WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’m actually reading a short story called Americosis Vol. 4 by Haydn Wilks as well (although I’ll probably have finished it by now), but as the cover is basically a swearword I’ve decided not to show it on my blog (it’s bad enough it’ll show up on my Goodreads timeline xD) These volumes have been crazy rides so far and I don’t think this one will be any different. I’m also quite far into The Lost Book Of The Grail by Charlie Lovett, which is proving to be a goldmine for bookish quotes and references. The pace is superslow though and it’s taking me longer than expected to read it… I’m only a few pages into The Girls In The Water by Victoria Jenkins, but I’ll read it next since I’ve heard good things about it. And I made it to page 66 or chapter 4 of Sister by Rosamund Lupton (which I’m actually reading in Dutch). I’m not a fan of the story so far, although I’m not sure if it’s the language barrier or the book itself.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
1. Bookishly Ever After by Isabel Bandeira (DNF at 32%) REVIEW
I’m going to be honest and say I don’t think I would have picked up this story if this wouldn’t have turned up on my Netgalley shelf. I’m not a big fan of (cheesy) contemporary romance in the first place and Bookishly Ever After makes it definitely VERY easy to overdose on the high school cliches and romance tropes incorporated into the story. I’ve tried really hard to see beyond the cliches, but found myself too frustrated to be able to continue and finish the story. And I tell you, it makes me very sad to call Bookishly Ever After my second DNF this year! Part of the problem is definitely me though and I can see why fans of the genre would be able to enjoy it a lot better. Oh well, I guess we can’t like them all, can we?
2. Now You See Me by Sharon Bolton (3,5/5 stars) REVIEW COMING SOON
First of all I have to say that this book has probably suffered from the fact that I’m currently sort of in a slump and I can’t seem to love any book right now. Because there is definitely a lot to love in this first book of the Lacey Flint series. This book had me at serial killer and Jack The Ripper and I love how this old case plays such a big role in the story. It surely shows just how well the author has investigated this part! It’s a well written thriller with a lot of twists that will keep you guessing… I do have to say I never really warmed up to Lacey and the whole bantering between Joesbury and her started to get annoying. Also, the whole mystery around Lacey’s character and the twists and misinformation in the final part of the story sort of had the opposite effect on me and I mostly felt confused and frustrated instead of on the edge of my seat. I’m definitely still going to read the sequel though!
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I actually started Girl In Snow by Danya Kukafka before, but after trying a few pages I just couldn’t get into the writing style. I decided to put it on hold to see if it just wasn’t the right time for it… And read some other titles first. Probably next up will be The Ask And The Answer by Patrick Ness as part of the promise to myself to start reading my own books. I also want to read The Lying Game by Ruth Ware, which is actually an ARC but a title I’m really excited about. My newest TBR jar pick is still Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard, which I’m hoping to read some time soon.
You can also find me at Goodreads. Twitter. Instagram. Facebook. Bloglovin’.
Or you could check out my Goodreads shelf and see which Bolton I rated the highest and start with those 😉

Haha that could also work… I do already have a copy of the sequel and plan to read it as soon as the whole slump thing as disappeared completely.

I really liked Now You See Me, especially the link to the Jack The Ripper stories… I didn’t know (or remember) there’s a sequel for this one though. I should look into it :-). I only read one Patrick Ness novel but I’m interested to hear if he keeps up the same brilliant writing. I’ll keep an eye out for your review of The Ask and The Answer. Happy reading!

I think there are about four Lacey Flint books in total? I’m definitely going to try and read at least book two this year, although I’m not sure if it will be the same without the Jack The Ripper elements. I haven’t read a lot of Patrick Ness either, but what I’ve seen is good and I can’t wait to finish the Chaos Walking trilogy. 😀 Happy reading!

