!!! Happy 4th of July to all my US readers !!!
What better day than Independence Day to take a look at which US states I’ve been able to travel to in the most recent years? I confess that I haven’t officially been keeping track of the different states I visit during my bookish travels before 2022, but it seems like I mostly still mentioned at least a city in my Excel spreadsheet the previous three years and I was able to track down a rough travel summary for 2019, 2020 and 2021. 2022 isn’t complete still of course, but I’m adding the states I was able to visit so far on a map anyway… But first, it’s time for some fun facts!
# There were 4 states I’ve never visited in last four years #
# 23 states were so popular that I visited each year #
# There were 10 states I only visited once #
Now who’s ready to see some maps? I’ve made a separate map for each year (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022) and you can find a full list of the different states visited below each map.
2019: 31/50 STATES
Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin
2020: 36/50 STATES
Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia
2021: 30/50 STATES
Alabama, Alaska, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming
2022: SO FAR 34/50 STATES
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington
Looks like 2020 was my best year so far when it comes to visiting as many states as possible! I do have to work on getting those states I have never visited before (or at least not in the last four years)… Any recommendations for books set in the following states (Arkansas, Delaware, Mississippi, North Dakota)?Â

What a fun post! I’m in Louisiana, and since we have New Orleans and all the swamps it seems to make for a great setting in books. Even living here I enjoy reading books set here – when they’re done right.

I think that most (if not all) the books I’ve read set in Louisiana were in New Orleans haha. The city makes for a great setting though, I agree! I need to decide on what title to read for the state this year though, as I saw that one was still open for 2022.

It’s been a while since I’ve come across a good one set here. I’ll have to let you know if I come across one.

I don’t think I’ve read a book set in North Dakota. I’ve only just started tracking my reading locations.

It seems like it’s a difficult state to get as a setting or at least with the books I usually read? I might have read one in the previous years, because I’ve only started seriously tracking the different states this year.
