I joined this challenge in 2017 and 2018 and both years it turned out to be a big success. I managed to read no less than 108! NG ARCs last year and 16 other ARCs; way more than I planned and in a way I’m hoping I’ll be less successful in 2019. Why? I want to finally read more backlist titles as well… Let’s see if I can find a healthy balance in 2019. This yearly challenge is currently hosted at Reading Between The Pages.
Challenge Guidelines
- The challenge runs from January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019. There is no deadline to signup.
- Everyone is welcome to participate – you do not need to have a blog.
- Any genre, release date, length, etc. counts, it just needs to be a book from NetGalley or Edelweiss.
- Books can count for more than one challenge that you are participating in.
- If you want to move up or down a level – go for it!
- The first day of each month I will post a monthly “link-up” for you to link your reviews. If you forget one month, no worries, just catch up the next month.
- Questions: Feel free to leave a comment below or use the contact page at the top of this post.
- Hashtag: #NGEW2019
The Levels
Bronze – 10 Books
Silver – 25 Books
Gold – 50 Books
Platinum – 75 Books
Diamond – 100 Books
I will be going for 50 books, which I hope will be doable. I currently have a whopping 17 NG books pending (plus a bunch of other ARCs) and a 94% ratio, so we’ll see how things go I guess.
Have you joined this challenge? What are your goals? Feel free to comment. 🙂

Another I forgot to update this year! 😂

You are not the only one, I don’t think I added even one review to the monthly linky during the whole of 2018. xD

At least we did read the books right? 😉

Incredible achievement! Wondering how authors get books to Netgalley readers.

I’ve never thought about that side of the equation, but normally it’s the publishers or authors themselves making them available on Netgalley and readers browsing the titles… I’ve also received personal emails with authors promoting their title and linking to Netgalley.

Wow! That’s a lot of ARCs! Netgalley is such a great resource, for authors and reviewers alike. I used to get ARCs from them, but didn’t have the time to devote to it. I should really try to get back into it again.

Yeah I do get that… It takes up a lot of time, especially if you can’t control yourself and hit that request button once too many (that’s so not me, I swear! 😉 ). I’ve heard others who manage to request only one or two titles they really want to read and only request new ones when they are finished; that sounds a lot more doable.

When I used to request them, I ended up with a few that I was unable to review in a timely manner. I felt awful about it, but sometimes life just gets in the way. Maybe I should make it a new goal for next year. 🙂

Yeah I totally get that, it happened to me a few times and I felt awful. Going slow and just requesting the one title with a far away deadline might help though. 🙂

I sent my 100th review to NG yesterday! No challenges for me, it never works. I said I would cut down on tours, it never happened, so I won’t pretend to stay away from ARCs!

Congrats that’s amazing! The only way I manage challenges is to pick those I know I can probably finish with no effort on my part whatsoever haha. Since I know I won’t be able to resist ARCs in 2019 either, I know I will get those ARCs read no matter what. 😉

I truly think readers who do challenges every year are just superhumans! 😀 Or just proper humans, hahaha.. I would love to do a challenge but I know, even with the challenge being proper laid back, I’d stress the bejebus out of myself and quit anyway… talk about commitment issues! 🙂
But, unofficially I do plan to pay more attention to Netgalley and my Goodreads TBR list in 2019!
All the best with the challenge(s)! 🙂

The only reason I join challenges is that I only pick those I can probably finish without making a serious effort to do so… Otherwise I would stress too much and suddenly have to read all the books in the last month of the year (still happens with some prompts though xD).
I hope 2019 will be an excellent reading year for you!
