WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’ve been craving something light so I decided to pick up my ARC of The Dog Share by Fiona Gibson. I have high hopes for this one! I’m also starting Fractured by Karin Slaughter; this will be my final Will Trent book for a while as I’m going to read the whole Grant County series first.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
1. Ask No Questions by Claire Allan (4/5 stars) REVIEW 18/01
I’ve enjoyed Claire Allan’s psychological thrillers in the past so I couldn’t resist accepting the invite to read her newest title Ask No Questions… I’ve been looking forward to dive into this story, and I ended up having an excellent time with this psychological thriller. Fans of the genre will be delighted with this story that is part crime, part journalism, part drama and 100% effective.
2. In Five Years by Rebecca Serle (4/5 stars) REVIEW 15/01
This book has been recommended to me multiple times since it was published last year and I’ve been looking forward to finally pick it up… I was intrigued by the whole time travel element with the main character getting a glimpse of five years in the future, and I think this is definitely the element that makes In Five Years stand out. I do have to say that it took me a little while to fully warm up to the story and its characters, but once I did I simply couldn’t stop reading.
3. Snowblind by Ragnar Jonasson (4,5/5 stars) REVIEW 17/01
I’ve enjoyed his writing in the past and I’ve been looking forward to finally try his Dark Iceland series… And with the final book being recently published, I do hope to actually finish this series before the end of the year! Why? Let’s just say that I ended up having a fantastic time with Snowblind and it turned out to be the perfect atmospheric nordic noir read to help me forget about the world as well as the ongoing heatwave down here for a few hours…
4. An Eye For An Eye by Carol Wyer (2,5/5 stars) REVIEW 21/01
I’m still not sure what happened here… I love her previous two detective series, so I fully expected to have a brilliant time meeting her newest main character Kate Young. I’m not sure if it was simply the wrong book at the wrong time, but there is no denying that I wasn’t able to connect to her or the story at all. She seemed too much like the typical detective with lots of personal issues, and the constant repeating of the ‘traumatic event’ and how she struggled to cope really got on my nerves. I also guessed the final twists quite early on, which was a let down. I seem to be in the minority though, as most people seem to love An Eye For An Eye.
5. How To Stop Time by Matt Haig (4/5 stars) REVIEW 21/01
I’ve been meaning to read more of Matt Haig‘s backlist titles and decided to turn How To Stop Time into my first sci-fi read of the year. I’m glad I made that choice now! There was just something about the blurb that intrigued me immediately, and I think it is the time travel element and incorporation of historical references that made this story stand out for me.
6. Every Tool’s A Hammer by Adam Savage (2/5 stars) REVIEW 17/01
I was a big Mythbusters fan when I was younger, so I couldn’t resist adding Every Tool’s A Hammer to my shelves as soon as I first heard about it. I’ve been meaning to read it ever since, looking forward to refresh memories of the show and getting to know better one of the hosts… I have to be honest here and say that this memoir wasn’t what I expected at all, and sadly not in a positive way. Rather than focusing on the show, it’s more about creativity and creating itself and it could get really tedious and repetitive in points.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I’m reading Deity by Matt Wesolowski next as I simply cannot resist it any longer… Impossible review consequences be damned. 😉 I also want to finally pick up Caraval by Stephanie Garber as my first fantasy read of the year… And I have an ARC of Exit by Belinda Bauer due soon. My newest TBR jar pick Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane I’m planning to read before the end of January as well.
You can also find me at Goodreads. Twitter. Instagram. Bloglovin’.
I can’t wait to read ‘Ask No Questions’. I love the sound of that mix of drama, crime and journalism.
I hope you’ll enjoy your books this week. Happy reading.

I can’t wait to see what you think about Caraval, because I’ve been wanting to read it for so long now. Maybe this year will finally be the year for me too!

It’s been taking me years to get to it as well! Especially since it’s been so popular for a long time… At least I get to read all three books together if I want to now with all of them published. 😉

I’m interested in hearing what you think of Caraval. It’s a fantasy I’ve actually read. Happy reading!

I still can’t believe I haven’t read it yet to be honest… But then again I haven’t been reading all that many fantasy titles in the first place in recent years. xD

Totally with you on Deity – I love the Six Stories series and can’t wait to read this!

I’ve been putting it off only because the reviews are so tricky to write afterwards… But I already know it will blow me away once again!

I’m so hoping The Dog Share turns out to be a winner! It looks like so much fun.
I remember In Five Years having a slow start for me as I was kind of confused but ended up where you landed. Glad it worked for you by the end.
Good luck with Fractured and so glad you’re turning to Grant County. Wonderful slate!

The Dog Share turned out to be great, although it wasn’t the romance read I anticipated… It was more family focused and more drama, but still fun as a whole.
I’m enjoying Fractured so far and I also can’t wait to try the Grant County series now! Looks like I’ll be doing a whole lot of series reading this year haha.

Yay Will Trent! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the Grant County series. And then eventually how those impact your reading experience with the Will Trent series.

I’m curious to see how the two series will connect! So far Fractured has been great and in a way it will be hard to shelve Will Trent while I read the six Grant County books.

One of the main characters from the Grant county series becomes a main character in the Will Trent series. But I won’t tell you who 🙂 There is also some crossover between another character, whom I HATE. Her name is Lena and I’ll be really interested to hear what you think of her in the Grant County series because I’m wondering if I would like her more if I read that series first.

Ohhh you make me even more curious about Grant County now! I have a couple of thrillers I want to read first, but I’m definitely reading Blindsighted soon.

Yvonne, that’s a great week of reading, even if you were disappointed by two of them. Is Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane anything to do with the film of the same name? If so I expect it will be good. Take care and happy reading! 😃

Yes it is! Shutter Island is the book the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio was based on… It’s one of the exceptions where I’ve seen the movie before reading the book, so I hope the original story is just as good. Happy reading!
