I feel like I’m repeating myself when it comes to this series, but that doesn’t make it less true… Because the fact is: we all have our favorite series we cannot wait to get back to, savouring each time we get to return to our characters and set up. And the Detective Josie Quinn series has been exactly that for me ever since I read the first book back in 2018. I always feel a little giddy inside whenever the news of another Josie Quinn adventure is revealed, and this series has never failed me to this date. Hush Little Girl is already book number eleven, and no exception to this rule… It’s another absolute firecracker!
While technically you could read Hush Little Girl as a stand-alone (each book provides a new and completely separate investigation), I wouldn’t recommend it as you will be missing out on significant character background and development otherwise. Trust me, it will be well worth your time reading these books in order! Hush Little Girl has once again a fascinating plot and I liked the focus on Josie’s personal life and development as well. It might not be all too credible to have that many criminals and serial killers running around in the small town of Denton, but I’m not complaining as it means more Josie Quinn adventures to enjoy! Things can be said about the credibility in general, but I personally don’t mind as I’m always too busy turning those pages and having fun.
The mental health angle was especially fascinating in Hush Little Girl, with the focus on OCD and other health issues in children. The plot and case itself had many twists and turns and lots of lies and secrets to unravel along the way… And I especially liked reading more about the bond between Josie and the little girl (Emily). As always, you will find a healthy dose of action and suspense along the way, and more than one twist will come as a complete shock. I liked how everything came together in the end though, and I will already be looking forward to my next dose of Josie Quinn. I literally couldn’t stop reading until I reached that final page!
In short, if you enjoy a well written, lightning fast and action-packed detective thriller series that just keeps delivering, you should definitely consider a meeting with Detective Josie Quinn. These books are suspenseful, highly addictive and simply exhilarating!
