2017 Beat The Backlist

btbchallengeslider

I know that technically there still is more than a month of 2016 left, but I saw this new 2017 challenge mentioned by Donna over at Chocolatenwaffles’ Blog and I just HAD to join. (P.S. visit her blog if you haven’t already, she’s awesome. πŸ˜€ )

The 2017 Beat The Backlist challenge is hosted over at Novelknight AND also includes a Harry Potter themed mini challenge; how cool is that?! Of course I will be joining that one as well, proudly trying to win the Hogwarts House Cup along with my fellow Ravenclaws. (Yes, I finally checked Pottermore and I can now officially say that’s my house.)

# What is the ‘2017 Beat The Backlist’ challenge about? #

This challenge runs from January 1st to December 31st 2017 is all about finally reading all those poor neglected books that have been collecting dust for way too long, ignored and/or pushed aside for new releases and ARCs. And since my TBR pile is about to explode and I’m definitely guilty of the above, I will set my goal to read 50 books that have been published before 2016 next year. And not only that, at least 20 of them will have to be published before 2013… I know I have read WAY more books than that this year so far, but I’m ashamed to admit more than a third of them have been books published in 2016. Oops?!

# GOALS #

In short, my goals for this challenge will be:

  • read 50 books published before 2016
  • read 20 books published before 2013
  • review each book
  • update challenge post monthly

# TBR #

Since I will be trying to read a few titles that have been on my shelves for a while next month, I will be making a proper TBR closer to the end of this year. But if I can’t get to them before, I can promise that titles like the Red Rising trilogy, Outlander and The Darkest Minds will sure be mentioned.

Make sure to check out the official challenge page at Novelknight and sign up if you want to join the fun! Your TBR pile will thank you. πŸ˜‰

    • The best part is that you can set your own goals, and the ONLY rule is that books have to be published before 2017 to count. So you can make it as challenging as you want to. πŸ˜€

  1. Thank you for the shoutout! πŸ˜˜πŸ˜€
So happy you’re taking part in this, it sounds so fun. Yay, one more reader for Ravenclaw! You set such a high goal, I’m impressed! My TBR isn’t that huge but I hoard ebooks too fast I need help to go through them all!

    • You’re welcome! ❀ Ravenclaws to the power haha. I don't even want to look at the real numbers related to my TBR pile… I don't have a lot of physical books (unfortunately, blame it on me living in Argentina and English books being hard to find/crazy expensive), but my kindle is literally about to explode with unread ebooks. Up to what point? Well, I don't know if there will be room for more files pretty soon if I keep up the pace. πŸ˜‰ Like you I definitely need help!

      • I too have a crap tone of Kindle books I hope to eventually get to but my problem with that is I love hiding a physical book in my hands. Tablets and e-readers are cool and a fantastic way to hoard books but it certainly doesn’t have the same weight

      • I used to be exactly the same! I still prefer physical copies, but they are not as easy to get now I’m living in Argentina and I’ve grown to love my kindle.

    • Yeah I know the feeling. I guess it’s one of the reasons I’m going to wait to mid December to make my full backlist for this challenge… And I’m sure it will change at least a few times during 2017. πŸ˜‰ I’m hoping the publish dates will make me read more books that haven’t been published in the last year…

  2. Yvo, I love how you set more goals than just reading the books. Think I’ll add those to my post as they were my intention as well. Thanks for reminding me and for checking out The Procrastinate Reader: A Different Kind of Book Blog!

  3. All the best with the challenge. I will definitely join in next year because I have neglected so many books this year and focused a lot more on ARCs and new releases
