I’m starting to feel lost for words when it comes to reviewing this series… Why? Detective Kay Hunter has quickly grown into one of my favorite detective series and characters, and it’s getting hard expressing that love without sounding repetitive. This is one of those series that just keeps delivering, and every single book so far has been well written with intriguing plots, interesting and easy to like characters and just the right amount of suspense and plot twists. Kay Hunter is hands down one of my favorite detective characters and spending time catching up with her feels like wearing your favorite sweater or meeting up with an old friend. Cradle To Grave is already book number eight and by no means an exception to this rule. If you are a detective thriller fan and haven’t tried this series yet, you are most definitely missing out!

Crade To Grave is one of those books you will want to clear your schedule for, because you will most likely end up wanting to read it in one sitting. I was hooked as soon as I started reading, cancelled all plans and just kept reading until I reached that final page… Loving every single minute of the ride. While this story might work as a stand-alone quite easily as well, I personally suggest reading them in order so you can properly meet and get to know Kay and the rest. I really enjoy seeing them develop over time… Also, the little animal visitors Adam brings home always manage to make me laugh and bring some lightness to balance the darker themes. In Cradle To Grave we have a new case that, while initially seemingly simple, soon turns out to be another challenge for Kay and her team. A murder, a missing child and a whole web of secrets and lies just waiting to be uncovered… On top of that, a possible connection in a whole different country, oh la la! The plot in book number eight will definitely keep you on your toes and it will be really hard to guess the final reveals before they happen.

Twists and turns are used to keep the level of suspense steady as well as slowly building that tension towards the grand final… Combine this with excellent writing and main characters you will find yourself once again rooting for, and you won’t realize hours have passed until you read those final words. Cradle To Grave is of that same high quality I’ve become used to when it comes to this series, and I loved spending more time with my favorite team. If you are looking for a detective thriller series that keeps delivering, a plot that will keep you guessing until the very end or simply a very engaging and absorbing read, you will find all those things are covered in every single Detective Kay Hunter book. So go meet her if you haven’t already! Trust me, you won’t regret it…

I joined the Kay Hunter fan club straight after reading the first book earlier this year, and the series has been one of my top favorite discoveries of 2018. I managed to read the first six books in record time, and I have been looking forward to the next Kay Hunter adventure ever since. And it looks like the wait is finally over… Oh yes, detective thriller fans will be starting 2019 extremely well as Bridge To Burn will be hitting the stores on January 13th!!

Curious yet? Almost there!

Another absolute winner! I just love the color palette here with the teal and the green… And what about the abandoned building? What new case will Kay Hunter have to face that leads her there? I tell you, I can’t wait to find out.

Want to know what Bridge To Burn will be about? Here’s a little sample in the form of the blurb!

I have been mentioning this series a lot during the last couple of months, and Detective Kay Hunter has quickly grown into a new favorite of mine. I’m still kicking myself for not starting this series sooner, but at least I have another new favorite discovery to add to my list of 2018 top reads… Gone To Ground is already book number six in the series, and once again an excellent read. This series hasn’t disappointed me yet! I always look forward spending more time with Kay Hunter, and time always flies as soon as I start reading the first page. I literally flew through Gone To Ground and finished it in less than a day. I really like the new dynamics between Hunter and her team and reading about them is like returning to an old friend. The writing is sold, engaging and the plot twists are very well executed. I had no idea who was behind it all until the very end! And I do love my surprises. This investigation starts out a little slower than usual, as there are a lot of unknowns, but it leaves us with more time to spend with our favorite main characters instead. It was interesting to see how things slowly started to fit together and boy, what an ending! Disturbing, shocking and chilled me to the bone… Gone To Ground is without doubt another excellent to this series. I can highly recommend all six books to any detective thriller fan.

WARNING: Possible spoilers! Please don’t read this summary if you haven’t read the first five books of this series yet. I’ll keep the summary super short but it’s impossible to keep it completely spoiler-free…

When a discarded body part is found by a couple of cyclers, DI Kay Hunter and her team have no idea about the who, how and why. It’s hard to identify the victim based on the little evidence they have, but as more body parts start showing up, they are slowly starting to piece things together. Kay realises they have another serial killer on the loose, and they will have to step up their game before he kills again.

If you are looking for a detective thriller series that keeps delivering, a plot that will keep you guessing until the very end or simply a very engaging and absorbing read, you will find all those things are covered in every single Detective Kay Hunter book. Gone To Ground is no exception and has exactly the same high quality I have become used to. I liked spending more time with my favorite team and while the case they investigate took some time to start rolling, the ending left me completely shocked. I definitely didn’t see that coming! Yet another detective thriller winner and without doubt worth the read.

