I’m currently reading another ARC, from Reading Alley this time: The Last Valentine by Felix Alexander. I love stories with a different setting so the fact that this story is set in Puerto Rico was a big selling point. Add the promise of the combination of a historical fiction and mystery read, and I just knew I had to read this story… So far it’s definitely interesting, although I’m a bit worried about the possible amount of romance in the rest of the story. The idea of a labyrinth of love letters is intriguing though!

My teaser (18%):

“She lowered her eyes when she met his intense gaze. That brief glance was the beginning of a tragic love that altered the fate of Old Sienna.”

After adding FIVE! new Bookouture titles on my ARC TBR pile in the last week, it’s about time I pick up an older Bookouture title I’ve been looking forward to. I was actually going to read it last week, but the pagecount was missing (needed that for the readathon). I picked it up as soon as BoB ended though, and it actually has a pagecount added since. I’m not that far into Be My Killer yet, but it definitely looks like another promising psychological thriller!

My teaser (3%):

“The only parts of her body Meredith Hickman could move were her eyelids. She could just blink them against the matted ends of her blood-soaked peroxide hair.”

It’s day 2 of Bout Of Books today!! I’ve been reading Enchanters by K.F. Bradshaw, a Reading Alley ARC and high fantasy read I’ve been posponing too long. It’s quite a big read (almost 600 pages!) and I feel the story is actually a bit overlong and it drags at points. The worldbuilding and idea behind the story is interesting though, although I also feel the dialogue doesn’t really sound natural in general. I’m just about to finish it and will move on to my next read afterwards…

My teaser (35%):

“Diana,” Jacob called after her. When she stopped to face him, he continued. “I meant what I said. Back in the Southland Woods. Every word.”

Teaser Tuesdays #138 – May 2nd: Anything For Her

Like I said yesterday in my May TBR, I still have a huge pile of pending ARCs, so I’ve decided to turn May into another ARC month. I’ve had Anything For Her by Jack Jordan on my Netgalley shelf for way too long now, so it’s about time I read it… I enjoyed his other story My Girl, so I’m still not sure why it took me this long to pick up Anything For Her. I’ll be looking forward to continue this one later today!

My teaser (4%):

“The trees surrounding the house had matured since her last visit and were casting shadows over the building with their extended, limb-like branches and the array of twigs that jutted from them like old, bony fingers; it was as though the neglected cottage was slowly surrendering itself to the woodland, ashamed of its dishevelled appearance.

The house had slowly begun to decay, just like their marriage.”

Teaser Tuesdays #137 – April 25th: Small Great Things

I still have a lot of pending ARCs, but I’ve decided to just read Jodi Picoult‘s Small Great Things first. I had already started it (finally!) last week, but I didn’t make much progress until yesterday. I had forgotten what the story was going to be about exactly, so I was pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of race problematics and racism as a topic. Very strong start so far!

My teaser (4%):

“For a moment, I honestly don’t understand. And then it hits me with the force of a blow: they don’t have a problem with what I’ve done. Just with who I am.”

Another Netgalley ARC this week and without doubt a title I’ve been looking forward to: The Red Hunter by Lisa Unger. Not only is the cover breathtakingly gorgeous, but the story itself sounds really promising so far. I will definitely be looking forward to continue reading this one today!

My teaser (9%):

“To see myself like that; it was odd. An out-of-body experience. And, yes, very, very careless. I’d done my recon. How could I have missed that camera?”

I’ve just started another of my thriller ARCs: What Doesn’t Kill You by Ed James. It’s actually the third book in the DI Fenchurch series and one I’ve been looking forward to, especially since the first two books have been such solid thriller reads. It’s still early days, but I’m having a feeling this is going to be another winner as well as a fast read!

My teaser (8%):

“The door shuddered open with a groan and a man blinked out into the summer night, blond hair framing his Anglo-Saxon face, almost a perfect rectangle. His face was lined with anger as well as laughter.”
