WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’m currently reading two of the Goodreads Choice Awards finalists: Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi and Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi. I’m not that far into the stories yet, but both look quite promising. I’ve also started my very first audiobook Secondhand Smoke by M. Louis (narrated by Colin Iago McCarthy), which was sent to me by Mindbuck Media Book Publicity in exchange for an honest review. It still takes time to get used to the whole audiobook idea, but there are definitely advantages to it.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
*The first book I have managed to finish is Before You Leap by Keith Houghton, which turned out to be a really interesting psychological thriller. The prose was great and even though the story was a bit confusing in the beginning, I ended up really enjoying this read. I’m not too sure about the ending though.
* I then read It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover, and boy, she has done it again. Those who know me are already aware of my not-so-good relation with the romance genre, but this one is an exception to the rule. This title just became the second 5 star CoHo book on my list. Why is it so brilliant? With a well written story, intriguing plot, strong characters and a very important theme, there isn’t much that can go wrong.
* The last book I finished this week is The Power by Naomi Alderman, a title I requested based on Claire‘s review and turned out to be just as good as she had promised me. It’s without doubt a very powerful read indeed and one that will stay with me for a while. Read this one if you have the chance!
I should really pick up another pending Netgalley ARC; most likely The Girls Next Door by Mel Sherratt. I also want to read both When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo since they are finalists in the Goodreads Choice Awards. I might read my latest TBR jar pick is still A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman first though.
I’m so glad you thought The Power was good. The very last letters between the man who has supposedly written the book and the female writer who is advising him just make it all the more mind bending!

I totally agree! The Power is without doubt a story that messes with your mind continuously… Without doubt a very powerful story.

I’m so glad I ended up loving It Ends With Us! Especially since I seem to have a love-hate relationship with her books. Homegoing is a pretty good read so far as well. Happy reading!

Ah, so many books here that I need to read!
So glad that you enjoyed so many of them. It’s funny. Seeing the Goodreads Awards has been inspiring me to want to pick up a few of them. Somehow, I haven’t read a single one on any of the lists 😔
After loving my Grandmother Sends her Regards and Apologizes, I highly recommend reading Backman! I hope to get to A Man Called Ove soon too 🙂
Happy Reading!

I know how you feel; I haven’t read that many of the nominees either this year. I’m going to read a few, but there is no way I will have enough time to read them before the end of this year. 😉 A Man Called Ove is on my priority list though, and I’m hoping to start it by next week. Happy reading!

I’m happy you enjoyed CoHo’s book. That’s awesome that you were able to connect with it even though romance doesn’t always work out for you.
My WWW Wednesday.

I don’t always like CoHo’s books, but she has managed to get me to read two of her stories the full 5 stars so far. Her prose and stories are just too powerful to get me to worry about the romance scenes.

When Breathe Becomes Air is one of my top reads of 2016. What a fantastic yet sad book. I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts. I haven’t read It Ends with Us but it seems like everyone who has really liked it

That’s great to hear! I’m hoping to get to the memoir soon. And It Ends With Us is without doubt an excellent read; not just another contemporary romance story either since it deals with a very sensitive theme as well (abuse).

I don’t typically read YA but when so many people recommend a book like It Ends with Us, it makes me think I may need to look into it:)

Technically it’s NA (a genre I almost never read), but Colleen Hoover is definitely an exception to that rule. She is truly brilliant at writing realistic feeling romance without it becoming sappy or cliche. It Ends With Us is hands down one of her strongest books I’ve read so far. 🙂

Everyone seems to be loving Colleen Hoover lately! I’m not a romance fan so I’ve yet to try her. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

It took me a long time to pick up one of her novels as well for the same reason, but she has definitely convinced me I can actually enjoy romance if it’s done right. 🙂 Happy reading and thanks for hosting!
