I was in the mood for a romance read so I decided to pick up the ARC The Meeting Point by Olivia Lara… I have high hopes for this one! I will also be starting July blog tour read Girls Who Lie by Eva Bjorg Aegisdottir as my stop is soon.

  • WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

1. Broken Homes by Ben Aaronovitch (4/5 stars) REVIEW
One of my goals this year is to try and catch up with the Rivers Of London series, and Broken Homes is already book number four. I’m really enjoying this urban fantasy series that mixes magic and the supernatural with a typical detective thriller, and this fourth book is no exception. While urban fantasy is not my typical genre, there is just something about these books that draws me right in, and I always end up having a great time reading them.

2. The Beekeeper Of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri (4/5 stars) REVIEW 06/07
I’ve been saying that I was going to read The Beekeeper Of Aleppo ever since it was first published two years ago, but somehow I never actually did so until now. I’m still not sure why, as I kept hearing fantastic things about it… And I’m definitely kicking myself now, as it turned out to be such a devastating, heartbreaking and important read!

3. Las Onomatobellas by Ruth Kaufman (4/5 stars) NO REVIEW 
I received a copy of this picture book as part of the Babelio Masa Crítica Argentina program and it turned out to be a great read! The illustrations were wonderful and I really liked the focus on onomatopoeias (words that sound like what it represents). Each sound is worked into a short poem that is related to it, and I can imagine the younger ones loving this story. It would be perfect to read out loud with all the sounds!

4. Miss Graham’s Cold War Cookbook by Celia Rees (3/5 stars) REVIEW
It’s no secret that I have a weak spot for WWII historical fiction, and having a story set just after the war is over seemed like a real catch. Add both a spy and a food element, and it sounded like a perfect match for me… I’ve been looking forward to read Miss Graham’s Cold War Cookbook ever since, positive I was going to love my time with this story. I’m still not sure what happened and it might just have been that it’s simply not the right time for me to read this type of story, but the fact is that I ended up having mixed thoughts instead.

5. The Castaways by Lucy Clarke (4/5 stars) REVIEW 06/07
I knew that I wanted to read this story as soon as I first heard about it. I’ve enjoyed Lucy Clarke‘s writing in the past, and the promise of both a tropical setting and a survival angle sounded exactly like my cup of tea. I’ve been looking forward to pick up The Castaways, more so after positive reviews started popping up, and the story definitely lived up to expectations for me.

6. The First Girl Child by Amy Harmon (5/5 stars) REREAD
This was one of my 2019 top favorites and I loved the story just as much the second time around! The worldbuilding, the characters, the Nordic influences, the plot, the writing: everything is simply glorious, and I can’t wait to start the sequel within the next week or so.

  • WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?

It’s time for another dose of DI Kim Stone with Blood Lines by Angela Marsons! Afterwards, I will most likely cave in and read the fantasy sequel The Second Blind Son by Amy Harmon… And my next romance read will be Starlight Over Bluebell Castle by Sarah Bennett. I probably won’t be able to read my latest TBR jar pick Red Winter by Dan Smith until well into the second half of July though as there are other titles I need/want to read first.
