Sunday Post #18 – May 8th

sundaypost

It’s Sunday today, which means it’s time for another Sunday Post… It’s basically a short summary of my blogging week and other random facts. Here we go!

# CURRENTLY READING

I finally started reading Daughter Of Smoke And Bone by Laini Taylor! It sure took me long enough to pick up this series, even though it was the winner of the which series should I read next? poll a while back. I’m hoping to finish it before the Bout Of Books read-a-thon starts, but I’m not sure if I will be having enough time to read today.

# LATEST ADDITION TO MY SHELVES

goodreadsblurbacourtofmistandfury

Look who finally has gotten her copy of A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas!! 😀 This is probably one of my most anticipated 2016-releases, so you can probably guess I will be reading this one VERY soon.

# OTHER (BOOK) NEWS

boutofbooks16

I have already mentioned this various times before, but Bout Of Books 16.0 is about to start! I’m not sure if I will actually have a lot of spare time to read next week, but that doesn’t take away that I’m excited to be participating. Hopefully it will take my mind off some negative things that have being going on lately…

One of those things is that my cat Sienna passed away last Wednesday after she was hit by a car just around the corner of my home (and just left there)… I still can’t believe that actually happened and really miss her. 😦 RIP my dear kitty cat! ❤

On a brighter note: I needed some distraction and tried to run for a bit the other day, and it seems like my knee is back in action! I’m still not fully recovered, but I did two days of 1300m and the knee seems to be holding up fine. Yay! (Note: I’ve only recently picked up running and my maximum distance is ‘only’ 2300m, so I’m quite happy with 1300m 😉 )

That’s all for this Sunday Post… Happy reading everyone!

Sunday Post #17 – April 24th

sundaypost

It’s been a while since I last did a Sunday Post (read, close to two! months ago), so I thought I would try to start this meme again. It’s basically a short summary of my blogging week and other random facts… Here we go!

# CURRENTLY READING

I have finally been able to pick up the Shades Of Magic sequel A Gathering Of Shadows again the other day… I LOVED the first book and V.E. Schwab made it straight to my list of favorite authors. The only reason I delayed reading the sequel for a week or so is because it took me a while to write a somewhat coherent review… But now I don’t have any distractions left and hopefully I will be able to finish the sequel soon.

I love stories involving dragons, so when I heard about The Smoke Thief and the Drakon series by Shana Abe, I knew I had to try the series. It sounds like a very interesting read, so hopefully I will be able to read it some time soon.

# OTHER (BOOK) NEWS

goodreadsstats

I think this Goodreads memo was sent two weeks ago? Anyway, it seems like I’m waaay ahead with my Goodreads Reading Challenge… Again. I admit I have read a lot of shorter book this year and the page count is not nearly as high as some of the previous years, but I still can’t believe I’ve been able to read this many books so far. Also, the average rating is quite low this year… I’m not sure if it is because I’ve become more strict with my ratings or if I had bad luck picking my books, but hopefully the next quarter will be better.

As far as running goes, these babies unfortunately haven’t seen a lot of action so far… I’ve been slowly recovering from a minor knee injury since last month, and I still haven’t been able to actually run so far. 😦 I’m back to (speed)walking though, so I’m hopeful I will be able to train again within two weeks. I’m keeping my fingers crossed the weather will work with me, because it is slowly getting cold (and wet) down here.

Sunday Post #16 – March 6th

sundaypost

Today is Sunday, which means it’s time for another installment of my Sunday Post where I will share a summary of my blogging week and other random facts… Here we go!

# CURRENTLY READING

I’m still reading The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton… It’s not that I don’t like it (I do!), but I just haven’t been feeling like reading historical fiction and I don’t want that to ruin my reading experience of a potential 2016 favorite. Hopefully I will be able to continue later today or tomorrow though! At least I was able to read a few other short stories and a book instead…

I have been looking out for more interesting historical fiction books and An Officer And A Spy by Robert Harris definitely seems to fit that description. I’m really looking forward to start reading this one soon! (Especially since it will help complete a challenge as well.)

