July turned out to be an uneventful month and with the cold winter weather I’ve been spending lots of time cooped up instead in the company of a steaming cup of tea or coffee, a purring cat and of course the obligatory book or my kindle. With the result I managed to read a LOT! More about that below… I was also lucky enough to receive a copy of the children’s book Física Hasta En La Sopa by Hernán Grecco early July through the Masa Crítica Argentina program at Babelio, and I had a lot of fun reading it! As it’s not on Goodreads I won’t count it toward my read books this year, but in case you are interested, you can find a full review (in Spanish) here.
I also enjoyed my time baking (featured below my fruit-custard pie and ‘sunset swirl’ lemon bites), preparing homemade stuffed pasta (sorrentinos!) to freeze and other kitchen related things… My second-favorite thing to do after reading. 😉 And some of the bulbs in our garden are having flowers early this year and I love the little touch of Spring in the air! ❤
Now to the bookish numbers:
- Number of books read in July: 21
- Total number of books read this year: 156
- Total number of pages read in July: 7.970
- Total number of pages read this year: 52.114
July turned out to be an excellent reading month despite another DNF, and I found myself not one, not two, but THREE new 5 star reads! On top of that, FOUR other fantastic titles were given the almost perfect rating… Oh yes, I definitely got lucky last month.
JULY READS
5 STARS: Absolutely and entirely mind blowing! I suggest you to pick up a copy now.

Trance – by Adam Southward // Ivory And Bone – by Julie Eshbaugh // Along The Broken Bay – by Flora J. Solomon
0 STARS (DNF): I didn’t even bother to finish this one. Either horrible or definitely not for me!
The Dark Descent Of Elizabeth Frankenstein – by Kiersten White
I have quite a few challenges going on in 2019, but I feel all have doable goals I’m managing to work on without trying too hard. Things are well on track so far in general, and I managed to finish a couple of challenges already! I reached my Goodreads goal quite early in the year and I’m wondering right now if I should up my goal to 200 books… I’ve also managed to finish my Netgalley challenge by surpassing the 50 NG ARCs mark and I finished the Author part of my ABC challenge! And I have no doubt that I’ll be able to finish both the Beat The Backlist challenge and the Title ABC challenge before the end of August…

I definitely read more than anticipated… 😉 And I love baking! I would bake every day if not for the fact that we actually have to eat everything I bake and we would end up exploding haha.

If I read two books a month, that’s a lot for me. Brava for all these books!

I was the same a few years back! I guess my reading speed is up to my former university speed again… And it does help a lot of these are superfast and engaging reads. 🙂

My mild dyslexia holds me back, but I don’t do too badly!

Oh I can understand that! Have you tried audiobooks? A lot of people enjoy them and some even prefer them over physical books. 🙂

I’ve read three audio books (I think there’s a post on my blog about the experience), but despite the dyslexia, I really am more of a visual person.

I know right? I LOVE fruit custard and I’m really missing the summer fruits right now… Normally I add at least some strawberries and blueberries.

Great month! You can add books to Goodreads, you know, if you do want to add the Spanish one and make it count towards your total.

I totally didn’t realize you could do that! I thought only Goodreads librarians could add new titles… I just did a search to see how and I actually managed to add it haha.

I think the librarians might come in to check it out and clean it up or add some more details or something. I hate reading a book and not being able to update Goodreads, I mean have you actually read it if it’s not on your Goodreads page?! 🤷♀️😂

Ah that does make sense! And yes, it did feel really weird not having it on my Goodreads shelves haha.

Those recipes look great! It looks like you had a great reading month. I’m trying to figure out a good reading strategy for myself so I can read more books without trying to put extra pressure on myself.

Thanks! I’ve been restricting my social media and blogging time myself, and it’s probably the main reason I managed to read the amount I did… My blog stats have plummeted though. xD

Amazing job reading 21 books in July! I wish I could read as many as you do, haha. Looks like you had some really great reads.

I’m still not sure how I’m able to haha, but I do read a lot faster on my kindle… July definitely had a lot of new favorites!

Haha trust me I’ve been going between rating it 4,5 and 5 star for a long time… I’m having a feeling I will just go for the 5 with the next two books. 😉 xx

Wowza 20+ books in one month! I bow before greatness 🙂
You DNFed The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein?!?!? I find that very interesting since we are typically very similar rating wise. It was a 5 star read for me lol I don’t think we’ve ever disagreed so much on a book.

I only get those numbers if I slow down on the social media and blogging though. 😉
And that is so strange! It’s true we normally have similar opinions on books… I’m having the feeling it might just have been the wrong book at the wrong time for me though.
