I’m having the feeling I’m not alone when it comes to having a huge pile of series lying around that I either still have to start or have to finish. With so many new books being published all the time, I tend to get distracted and somehow manage to neglect to finish series even though I enjoyed reading the first book or books… And I feel kind of bad about it. I was browsing my series TBR/Read list the other day and the amount of unfinished series had me shocked. And then I’m not even talking about these two lists (1, 2) I wrote back in June 2015 with series I wanted to start ASAP… Because out of the twenty series I mentioned, I only managed to finish ONE. *hides in shame* I started nine more, but that still means only half of the total.
So I’ve decided to change that. I will be making a promise to myself to finish at least 5 of these series by the end of the year. And not only that, for every new series I want to start, I have to read a sequel of a different series first. Kind of like ‘earning’ the right to start a new series, and hopefully it will help finishing those I have already started. Which series will I be focusing on? You can find ten of them below.
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I’ve read and enjoyed the first book and I will be trying to finish this series ASAP.
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. I read the first book and enjoyed it, but somehow I never picked up the sequel. I got a copy of the fourth book not that long ago, so there’s no excuses left to not continue this series soon.
Bad Girls Don’t Die by Katie Alender. I really enjoyed the first book and want to read the sequels this winter… Either that or during the Halloween month.
Fire And Thorns by Rae Carson. I loved the first book, but somehow I never continued the series. Hopefully this year I will change that.
Shades Of London by Maureen Johnson. The first book of this series was really entertaining, so I definitely want to read the sequels some time soon.
Legend by Marie Lu. Another one where I enjoyed the first book, but managed to ignore the sequels… I still have to read The Young Elites as well. Oops?
Confessions by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro. I enjoyed the first book, but the second wasn’t as strong… They are superfast reads though and I already have the copies, so I still want to finish this series.
Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I want to kick myself for not reading the sequels sooner! I have been meaning to read these for ages now… Hopefully soon?
The Dragonian by Adrienne Woods. I loved the first book and I love dragon stories. Why haven’t I continued this series yet?!
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. I read the first two books and I admit I’m not really a fan. I still want to read the third book though, if only not to leave a series unfinished.
I just named ten of the series I will be trying to finish this year, although I have a lot more on my shelves haha. Have you read any of these yourself? Which unfinished series are your priority? I hope everyone is having a great weekend! ❤

Yep. I’m in the same boat. I’ve only read the first book in Bracken’s series, but I have the others on my Kindle. I need also find the time to read Library of souls as well as The Dream Thieves and Blue Lily, Lily Blue. There s just not enough hours in the day!😕

I know! There are so many books I want to read that I don’t even know where to start anymore haha. Fingers crossed we will find time for at least some of these this year! 🙂

Good luck! I definitely feel your struggle haha. I hope you’ll finish your goal, and that you’ll especially finish The Raven Cycle since I love that series 😛

Yay! I’ve been meaning to continue that series for ages now; it has been actually so long since I read the first book I should probably do a reread first haha. xD

Awesome! I’m stuck in the same situation also as I have a lot of book series to finish. Good luck!

Yvonne (and anyone else interested), you need to join the “Series Challenge” at the RMFAO Goodreads group: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/18397071-rmfao-2017-series-challenge
It’s not to late, you can join at any time. No special rules, just list the series/books you hope to finish in 2017. To give you an idea, I have a total of thirteen books listed in five different series.
I really enjoyed the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series. The first book was my favorite since it introduced the concept. How could you not read on after it ended with a cliff-hanger! The second one also ends with a cliff-hanger. Read on!

I didn’t know about that challenge, thanks for the link! It’s definitely a great way to finally finish some series… I actually didn’t own the sequels of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children yet when I finished the first book, so that probably explains why. I have both book two and three now, so hopefully I’ll find time to read both of them together soon.

Haha I also started The Girl of Fire and Thorns series, but I didn’t get past the first book… should really get on that, there’s no real reason why I shouldn’t or wouldn’t haha. The Legend series is one of my favourites, I hope you enjoy it once you complete it! Good luck on these goals. ❤

The Girl Of Fire And Thorns series is so underrated! I really enjoyed the first book, but like you somehow I never picked up the sequels. And good to hear you loved the Legend series! I think I’m finishing that one before starting The Young Elites.

I’m trying to prioritize some series this year too. The Raven Cycle and The Dark Tower series are high on that. Shades of Magic will be done this week at least, so that’s something to be excited about 🙂
Good luck getting through these 🙂

I didn’t even mention Shades Of Magic because I know there is no chance I will be ignoring my copy of ACOL once I get it haha. I’ve been meaning to start The Dark Tower series for so long now! But I probably should finish a few other series first. 😉 Good luck to you as well!

I feel you! I keep reading books and not realising they’re the first in a series. So much to catch up on!

That happens a lot to me as well! I’ve been trying to avoid new series but it’s definitely difficult.

A big YES to the Fire and Thorns trilogy 😊 it’s such an underrated series and the books only get better!

I completely agree! I loved the first book, but I almost never see the series mentioned elsewhere… I’m definitely going to try and read the sequels soon and give the series some love. Good to hear the sequels get only better!

Yay! Can’t wait to see what you think of them 😊 Elisa goes through a pretty incredible transformation over the trilogy- I loved reading about her beginning to end!

I still need to read Library of Souls. Hopefully I will FINALLY read it this year. I really loved the 5th Wave and The Infinite Sea, but the last book sucked so much. 😦 I was so disappointed with it.

Oh no! The third book is really that bad? Doesn’t promise much for me then since I wasn’t convinced by the first two books either. xD

I was supposed to finish The Raven Cycle this month but ARCs appeared out of nowhere and it was put off! I’m hoping on catching up with the latest Throne of Glass book but I have months to think about Lady Celaena again xD
Good luck!

I know the feeling! I’ve been reading so many ARCs lately that my poor other books get seriously neglected… I just checked and no less than 65!!% of the books I’ve read so far this year are ARCs. xD
Just a hint for Empire Of Storms: it might just be better to wait until book 6 is out… Hopefully that one will be better and help many of us get over the disappointment of book 5 , if you know what I mean. 😉

You give one of the reasons I tend to avoid series. There are so many good books around that are not series.

I like the reading experience of both, but in the last year I have been reading a lot more stand-alones than series…

I hope you finish The Raven Cycle! I really loved the second and third (favorite) books in that series. The final book was a bit of a disappointment for me, but I still love the series.
I’m in the same boat with the Miss Peregrine’s HFPC series! I enjoyed the first book, but have yet to pick up the others!

You are actually not the first to say the final book of The Raven Cycle is a disappointment! I will still finish the series though; hopefully in a few months when I don’t have so many pending ARCs anymore. 😉
