I can’t believe it’s been months since I last wrote one of these posts with my monthly highlights! Whoops? I had originally decided to include this new feature in my monthly wrap ups, but I just felt there were too many facts squeezed into one little post and the whole purpose of putting my favorite reads in the spotlight was lost. So this is me giving those favorites their well deserved extra attention! I was really lucky with my reading choices in January and managed to enjoy the majority. There were a few that stood out above the rest, but there is one title that simply blew me away and became an easy choice for this month’s favorite… Did you guess already which one? Without further delay, January’s favorite is… *drumroll*

Deity by Matt Wesolowski!! I’m a huge fan of this series in general, and book number five was another absolute firecracker. My blog tour review was posted yesterday, but in case you need a reminder you can find teasers from my review below.

“Speechless. Flabbergasted. Mindblown. Oh yes, Matt Wesolowski has done it again and delivered us another absolute masterpiece. I was left without words and simply unable to put a proper sentence on paper that would actually do this story justice…”

Deity turned out to be another absolutely fantastic addition to the Six Stories series and I bow once again to the podcast thriller master. Say hello to what I already know will be one of my 2021 favorites!”

There were five other titles that stood out for me in January (and a reread I won’t count); all without doubt worth checking out. In the order I’ve read them:

What I said in my review:

“I ended up having a fantastic time with Snowblind and it turned out to be the perfect atmospheric nordic noir read to help me forget about the world as well as the ongoing heatwave down here for a few hours.”

“Suspense and tension are build up successfully and the claustrofobic vibe of the snowed in town only added to that ominous feel. Snowblind turned out to be a great introduction to a series I already can’t wait to continue!”

What I said in my review:

“This kind of dark humor might not be for everyone, but for me personally it was a perfect match and I loved every single minute of my time with Exit. Such an unique and well executed crime thriller!”

Exit turned out to be such a unique mix of crime thriller and contemporary with a healthy dose of dark humor to lighten up the mood and easy to like characters you cannot help but start rooting for immediately.”

What I said in my review:

The Match turned out to be the perfect romance match for me!”

“There was just something about both the characters and the writing itself that made me warm up to the story straight away… The fact that there is a lot of focus on dogs and that the story has a disability rep is of course a big bonus too.”

Teasers from future review:

“I found myself to be literally glued to the pages and entertained until the very last chapter… 100% recommended if you enjoy the genre!”

“If you love a good locked room mystery that will keep you on your toes as well as entertained until the very last page, I can highly recommend this debut.”

Teasers from future review:

“Exhilarating, thrilling and lightning-fast; just how I like my crime thrillers and Nordic Noir reads! This is definitely one of those books and series that won’t let you go until you reach that final page… A true rollercoaster ride and highly addictive.”

Smoke Screen is a fantastic Nordic Noir sequel and part of a series that is quickly turning into a new favorite.”