Shame some of the books aren’t doing it for you! I am excited to read The Girls In The Water at some point, and I want to read more Patrick Ness and also The Lying Game too. Some great picks! Here’s my WWW post: https://snazzybooks.com/2017/07/26/www-wednesday-26-july-2017/

I’m hoping turning to my own books again will bring my mojo back (I highly doubt I would NOT enjoy Our Dark Duet since Schwab is one of my favorite authors). Hopefully Patrick Ness should do the trick already though!

I bet that combination can’t fail to reignite your reading mojo!

I finished The Girls in the Water and I’m hoping to write the review today or tomorrow. I liked it but it was slightly different from what I expected!

Yay can’t wait to read that review! I’ve been taking time for myself and haven’t read a lot since last week… So I’m still at chapter one for now haha. Seeing you liking it is a good sign though. ❤

I haven’t been able to decide if I want to try The Lying Game because of mixed reviews. I can’t wait to see what you think of it!!

Yeah it’s true it has been having mixed reviews… But I guess since I want to start reading her books I’ll start with this ARC anyway. Fingers crossed!

Sorry to hear about your slump! And bummer you didn’t love Now you See Me…I do have to say I think the third one in the series, Lost, is the best of the 4…IMO:) Hope you find something fantastic to read soon!

Sounds like I’ll have something to look forward to then! I’ll be waiting until I’m out of my slump to read the sequel, so hopefully that will help me enjoy the series better as well.

I love seeing what others are reading and planning to read, Yvo. So how do you pick from the tbr jar? I’m intrigued by that idea, but not sure how to do it.

I wrote a post about my TBR jar last year if you are interested! Although I’ve made the rules less strict and let myself draw one of each color (see post) and pick the title I like most… And the whole one month thing doesn’t happen with all the ARCs haha.

Lying Game has mixed reviews though some readers seem to like it. I hope that you will too. Sorry to hear about Girl in Snow. It is on my August TBR. I hope it gets better for you. Enjoy your books this week.

I remember the mixed reviews on The Lying Game so we’ll see how things go I guess… And I’m hoping Girl In Snow will get better the second time around, although it is having quite a lowish rating on Goodreads right now. Fingers crossed!

I wasn’t massively keen on Bookishly Ever After. I do love Patrick Ness though so I hope you like The Ask and The Answer.

I’m sorry about your slump. Those can be really tough to get out of, but I think you’ve found a good way to do it by returning to your books instead of the ARCs you said you felt you were overdosing on. Best of luck, and I hope you enjoy them!

Bookishly Ever After did really appeal to me but the reviews I spotted put me off requesting.
Patrick Ness is always good and I loved The Ask and the Answer. It always surprises me just how incredible his imagination is and how he makes the most unbelievable world believable and relevant (sorry, had a bit of a Fangirl moment)

I honestly don’t remember ever wishing for Bookishly Ever After because I knew it wouldn’t be for me after reading the reviews… But since I don’t want to miss the chance to one day reach the 100% ratio, I just had to read it. 😉
I love Patrick Ness as well and it’s one of the reasons I’m picking up one of his books to get out of my slump! I want to read More Than This as well, but I finally got a copy of both Chaos Walking sequels and couldn’t resist. 😉 Also, Release… I really have a lot of Ness catching up to do.

Oh I love More Than This. I’ve read it a couple of times and think it might be my favourite. Chaos Walking is brilliant and I love it but I don’t think I could ever re read Knife.

I might just be saving More Than This for last then so it won’t spoil my experience with the other books I still have to read! 😉 And Knife broke my heart… It’s one of the reasons I’m not sure whether to reread it before starting on the sequel.

I really couldn’t re read it. I want to cry just thinking about it 😭

Yeah I’ll most likely skip the reread as well… I still can’t believe Ness did that to us readers.

Do you follow him on Twitter? He keeps joking about it and it’s really not funny.

I don’t and I don’t think I will now… I don’t want to me remembered constantly and joking is about it is NOT ok, even if he is the author.

hahaha. It does not go down well with his followers either 🙂
