First of all a big thank you to everyone who took time to read (and respond to) my post yesterday! ❤ Your advice was really helpful and I’m going to keep in mind all the tips to try and get out of my blogging slump as soon as possible. I’ve decided to stick with the weekly memes so far since they are fun and easy, so be ready for another teaser coming up below. 😉

I’m going to try and read the most urgent ARCs before the end of the month and then concentrate mostly on my own books in August… Most of them are thrillers, but I needed something different so I decided to pick up The Lost Book Of The Grail by Charlie Lovett. I’m not fully convinced yet, but it is still early days and the blurb shows a LOT of promise. Fingers crossed!

My teaser (5%):

“The library smelled substantial; it smelled of both life and death. The air was stale and still and Arthur felt the atmosphere of the place envelop him. He was home.”

I was stoked when I found out my Netgalley wish was actually granted and I lasted less than a week before I gave in and picked it up. After a long line of books that were either disappointing or didn’t manage to blow my mind completely, Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine seems to be doing the job and more. I know it’s still too early to tell, but what I’ve read so far is just. SO. DAMN. GOOD!!! I will definitely finish devouring this thriller before the end of today.

My teaser (12%):

“To this particular crop of vigilantes, the victims didn’t matter alive, and they don’t matter now. It’s an excuse to let their vilest impulses out to play. These trolls are no different from Mel in many ways – except that unlike him, they probably won’t act on those impulses. Probably.”

Teaser Tuesdays #148 – July 11th: Little Monsters

I’ve only started reading Little Monsters by Kara Thomas, another pending ARC that is going to be published later this month, last night, but so far it definitely has all the signs of being a great read. The writing style is very engaging and I’m having a feeling I will finish this story in record time… I can’t wait to pick it up again today!

My teaser (3%):

“I take a deep breath to slow my suddenly skittish heart. I could call them, tell them I’m not coming, but they’ll just make fun of me for being scared.”

Teaser Tuesdays #147 – July 4th: Court Of Lions

I’ve only just started reading Court Of Lions by Jane Johnson, but the beginning sounds promising. I visited Granada myself eight years ago and fell in love with the city and its history; the descriptions definitely bring back great memories. This story seems to be having two different storylines according to the blurb; one set in the present and one in 1492. I will be looking forward to continue this one today!

My teaser (3%):

“She would try phoning again in the morning; nothing to worry about. Even so, she felt a tug of anxiety for the rest of her shift, despite playing her part with professional smiles and small talk.”

I’ve literally had a copy of this one for MONTHS (read: since January) and I’ve been dying to pick it up ever since my request was approved, but somehow I had always other titles pending and had to read those instead. But no longer. I’ve finally started reading Final Girls by Riley Sager and wow what an intense beginning! I can’t wait to properly sit down and read more of this story today.

My teaser (1%):

“It was instinct that made her run. An unconscious knowledge that she needed to keep going, no matter what. Already she had forgotten why.”

Teaser Tuesdays #145 – June 20th: The Merchant’s Pearl

I’ve been saying I was going to read this story next for weeks, so it was about time I finally actually picked it up… The Merchant’s Pearl by Amie O’Brien is another ARC I’ve had pending for way too long. I’ve only just started it, but after loving the first two The Conqueror’s Saga books I’m looking forward to another story set in the Ottoman empire, this time in the late 19th century. I’m a bit afraid there will be too much romance to my taste… But we’ll see how things go I guess.

My teaser (1%):

“It was exactly as it had been. It was all so real… I almost believed he’d returned for me.”

Teaser Tuesdays #144 – June 13th: The Book Of Whispers

TEASER TUESDAYS is a weekly book meme hosted at The Purple Booker. To participate, just open the book you are currently reading to a random page, and choose two ‘teaser’ sentences from somewhere on that page. (no spoilers!)

I’ve decided to take a little break from the mystery/thriller genre and read a few different titles first… One of them is The Book Of Whispers by Kimberley Starr, another pending ARC and one that I have been curious about for a while now. I’m not sure how I will react to the demons part, but both the historical setting and existence of the ancient book the MC is given sound intriguing. It does have quite a low Goodreads rating, but we’ll see how things go!

My teaser (6%):

“I lean forwards in excitement as the third and final scarf is unwrapped, then sink back on my heels in disappointment. We aren’t a poor family, but we don’t have treasure hidden beneath the floor of our stable either. What we have instead is a book.”
