Teaser Tuesdays #134 – April 4th: The Color Purple

TEASER TUESDAYS is a weekly book meme hosted at The Purple Booker. To participate, just open the book you are currently reading to a random page, and choose two ‘teaser’ sentences from somewhere on that page. (no spoilers!)

I’m probably the last person on earth to read this (modern) classic, but somehow I never had the chance to actually pick it up. Both the Beat The Backlist challenge and Reading Through The Centuries challenge are a great excuse to finally read The Color Purple by Alice Walker. I’ve only just started it, but I’ll be looking forward to be finding out why so many people seem to love this story.

My teaser (6%):

“I spend my wedding day running from the oldest boy. He twelve. His mama died in his arms and he don’t want to hear nothing bout no new one.”

What are you reading right now?

  1. You are most assuredly not the only one to have not read this book yet since it’s been sitting on my TBR for at least ten years! I also hope to get to it this year thanks to Beat the Backlist, but first I have a lot of library books to get through.

    • Wow ten years, you definitely win! It hasn’t been on my radar that long, but long enough to qualify as a Beat The Backlist read. I struggled a bit with the beginning, but the second half definitely picks up. I hope you will be able to get to it! 🙂
