I had originally decided to include this feature in my monthly wrap ups, but I just felt there were too many facts squeezed into one little post and the whole purpose of putting my favorite reads in the spotlight was lost. So this is me giving those favorites their well deserved extra attention! June ended up being a great month and while I didn’t have any new 5 star reads, no less than six books received the nearly perfect 4,5 rating. This made it hard to pick just one favorite, because there wasn’t a title that truly stood out above the rest and I enjoyed them all… I almost had to resort to the good old eeny-meeny-miny-moe, but in the end I did make a decision. So without further delay, June’s favorite is: *drumroll*

Upgrade by Blake Crouch!! I ended up going for this sci-fi thriller as my favorite, because it’s not one of my usual genres and the author always makes me fall in love with the genre all over again.

Upgrade focuses on DNA science and engineering, and while some of this certainly went over my head as a whole I liked what it brought to the story. This is mainly thanks to the fast pace and constant movement; even if you don’t understand 100% of the science incorporated into the story, it is very easy to just move on and enjoy the ride anyway. It’s definitely what I did!”

Upgrade is one of those stories that shows me that I can truly love the sci-fi genre when the timing is right. A lot of this has to do with the fact that despite the heavy dose of science that I might not always fully digest, there is also plenty of action and suspense to keep you entertained along the way.”

There were five further titles with a 4,5 star rating; a mix of different types of thrillers and romance. I basically loved them all and it was hard to pick just one favorite for June!

What I said in my review:

“There is just something about this detective thriller series that makes me feel a little giddy inside every time a new book appears on my kindle, and I’ve never been able to resist a copy for long once it does… And I have to say that even after such a long time, memories of the different characters and previous events popped right up again once I started reading the first pages.”

“I had such a great time meeting up with Erika Foster and the rest of her team again, and you will also find some personal developments in Fatal Witness along the way. I think the cast of characters is part of the charm of this series in general, and Erika Foster makes for an excellent lead character.”

What I said in my review:

“It’s true that this kind of plot has been done before both in books and movies, but I personally don’t mind a possible lack of originality as long as the story delivers a thrilling and action-packed ride. And that is exactly what Falling did for me!”

“This was exactly the kind of fast-paced, exhilarating and action-packed thriller I was craving; the tension never faltered and the stakes were high, and I was all in for the whole ride. Falling would definitely make for a great action movie!”

What I said in my review:

“I can say that The Only Exception is without a doubt her best book to date. It’s an uplifting, fun and charming dose of romance I simply couldn’t get enough of!”

The Only Exception ended up being such an enjoyable experience and exactly the type of slowburn and charming romance that is a perfect fit for me. The characters are extremely easy to warm up to, and you will love spending time with them! This story is perfect for anyone who likes their romance to be uplifting, on the sweet side and with a healthy dose of banter.”

What I said in my review:

“This first book of a series that I’m having a feeling will become a favorite is completely over the top, absolutely bonkers and I loved every single minute of it.”

“True, there is a complete lack of credibility and things are way over the top, but it completely works in this story as it is ment to be that way. This first book was fast-paced, absolutely hilarious and very cleverly written; I cannot wait to read the sequel for more Finlay and Vero!”

What I said in my review:

“I have to say that The Night Shift only reconfirmed my love for his writing. There is just something about the way he introduced multiple characters and POVs that makes you excited to learn more instead of frustrated by just how many different balls you have to juggle.”

The Night Shift ended up being a well written, entertaining and suspenseful thriller and I can’t wait to discover what the author has for us in store next.”
