WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.

  • WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

I’ve been craving something light so I decided to pick up my ARC of The Dog Share by Fiona Gibson. I have high hopes for this one! I’m also starting Fractured by Karin Slaughter; this will be my final Will Trent book for a while as I’m going to read the whole Grant County series first.

  • WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

1. Ask No Questions by Claire Allan (4/5 stars) REVIEW 18/01
I’ve enjoyed Claire Allan’s psychological thrillers in the past so I couldn’t resist accepting the invite to read her newest title Ask No Questions… I’ve been looking forward to dive into this story, and I ended up having an excellent time with this psychological thriller. Fans of the genre will be delighted with this story that is part crime, part journalism, part drama and 100% effective.

2. In Five Years by Rebecca Serle (4/5 stars) REVIEW 15/01
This book has been recommended to me multiple times since it was published last year and I’ve been looking forward to finally pick it up… I was intrigued by the whole time travel element with the main character getting a glimpse of five years in the future, and I think this is definitely the element that makes In Five Years stand out. I do have to say that it took me a little while to fully warm up to the story and its characters, but once I did I simply couldn’t stop reading.

3. Snowblind by Ragnar Jonasson (4,5/5 stars) REVIEW 17/01
I’ve enjoyed his writing in the past and I’ve been looking forward to finally try his Dark Iceland series… And with the final book being recently published, I do hope to actually finish this series before the end of the year! Why? Let’s just say that I ended up having a fantastic time with Snowblind and it turned out to be the perfect atmospheric nordic noir read to help me forget about the world as well as the ongoing heatwave down here for a few hours…

4. An Eye For An Eye by Carol Wyer (2,5/5 stars) REVIEW 21/01
I’m still not sure what happened here… I love her previous two detective series, so I fully expected to have a brilliant time meeting her newest main character Kate Young. I’m not sure if it was simply the wrong book at the wrong time, but there is no denying that I wasn’t able to connect to her or the story at all. She seemed too much like the typical detective with lots of personal issues, and the constant repeating of the ‘traumatic event’ and how she struggled to cope really got on my nerves. I also guessed the final twists quite early on, which was a let down. I seem to be in the minority though, as most people seem to love An Eye For An Eye.

5. How To Stop Time by Matt Haig (4/5 stars) REVIEW 21/01
I’ve been meaning to read more of Matt Haig‘s backlist titles and decided to turn How To Stop Time into my first sci-fi read of the year. I’m glad I made that choice now! There was just something about the blurb that intrigued me immediately, and I think it is the time travel element and incorporation of historical references that made this story stand out for me.

6. Every Tool’s A Hammer by Adam Savage (2/5 stars) REVIEW 17/01
I was a big Mythbusters fan when I was younger, so I couldn’t resist adding Every Tool’s A Hammer to my shelves as soon as I first heard about it. I’ve been meaning to read it ever since, looking forward to refresh memories of the show and getting to know better one of the hosts…  I have to be honest here and say that this memoir wasn’t what I expected at all, and sadly not in a positive way. Rather than focusing on the show, it’s more about creativity and creating itself and it could get really tedious and repetitive in points.

  • WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?

I’m reading Deity by Matt Wesolowski next as I simply cannot resist it any longer… Impossible review consequences be damned. 😉 I also want to finally pick up Caraval by Stephanie Garber as my first fantasy read of the year… And I have an ARC of Exit by Belinda Bauer due soon. My newest TBR jar pick Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane I’m planning to read before the end of January as well.
