How on earth is it August already?! Seriously, I’m not sure were 2020 is going, although I can’t deny I’ll be glad to see the end of it. July was all about our home improvement project, as we’re moving next door and the place needed a lot of TLC before it was habitable again (part of the structure is over 100 years old…). I’ve been prepping during July while the workers did their thing; sewing new curtains, a sofa cover and painting bits and bobs to speed things up… The painting has begun in earnest now, so you will probably not see me around much this month or at least until we have finished moving. Wish me luck! xD I have a bunch of posts scheduled and ready to go, so the blog won’t be empty at least. 😉
Next: the bookish numbers.
- Number of books read in July: 22
- Total number of books read in 2020: 157
- Total number of pages read in July: 7.367
- Total number of pages read in 2020: 52.592
I ended up reading more than I thought I would in July, mostly because the first part of the home improvement project was a bit delayed and I used the time to binge-read my pending ARCs. I was quite lucky with my reading choices in general too, and found quite a few new favorites including my eleventh 5 star read of the year. I also had 6 books with a 3 star rating or below, but overall I can’t complain.
JULY 2020 READS

1 STAR: Boy, this one gave me a hard time. Not a book to touch again.
I Am The Night – by Ethan Cross
I’ve decided to only join a limited amount of 2020 to focus more on the joy of reading without obligations again… And somehow I’m well on my way completing them without even trying haha. I managed to complete my Goodreads challenge 5 months early!! I decided to update it to 200 since there is still a lot of time left, although I’m way ahead schedule still so I probably should have increased the goal even more. xD I’m a bit worried about 20 Books Of Summer challenge as I still have to read 5 titles and I won’t be able to read much in August, but we’ll see I guess.

Whoops? I did manage to finish my international authors/translation goal as well as my second Spanish read, which I’m really happy about… But I need to step up with the other goals in September once I have more time to read again.

22 books is amazing Yvo how do you do it?! I missed out on listening to His & Hers because I had trouble with the app on my tablet so had to uninstall it Sadly when I went to download it again it had been archived, I’m gutted!

I’m still not sure how I managed haha, although the audiobooks helped and I did spend some time binge-reading those ARCs to get them done in time… And I’m so sorry to hear you missed out on the His & Hers audio! Especially with the whole Netgalley being down and it basically not being your fault you couldn’t get it before.

I know I’ve bought the kindle book for 99p, so I might be able to get the audiobook later if they do a deal on it in the future.xx

Thanks! I always like mixing up the genres and I’ve been in the mood for more contemporaries lately… I hope to pick up even more this month if I have time. xx

I hope the house renovations continue to go well. We renovated our house before we moved in (ten years ago now) and it was hard work but so worth it once it was done and we could get settled in. I’m so pleased you loved Dear Martin, it’s an incredible novel isn’t it? I hope August is a good month for you, happy reading! 🙂 xx

Thanks! I completely agree with that; it’s hard work, but so satisfying once you start seeing the results! Dear Martin is incredible indeed, and it’s a story that will stay with me for a long time… Happy reading! xx

I agree July went by so fast! And I’m super ready for 2020 to come to an end. I hope your home improvement work continues to go well and that you still find plenty of time for reading!

I’m ready for it to be 2021, but only if it is an improvement of 2020. xD I hope you have a great August! xx

Yeah, I’m a little afraid we’ll get to 2021 and end up wishing for 2020 haha. Trying to stay positive, though!

Good luck with the move! 🙂 We really need to get a move on with painting inside our house, ugh. Hopefully before the year ends we’ll actually get around to painting the rest of the rooms. Amazing job reading 22 books even with doing all of your home improvement projects!

Thanks! The main reason we are painting it all before moving is because we know we wouldn’t be doing it any time soon otherwise. 😉 It does mean I won’t be able to read much in August at all; no 22 books this month haha. I hope you have a great August! xx

I wish we would have painted right away, because now I feel like it may never get done because we got so comfortable here lol.

I totally get that! xD The exact same would happen to us, so that’s why we’ve been trying to get everything done before we move…
