  • WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

I’m currently reading Force Of Nature by Jane Harper… It took me long enough to finally pick up my copy of this sequel! xD I’ve also started Rags Of Time by Michael Ward as the ARC is way overdue and I’m in the mood for a historical mystery.

  • WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

1. The Truth Pixie by Matt Haig (3,5/5 stars) REVIEW 18/12
I’ve read and loved the first three Christmas books in the past, but somehow I forgot to pick up The Truth Pixie after that… I really liked her character, so I had high hopes for this one. And while I do think this isn’t the strongest book of the series, I still had great fun with this story! This book is both sad and uplifting and the illustrations really make the story come alive… They definitely complement the plot very well! I’m sure children will love this book and the series in general, and it’s a great one to get into that Christmas spirit. I really liked they rhyming too; very catchy!

2. Incendiary by Zoraida Córdova (3/5 stars) REVIEW 18/12
I admit that it was cover love at first sight when I saw the cover of Incendiary, but when I read the blurb and saw it had a historical Spain influence I was sold all over again. I’ve been highly anticipating this title and I do wonder if I simply set my expectations too high, because somehow I wasn’t all too impressed by what I found. Don’t get me wrong; I still love the premise of this story, but I don’t think it reached it’s potential at all… And I have to be honest here and say that I don’t think that I will continue the series any time soon.

3. The Elephant Vanishes by Haruki Murakami (3/5 stars) REVIEW 20/12
I’ve been meaning to try Haruki Murakami’s writing for quite some time now… I tried Norwegian Wood years ago, but wasn’t able to connect to the writing back then and decided to put it on hold. My shiny new TBR jar thought it was time to try some of his short stories instead, and that’s how I ended up reading The Elephant Vanishes first. It’s true that I’m not that big of a fan of short stories in general, but I think his writing does work better this way. I don’t think that I actually enjoyed the stories; they were just too strange and without real purpose or ending, but in short doses I could appreciate what he was trying to do with them.

5. The Gift Of Happiness by Holly Martin (3,5/5 stars) REVIEW 20/12
I made a promise to myself to not be a Grinch and read a few Christmas reads this year, and The Gift Of Happiness was one of them. I was looking for something sweet and uplifting, and you definitely get an overdose of Christmas cheer with this story! I had a few minor issues with this story, mostly relating to the constant repeating of Ruby not wanting a relationship and the steamy scenes, but overall I still found this to be a very cute Christmas read.

I have now run out of Christmas themed books to read and I’m looking for more… Which titles/authors would you recommend for feel-good Christmas reads?

6. Triptych by Karin Slaughter (4/5 stars) REVIEW 22/12
I still can’t believe it took me this long to actually meet Will Trent, but I’m glad I finally did! I’ve enjoyed her writing in stand-alones in the past, and I definitely understand the love for this series now too. After an excellent first experience, I can’t wait to continue the series and I’m hoping to catch up with the rest of the books before the end of 2021…

7. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (4,5/5 stars) REVIEW 22/12
I’ve been wanting to read this one ever since I first read the blurb, and after I saw it was the Goodreads Choice Awards fiction winner I just couldn’t resist any longer. I definitely understand the love for this story now! It turned out to be such a fascinating story, and without doubt one that will stay with me for a long time.

  • WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?

I will probably read either The Beekeeper Of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri or The Chestnut Man by Soren Sveistrup next depending on what genre I’m in the mood for… I’ve been meaning to read both for a while now! I also want to pick most anticipated release The Once And Future Witches by Alix E. Harrrow soon as I LOVED The Ten Thousand Doors Of January and I have high hopes for this one too. And I have a new TBR jar pick! Radio Silence by Alice Oseman… I’ve been meaning to read this one so I will probably pick it up soon, although there is no pressure anymore as I counted my TBR jar pick reads wrong and I actually completed the goal with my previous TBR jar pick already. xD
