WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I still haven’t finished The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, and that’s mostly because I’ve been wanting to finish a few ARCs first. I’m going to try and finish it before I continue with Faithful by Alice Hoffman though… I’m only a few pages into that one so far, but it sounds really promising.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* I first finished Ivy Feckett Is Looking For Love by Jay Spencer Green. I guess this is one of those books that just isn’t for me, because the other reviews are really positive. There was just too much explicit sex talk, romance and colorful language to my taste… I liked the general plot and the geocaching though.
* I then read The Best Friend by Shalini Boland, which turned out to be another brilliant psychological thriller. Fast-paced, many many plot twists and characters that might be unlikeable but work perfectly with the plot, suspense… This story has it all and more.
* I was finally able to read a Halloween themed book as well: The Coldest Girl In Coldtown by Holly Black. I was surprised to find out that I enjoyed this story that much, because I normally don’t like vampire stories. This one is an exception though; well written, not too many romance scenes and the right dose of creepy.
* I also finished Dark Water by Robert Bryndza, the third book in a new detective series that is without doubt entertaining. I would have liked to see less romance and I thought the spark of especially the second book was missing, but it was still a solid thriller read with quite a few plot twists and action scenes. I kind of already saw the ending coming though…
* Finally, I was able to read Trow-Truck Pluck by Annie M.G. Schmidt yesterday. The Dutch version (and the rest of her work for that matter) was one of my favorite childhood books and probably one of the first stories I read by myself… It was so good to revisit that world with this English translation that was provided by me by Netgalley and the publisher. It has the perfect bedtime stories to read to the little ones.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
Next up are two pending thriller ARCs: Worth Killing For by Ed James and The Good Sisters by Helen Phifer. The first is a sequel (review of the first book will be posted tomorrow) and the other sounds like a great Halloween read. I also want to read Bad Girls Don’t Die by Katie Alender for the same reason… And my newest TBR jar pick is still The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson.
Once again, I’m reminded that I haven’t even read The Girl in the Ice yet! I swear, at the rate he writes, Erika is going to have retired from the force and be solving mysteries in her old age like Miss Marple 🙂

I just got the 2nd book in the Bryndza series this week. I hope I can read it as a stand alone? It sounds really good.
You should sign up for the Dewey’s readathon this Saturday! As much reading as you do – you’d kill it!! 🙂

You’ll miss some of the background of the main characters, but the books are quite easy to read as a stand-alone as well. The second book is the best of the series so far; I hope you will enjoy it! And I actually thought about joining the read-a-thon at first, but unfortunately I won’t be having that much spare time on Saturday…

Oh wow! That’s a lot of books done this week! I see so many good things about Bryndza’s series. I really should get to reading them soon! I love a good mystery!
I’m also convinced to read Holly Black’s book! It sounds like a perfect read for October!
Happy Reading 🙂

So glad to hear that you enjoyed The Coldest Girl in Coldtown! Ever since I read The Darkest Part of the Forest, I’ve been wanting to try this book out. I think Black does a great job writing standalone fantasy books.

It was my first Holly Black book, but I’m definitely going to want to read more in the future. The Darkest Part Of The Forest is already on my list; I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Haven’t really found a good Halloween appropriate book but I like the sound of the Holly Black. Haven’t read any of her books yet but I keep hearing good things

I have a few on my TBR, but somehow I end up reading ARCs instead haha. The Coldest Girl In Coldtown was my first Holly Black but it’s definitely an entertaining read.

Congratulations on getting through so many books! I’ve been considering picking up The Coldest Girl in Coldtown because I liked Black’s The Darkest Part of the Forest, but since I didn’t love it, I’ve been putting it off. But you’re convincing me to give it a shot, especially this month (even with only a few weeks left)!

I haven’t tried The Darkest Part Of The Forest yet, but The Coldest Girl In Coldtown is definitely an entertaining read. I normally don’t like vampire stories, but this one was a pleasant surprise. (At least these vampires are actually dangerous and there are not too many romance scenes involved 😉 )

I’m definitely going to try and read a few more Halloween reads… The fact that the weather is pretty bad does help set the atmosphere. 😉 Happy reading and thanks for hosting!
