WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.

  • WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

I’m currently reading The Sorority Murder by Allison Brennan… I’ve been meaning to try her work and start this series, and getting an ARC of the sequel was the perfect excuse to finally do so. I’m also starting Random Sh*t Flying Through The Air by Jackson Ford; I really enjoyed the first book last year, and I thought the sequel would be a great pick for my first sci-fi read of 2023.

  • WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

1. The Resort by Sarah Goodwin (2,5/5 stars) REVIEW 05/01
I had a fantastic experience reading Stranded back in 2021, and I’ve been meaning to read more of this author ever since. I do love a thriller with a remote setting, so of course I couldn’t resist the sound of The Resort. The isolated setting with the snowy mountains and abandoned ski resort sounded like the perfect atmospheric backdrop for a thriller, and I’ve been looking forward to read it ever since. Imagine my surprise when I ended up having mixed thoughts instead… And sadly my reading experience wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. More about the why in my review tomorrow.

2. Holiday Romance by Catherine Walsh (4/5 stars) REVIEW 15/01
I decided to read one last Christmas read before the end of 2022… And I literally finished it on the final day of the year. I really liked the sound of Holiday Romance with the travel element and the two friends with the holiday tradition, and this Christmas romance ended up being the perfect story to close the Holiday period with. The romance itself is slowburn, although there is some steam towards the ending I could have done without. I LOVED the travel element though, which was the star of the show for me.

3. The Summer Party by Rebecca Heath (2/5 stars) REVIEW 09/01
There was just something about The Summer Party that had me intrigued almost immediately. I do love a good thriller with an Australian setting; add the murder investigation and a powerful family with secrets and I was sold. I’ve been looking forward to this debut and I’m not sure if my expectations were simply too high, but the fact is that sadly I ended up being completely underwhelmed by this story. There were a couple of things I liked, but as a whole I came close to DNFing it more than once.

4. Just The Nicest Couple by Mary Kubica (3,5/5 stars) REVIEW 12/01
I loved my time with Local Woman Missing, and I’ve been meaning to read more of her work ever since. I loved the sound of the blurb of this newest story, and I ended up having a great time reading it. Sure, the writing style could have flowed better as there are too many short sentences… But somehow I was still quite entertained by it all. I’m not sure what to make of the ending though; there are a couple of red herrings and hints at a different ending, and I think I would have much preferred the story with a different outcome. I could have done without the cheating as well… But as a whole it was still a solid read.

5. Built To Last by Erin Hahn (3/5 stars) REVIEW 15/01
There has been a lot of hype around this title, which normally scares me away… But I loved the sound of the premise with the second chance romance and reality TV home renovation show, so I couldn’t resist picking it up. And I’m having such a hard time deciding what to make of this story now! On one hand I did love the actual story itself, the writing and the characters… But the smut was WAY too much for me to handle.

  • WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?

I couldn’t resist adding two last-minute ARCs that have already been published, so I’m squeezing them in before they are archived. The Blue Bar by Damyanti Biswas was already on my wishlist after Kelly’s review, so of course I HAD to get a copy when I saw it on Netgalley. There was also something about Hide by Tracy Clark that was impossible to resist… Then again, I do love good serial killer thriller and it has a very high rating. Afterwards, I’m probably picking up The Wednesday Morning Wild Swim by Jules Wake to get my first fiction/contemporary read in. My TBR jar pick The Library At Mount Char by Scott Hawkins will have to wait until later this month as I have a bunch of other titles I want/need to read first.
