Let’s do something different today… It’s something I’ve been working on recently after playing the procrastinating game for months. What do I want to ramble about today then? Bookstagram. While I’ve been lurking the bookish Instagram community for a long time, it has been only two years since I started posting on my own account. Mostly kindle shots featuring my garden, and nothing fancy at all… Things progressed over time, but I’ve always felt like a complete failure compared to all those gorgeous photos out there. I admit I wasn’t all that bothered by it as I thought I would be, mostly because I was having fun taking those ‘lousy’ shots anyway… But recently I’ve been thinking I should pull my act together and try something different.
So what does that something different mean? Well, one thing I’ve been seeing in all those gorgeous and successful accounts is that (other than having those stunning photos) they all seem to have a theme; something that makes the photos connect and makes their feed look great as a whole. Confession: my feed was a total and complete mess, me just taking those photos in whatever way I felt like at that moment and not thinking about if they would look good with the previous ones. I thought it was a safe bet that if I wanted to improve my bookstagram account and stats, I should probably do something about that.
But how to decide on just one theme? I struggled more with this than I thought, but in the end I decided to go with what I love myself. Which is basically a black & white background and if I want one or more color splashes popping up to contrast that; always making sure to maintain a minimalist feel. I love my black & white decoration and clothes, so finding suiting backgrounds wouldn’t be too difficult… And with the (rainbow) paper roses I made as a DIY project recently, I had lots of props ready to use. (I LOVE the rainbow roses by the way; they are so pretty! ❤ )
So below my recent feed after I decided to finally stick to a theme!
Now my question to you is: what do you think of my decision to change my feed and stick to a genre? Should I continue with it? Do something different? Honest opinions are more than welcome as I have no clue as to whether I’m doing things right here. xD
Also, if you have a bookstagram account feel free to leave me your username so I can follow you! My details are below. 🙂
You can also find me at Goodreads. Twitter. Instagram. Facebook. Bloglovin’.
I like what you have done! The theme ties them all together but there is enough difference to make sure it’s not boring. I see some accounts where every photo is taken on the same blanket or shelf with the same coffee mug and it’s not that exciting, you know?
I’ve started taking photos in a particular spot in my garden which is starting to become my new theme, though I also use the same Instagram as a personal one, so there’s shots of other stuff I’ve been doing in amongst the bookish posts.

Ah yes I know exactly what you mean! I’m definitely trying to still have enough differences so it doesn’t feel like copy-repeat all the time, although I admit I have no idea what I’m doing still haha. I always love garden shots!

I’m so bad at bookstagram. For one, my posting is up and down like a yo-yo. And I think the only “theme” I have is the filter I use 😂

I can so relate to this! I always start posting, keep it up for a while then get bored and post nothing for months… And then start that cycle all over again. xD It’s the first time I’m trying the whole theme thing but we’ll see how long I will stick with it. 😉

Gosh Yvo, this pure magic. Your photos are so beautiful and the theme is perfect. I take terrible pictures and have no theme. You inspire me to try something new. Beautiful.

Aw thank you! ❤ I feel like such an amateur compared to all those popular account but I like how my feed looks more cleaned up now. 🙂

Ah yes her blog post was what got me thinking as well! Thinking up a theme is definitely way harder than it looks though; she makes it seem so easy. 😉

I love it!! Keep it up 🙂
I’ve debated doing a theme myself, but have yet to do anything about it.

Thanks! I’m definitely going to try. 🙂 It took a long time to figure out what I wanted to do, so I can definitely relate.

Confession: I’m awful at Bookstagram and my feed has absolutely zero consistency. I definitely think the “big” bookstagrammers have consistent photos that are unique that that specific account…I just don’t have the time/money to invest in making my photos look a certain way. But once I kind of admitted that I’m not that kind of bookstagrammer, I’ve been having a lot more fun. I mostly use instagram as a way to record my reading life in a visual form.
That being said, I think your photos look fantastic! I like the idea of doing black and white with a pop of color from the book covers. I will definitely make sure I’m following your bookstagram 🙂

I totally get that! While I’m trying to do this theme thing now, I mostly just want to have fun taking photos and don’t have the time or money to invest too much into my Bookstagram account… I’ll leave that to the experts. 😉 I just checked and I’m following you as well.

I like the theme. It’s pretty, color-coordinated, and simple, but it really stands out.

I’m definitely a mess when it comes to bookstagram! 🙂 I try but I can’t stick to a theme. I love yours though!

I’m not sure how long I will last either but the fact that I love black & white anything will probably help. 😉

Ok unpopular opinion here 😉 I love your theme, I do really it’s pleasing and original, but I love a theme with a cat in it even more 😋 I can’t help it, I love looking at pics with books and animals (those biblioferrets are also cuuuute). You’ll just have to keep on posting these on Twitter 😁

Haha I totally get that as I love those kind of photos as well! I don’t think I can pull it off though as Jasmine refuses to let me take a photo of her most of the time and Delilah Bard never stays still long enough to take a decent one. xD I’m still going to try and squeeze in a few of cat photos if they let me or at least add them along with a more theme fitting photo. 😉 I follow that ferret account as well; so freaking adorable! ❤

I LOVE your theme! It’s uniquely yours, the rainbow flowers catch my eye, and your colors pop! I don’t really have a set them, but my kittens show up in a bunch of pictures! ♥️

I love your photos! Your cats are so adorable… ❤ Mine won't let me take photos of them in that way haha. (One is a maybe, but she hardly ever stays still long enough 😉 )

Thank you! So kind of you! 🐱 ♥️ Two of them are kittens and are quite busy! I’m not sure how they end up in so many photos! 😂

You’ve definitely stepped up your bookstagram game! I love the new cohesive look you are going for. I’d say go for it 🙂
Oh bookstagram! I don’t think I’ll ever bee super productive or successful on my bookstagram account. For me, I like to take pictures of the events I attend, and feature some of the books I’m reading and/or reviewing. I don’t think I am motivated enough to attempt a theme or even to post super regularly lol BUT it will get easier now that spring is here to take more pictures 🙂

Thanks! Like you, posting regularly and investing the amount of time apparently needed to grow a bookstagram account is going to be tricky for me though. 😉 I enjoy taking these themed photos though, so we’ll see how things go I guess… Nice weather always helps! I’m kind of sad I’ll be facing winter next myself.
