Time for another round of Yvo’s Shorties! This time around a most anticipated sequel and the first book of a series I’ve been meaning to start for ages… And both turned out to be brilliant reads.

“That’s what it means to be alive. Every day, whether you’re a regular person or an in-betweener. You run as long as you can, but Death always catches up.”

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Victoria Schwab‘s writing, and I’ve read just about everything she has written so far… I was originally going to save Bridge Of Souls for Halloween, but as that ment waiting for six months to finally read a most anticipated release of course I ended up caving in long before. I loved the first two books of this MG series, and this third book doesn’t disappoint. Schwab always has me hooked with her writing style from the very first page, and I’m happy to say that Bridge Of Souls is no exception to the rule! The series visits New Orleans this time around, and the detailed descriptions really made the city come alive for me, and I really liked the plot itself as well. New developments, a new life-threatening situation for Cass and Jacob and lots of haunting and excellent humor as well as (pop)culture references along the way… Bridge Of Souls was everything I hoped it would be, and I will be keeping fingers and toes crossed that we will have more Cassidy Blake books in the future!

Title: Silent Scream
(DI Kim Stone #1)
Author: Angela Marsons

Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Detective
First published: February 20th 2015
Publisher: Bookouture
Finished reading: April 23rd 2021

“I take a heap of rust and dirt and I build it into something beautiful. I create something that balances the ugliness of what we do. It helps.”

I’ve been meaning to start this series for years now, and somehow I never did until now… I guess the sequels quickly piling up made the series more and more daunting to start, but I’m still kicking myself for not scheduling a meeting with DI Kim Stone sooner. I already knew that I was probably going to enjoy my time with Silent Scream, and I most definitely understand the love for this series now. I was able to warm up to Kim Stone’s character almost immediately and Angela Marsons‘ writing is a true pleasure to read. I always love a good detective thriller, and I’m having a feeling I’ve just found myself another favorite series… The plot; the twists (even though I did see some coming); the characters and their development; the suspense; the writing… Silent Scream without doubt ticked all the boxes for me and I can’t wait to dive into the sequel ASAP.
