. 😉

It seems many people believe that EOS is a disappointment. More reason for me to put off starting the series until closer to the final book’s release!
Hope the rests of your books prove to be superior reads! I haven’t read Tom Sawyer in a while but I remember loving it 🙂
Happy Reading!

That might just be the best idea, especially with the publish dates being so far apart… The wait for the next books can become painful. 😉 I’m really looking forward to continue Tom Sawyer soon. Happy reading

I hope you’re enjoying Tom Sawyer. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure I’ve read it either but I remember reading Huckleberry Finn in high school! Maybe seeing the films have made me think I’ve read both? Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

I can’t remember whether I’ve read either of the two either, that’s why I’ve decided to read both books just to be sure. Happy reading and thanks for hosting!

I read Tom Sawyer but never got around to reading Huckleberry Finn. Maybe I should do that someday, but I don’t recall particularly caring for Tom Sawyer. And I totally agree with you about Empire of Storms, but I feel the need to warn you: it looks, according to GoodReads at least, like the ACoTaR series is going to also have 6 books.
Happy reading!

I’ve heard Tom Sawyer is the better story of the two, so I’m still doubting whether to read both. And I’m also not sure whether to just put ACOTAR on hold until more books are published… With the publish dates being separated by a year, it’s really hard not to forget about at least part of the plot. Happy reading!
