Today it’s time for part four of my best of 2016 series, and today it’s all about historical fiction novels. It’s one of my favorite genres, and I managed to read quite a few interesting stories this year. Below my five favorite of the bunch:
5. Homegoing (4 stars) by Yaa Gyasi
4. The Nightingale (4 stars) by Kristin Hannah
3. From Sand And Ash (4,5 stars) by Amy Harmon
2. Out Of The Easy (4,5 stars) by Ruta Sepetys
1. All The Light We Cannot See (5 stars) by Anthony Doerr
Have you read any of these titles yourself? What were your favorite historical fiction reads of 2016? Feel free to comment! 🙂
I love reading historical fiction, especially in the winter. The Nightingale and All the Light We Cannot See has been on my shelf forever- I plan on starting them this month!

I have only read All the lights you can see from this list and that was certainly a brilliant work . I really pitied the German boy & his sister in the book (sorry can’t remember the name , i read it long back)

Don’t worry, I read it almost a year ago as well and the names are starting to get fuzzy after reading too many other stories in between. I still remember the characters you mentioned though, and I can definitely understand.

I loved Out of the Easy so much. I had read Sepetys’ other two books and was hesitant because I wasn’t sure I’d like the setting, but I think it’s actually my favorite out of her books. Homegoing, The Nightingale, and All the Light We Cannot See are all on my TBR. I keep seeing great things about those three. 🙂

Such a great list. The Nightingale and From Sand and Ash will be my absolute favorite historical fiction books forever. I don’t know how anyone will top them. 🙂 I want to read Out of the Easy – I loved the other book I read by that author. Have you read Salt to the Sea yet? So good. All The Light We Cannot See intrigues me, but I’m not sure it would hold my attention. May have to try it.

I still haven’t gotten myself a copy of Salt To The Sea… I don’t know why, but I’m going to try and change that ASAP. Out Of The Easy is such a great read though, and I LOVED the setting. And I remember some people struggling with All The Light We Cannot See, but I personally loved it. Very well written prose!

Yay for All The Light We Cannot See and The Nightingale! I read both of those a couple years ago and adored them. 🙂 Nice to see Ruta Sepetys on there, too. I read her new book (well, new in 2016) “Salt to the Sea” and liked it a lot, then got “Between Shades of Grey” for Christmas.
