WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’m currently reading The Rest Of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness; I’ve been wanting to read another of his books for ages now and I’m glad I finally decided to pick one up. It’s not as mindblowingly good as I thought it would be so far though… I’m also reading Missing by Monty Marsden, a pending Netgalley ARC I wasn’t able to read before the publish date last December. Lastly, I’ve started a new audiobook: Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. So far it’s without doubt interesting, although it’s going to take me some time because the file is HUGE (18+ hours…)
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* The first book I was able to finish since last week is Stake-out by Lily Luchesi, a paranormal fantasy story with vampires I ended up enjoying a lot better than I thought I would given I’m normally allergic to fanged characters. There were a bunch of other supernatural creatures as well and I liked the whole clash between ‘real’ world and supernatural.
* I then finished Blink by K.L. Slater, which was BRILLIANT. I was already looking forward to this psychological thriller, but boy this one is definitely a treat. Basically I was on the edge of my seat the whole time trying to figure out what was going on, and I ended up being SO wrong about everything. Excellent prose, excellent plot and plot twists, excellent use of suspense, excellent character development… The main characters maybe are not all that likeable, but I didn’t care. I loved every single minute of this story anyway. Also the ‘paralyzed’ chapters are without doubt intriguing and add an extra original touch…
* And just when I didn’t think it could get better, I was presented with another title that would give me a book hangover. I had already heard great things about Making Faces by Amy Harmon, and that’s why I basically broke down the request button as soon as I saw it at Netgalley. All the raving reviews were right: this story is a little masterpiece. I fell in love with both the characters, writing style and plot, and this story will definitely stay with me for quite some time. Sure, some of it might be a little cheesy. But if you have characters like Fern, Bailey and Ambrose, it’s really easy to forgive the story for it. I LOVED the war veteran elements as well; it’s such an important topic and definitely deserves more attention.
* The last book I picked up on a whim after browsing my kindle: The Wrong Side Of Right by Jenn Marie Thorne. It turned out to be a bittersweet read after all the immigration chaos that is going on right now in the US IRL… I did appreciate the immigration elements in the story, but it took me a while to really connect to the main characters and it all just felt a bit too cheesy for me. Not a bad read, but maybe not exactly for me.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
The first book I’m picking up next is another pending Netgalley ARC: The Impossible Fortress by Jason Rekulak, which is due to be published next week. I also want to read Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult, as well as the ARC Little Girl Lost by Carol Wyer. My newest TBR jar pick is still The Five Stages Of Andrew Brawley by Shaun David Hutchinson.
You can also find me at Goodreads. Twitter. Instagram. Bloglovin’.
Yay!,I’m so glad that you enjoyed Blink.I did too.I’ve been seeing mixed reviews so I’m glad to see that I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed it.I look forward to your review of Little Girl Lost.Enjoy all your books this week.Happy reading.

You did? I haven’t seen that many reviews of Blink so far, but I’m surprised people wouldn’t like it… I can’t wait to pick up Little Girl Lost as soon as I finish my current ARC! 😀 Happy reading. ❤

Blink is staring at me, begging me to read iiiiiiit! I also love the sound of Little Lost Girl but adding another ARC to my shelf would be terrible… wouldn’t it? Happy reading!

Yes, YES to Blink! It’s SO good; I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did! And I wasn’t going to request Little Girl Lost at first either, but I’ve heard so many great things about it that I gave in in the end. Poor poor Netgalley ratio haha.

Aw, I loved The Wrong Side of Right but it’s too bad it didn’t work out for you. I also saw Blink on your WWW last week so I added it to my TBR and after reading a lot of good reviews, I’m considering putting it on top of my TBR. 🙂
Happy Reading and here’s my WWW: https://thefuninreadingbooks.wordpress.com/2017/02/01/www-wednesday-february-1-2017/

The Wrong Side Of Right wasn’t a bad read, maybe just not a proper match for me? Blink is a great read though, definitely worth the try. Happy reading!

I love the cover of Making Faces, I may take a closer look at that. My friend just finished Small Great Things on audio and was raving about it. I’ll be interested in reading your thoughts about that one as I haven’t read Jodi Piccolo in years

Making Faces is such an excellent read! I’ve only recently discovered her work, but I’m already a fan. I haven’t read a Picoult in a while either, but Small Great Things sure sounds like a great read…

I recently bought Invisible Man on ebook but am considering getting the audio version so I can listen to it. I hope you enjoy listening to it. I really love audio books at the moment, it surprises me how much I listen to on some days. I read Small Great Things last year and enjoyed it – it kept me hooked all the way through.

I’ve only recently discovered audiobooks but I like the experience so far… Especially with classics; it just seems a lot easier to read them that way. And I’m glad you enjoyed Small Great Things!

After reading A Monster Calls I’ve been excited to pick up another Ness. I hope that The Rest of Us Live Here gets better.
And now you really have me itching to request Making Faces. But my NetGalley is already brimming with them… ;P
Happy Reading 🙂

18 hours is a long audiobook. Even when it is good, I reach a point where my mind says, “hey, shouldn’t we be done by now?”.
I’m so happy you wrote about Blink. I love books that completely throw your theory out the window. I’m not much of a fan of Karin Slaughter (it’s not that I dislike her writing, it’s just kind of okay for me), but this might be worth another try.
Happy reading!

I know right? I haven’t listened to a lot of audiobooks yet, but it sure sounds like a looooong ride. And Blink is so worth reading! It’s actually written my K.L. Slater, so no worries about Karin Slaughter there. 😉 Happy reading!

The genre and name are definitely similar, so it’s not that weird to mix them up. 😉

I really enjoyed The Rest of Us Just Live Here because I had a lot to relate to in Mikey, but I do get why a lot of reviewers were a bit more disappointed. I’m a bit jealous that you’ve had so many really mind-blowing reads in this past week – I’m still waiting for something to really knock me over this year.

The only other book I’ve finished by him is The Knife Of Never Letting Go, which I really enjoyed… Although I’ve heard A Monster Calls is actually his best work. Happy reading and thanks for hosting!

Sounds like you’re reading a lot, like always. I keep meaning to pick up Ness – maybe later this year, for BeatTheBacklist? I read your review of Stake Out, which has convinced me to give it a try – especially given how much you clearly dislike vampires! 🙂
Happy reading!

I actually picked up The Rest Of Us Just Live Here for the BeatTheBackList challenge as well! And Stake-out was so much better than I thought I would; I will be looking forward to read the sequels this month. Happy reading!

Whoa and 18 hour audiobook?! I think the longest one I’ve ever listened to was around 12 hours. I am not a fan of ridiculously long books because I have commitment issues lol

I can totally relate! I listened to Wuthering Heights before this one and it was over 13hs… It was definitely hard to stay focused on the story.