First of all a shout out to the wonderful Meggy @ Chocolate’n’Waffles who made me finally get to know Kay Hunter after I won this book in her giveaway a few months back. Thanks again for introducing me to what has become one of my new favorite series this year! ❤ ❤ ❤

I became an instant fan of the main character of this series as soon as I got to know her in the first book back in April, and this feeling hasn’t changed since. If anything, my love for Kay Hunter has only increased and picking up another book of this series is like putting on your favorite sweater, snuggling up in a comfortable spot and spending the day forgetting about your own problems. I hadn’t expected any different by now, but book number five Call To Arms has exactly the same quality I have become used to. Strong, solid and engaging writing, excellent character development, an interesting plot… This detective thriller has it all. I really liked that we see a vulnerable side in various characters; this makes them only more human. The characters feel like old friends and you cannot help but feel and root for them as they try to figure out what really happened as they reopen a ten year old old case. It was interesting to see them all working together to rescue one of their own… The plot and plot twists are well executed as always, and I definitely didn’t guess the final revelations! Call To Arms is another excellent addition to this series and I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book. I can highly recommend this series if you enjoy the genre!

WARNING: Possible spoilers! Please don’t read this summary if you haven’t read the first four books of this series yet. I’ll keep the summary super short but it’s impossible to keep it completely spoiler-free…

Kay Hunter managed to survive a brutal attack some time ago, but not without consequences. It has taken time for her to recover, both mentally and physically, and she is not the only victim. DI Devon Sharp is still suspended from duties as they investigate allegations made by a now former colleague. Kay Hunter is slowly going crazy being put on desk work until she is fully recovered, and finds herself something to keep her mind occupied instead. She is determined to clear Sharp’s name and reopens a cold case that links Sharp to his accuser, hoping that solving the case will bring the truth to light.

finalthoughtsreviewqqq

Basically, you can’t go wrong when you pick up one of the Detective Kay Hunter books. This series has been consistently strong so far and Call To Arms is no exception. Less fast-paced and violent than the previous book, Call To Arms instead focuses more on the main characters we have become to love, show a sensitive side and just how well they work together as a team. The cold case they investigate is another good one, with many twists, secrets and turns to keep things intriguing. Things are getting personal, and digging up the truth might hurt more than one person. Fascinated yet? You won’t regret reading Call To Arms or the other books in the series if you can appreciate a good detective thriller.

The fact this that I’ve become a huge fan of Kay Hunter in the short time I’ve gotten to know her. I have absolutely loved my time with this detective so far and book number four is no exception. This might just be my new favorite! Although it’s hard to pick favorites when all the books are good… So what about Hell To Pay? As always, the writing is sublime, the plot well developed and the story definitely has some shocking surprises in store. Oh yes, if you thought the previous books were intense, you are in for one hell of a ride with Hell To Pay. As always, although the books could be read as a stand-alone, I advice reading them in order to fully understand the character background. Plus, they are all so good you won’t regret spending more time with them in the first place. Hell To Pay offers both a new crime investigation as well as new developments to an existing subplot that has been keeping readers intrigued since book one. There is a LOT of development on that part so if you were desperate to find out more, book number four will more than deliver. And make sure to prepare yourself for an explosive ending! Oh yes, I had a blast with Hell To Pay and I think the title is spot on. Now bring it on, book number five!

What seems like a road traffic accident as first, turns out to be something a whole lot darker and disturbing as Detective Kay Hunter and her team start investigating and expose a serial killer exploiting vulnerable young women. The investigation doesn’t come without danger though, especially since there might be connections to those who wanted to silence her all those months ago… But Kay Hunter is determined to keep going until the full truth comes out.

finalthoughtsreviewqqq

The Detective Kay Hunter series is without doubt one of my favorite discoveries of 2018 and the books just keep delivering that same high quality of writing, plot and character development. I like my main characters strong and with their own personality, and Kay Hunter is one that will be able to win over your heart in record time. Hell To Pay might just be the best book yet, or at least the story with the most intensity of the bunch. Be ready for some very explosive plot twists and scenes! This one will leave you staring at the last page with your heart beating like a maniac. SO good!

This is already the third book of the Detective Kay Hunter series and I just can’t help myself picking up another one whenever I’m in the mood for a good detective thriller. Because the fact is: this series has a consistantly good quality and never disappoints. Excellent writing, interesting plots, a kick ass main character that you will find yourself rooting for, a healthy dose of suspense, plot twists… Oh, yes, this series follows the perfect recipe for a successful detective thriller and adds a little something extra to keep you fully hooked. One To Watch is no different and I literally finished book number three in one sitting. Fast, engaging, intriguing, suspenseful, twisty… One To Watch was simply unputdownable. I had my suspicions about the who and why, but the ending definitely came as a surprise. I’m so curious about the facts around Kay’s Professional Standards investigation! I definitely can’t wait to discover more about that angle in the future books. As for the plot in One To Watch, I liked how something seemingly simple turned out to have quite a few disguised layers, secrets and twists. If you like detective thrillers, you will have a blast reading both One To Watch and the rest of the series. Just make sure to reserve enough free time, because this story is highly addictive!
