I know a lot of people love Morgan Matson‘s books, but I have always been hesitant to pick them up because of the huge hype around them. My TBR jar decided it was time to give them a shot, and ironically I ended up reading her most recent story The Unexpected Everything first. And I can definitely understand why so many people love her books, because the writing is without doubt excellent. I have to admit I found the beginning a bit slow and it took me a time to get a proper feel for the story, but once I did I started to enjoy it a lot better. Sure, it was a bit too fluffy, cliche and predictable for me. But then again I kind of already knew what I signed up for when I started The Unexpected Everything. The main characters are well developed in general and I especially loved Clark’s character. I also LOVED the dogs, the fact that Clark is a fantasy writer and the geeky elements in general. Contemporary romance fans will probably devour this book and I can definitely recommend it.

Andie has grown up as a politician’s daughter and has learned from a young age that everything can be planned or spun, or both. She has her future all planned out: an important internship that will help her application for her favorite college, great friends and even a boyfriend once in a while. But that was before the scandal that affected her dad’s political career. Suddenly Andie finds herself no longer having the internship and on top of that she will have to spend the summer in the same house with her dad. All the good internships and jobs are gone and she is getting desperate. For once, planning everything didn’t work out, and Andie will have to get used to the unexpected.

I think the main reason I didn’t enjoy this story as much as most people do is that fluffy romance just isn’t for me. The beginning of the story was a bit slow, but I did adore the dogs, the geeky elements and Clark. The plot might be a little predictable, but The Unexpected Everything is without doubt an excellent feel-good story that will appeal to every contemporary romance fan.