# OTHER (BOOK) NEWS

So we went for a short trip to the capital this week (came back yesterday; yay for scheduling posts!), and we had some spare time to go shopping. Mostly stuff for the wedding party we’ll be going to next week, but I’m more excited about these babies below. I LOVE my new running shoes! ❤ I can’t wait to try them out next week.

Sunday Post #15 – February 28th

sundaypost

Today is Sunday, which means it’s time for another installment of my Sunday Post where I will share a summary of my blogging week and other random facts… Here we go!

# CURRENTLY READING

I have been wanting to read The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton for ages, so I’m really excited to be finally diving into this historical fiction novel. It belongs to one of my favorite genres and the Amsterdam setting surely will bring back a lot of flashbacks… I’m not that far into the story yet, but so far it’s good!

# LATEST ADDITION TO MY SHELVES

goodreadsblurbnorwegianwood

Haruki Murakami has been recommended to me at least a million times, but somehow I haven’t read any of his work yet. Norwegian Wood is not the first novel by this author on my TBR pile, but it is definitely one that has been mentioned most in combination with his name.

# OTHER (BOOK) NEWS

redqueenseries

I don’t really have a lot of book news other than that I finally have a copy of Glass Sword so I will do a Red Queen reading marathon next month! 😀 The same thing will probably happen with the Red Rising trilogy if I like the first book (which I probably will since everybody seems to love that series).

redrisingtrilogy

Talking about something different, I’ve made a promise to myself this year to really focus on my running. With bad knees and ankles I’ve never actually actively focused on running before (although I do a lot of ‘speedwalking’ and love spinning),  but this year I want to try and participate in a 5km running event. In February I’ve increased my ‘record’ from 2000m to 2300m… I know it’s only 300m, but I take it considering my good running shoes decided to die on me and the temporary old running shoes I have been using are basically a blister paradise (and my personal nightmare haha). Next month means new shoes and more running, so hopefully I will see more improvement in the future! 😀

# CURRENTLY READING

I have finally started reading All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, although I’m not too far into the story yet… I haven’t read a WWII novel in ages and I have been wanting to read this book for a long time as well, so it’s kind of two for the price of one!

I’m also but struggling to finish Me Before You by Jojo Moyes (I just don’t like it as much as most people and it turned out to be a slow read for me) and I’m reading Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn as well… The last one is better than the two other novels (Gone Girl and Dark Places) so far.

# LATEST ADDITION TO MY SHELVES

goodreadsblurbthefirstfifteenlivesofharryaugust

I’ve seen The First Fifteen Lives Of Harry August by Claire North around at the blogosphere and I’ve only read positive reviews so far… So as soon as I found myself the chance to get a copy, I decided to just ignore my exploding TBR pile and give in. I’m looking forward to be reading it!

# OTHER (BOOK) NEWS

harrypotterandthecursedchildI think every Harry Potter fan is as excited as I am when it comes to the news of a new Harry Potter adventure that is coming out this July. My eyes almost literally popped out of my head when I first saw the announcement of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child… After years and years of wanting to revisit the magical world J.K. Rowling created, it looks like she finally gave in to the fans. I don’t care that it is actually a play; this is my new most anticipated 2016 release! ❤

# CURRENTLY READING

I haven’t been having a lot of spare time to read and I’m currently away camping for the weekend, so I’m still reading Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch. I love the worldbuilding so far, but unfortunately it’s yet another YA fantasy series with an annoying love triangle…

I finally have a copy of All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr! I have been wanting to read this one for ages so I will definitely try to pick this title up next month.

# OTHER (BOOK) NEWS

Not a lot of book news this week because it’s vacation time, but I have been cooking a lot! 😀 I still have a few older recipes pending at Easy Peasy Delicious Food, but these three new recipes will be coming soon as well. (Cold shredded chicken, vegetable and potatosalad // banana oatmeal breakfast bars // variety of salty muffins)

# CURRENTLY READING

I’m trying to finish my only pending ARC before the end of the month: Eternal War: Armies Of Saints by Livio Gambarini. I like the setting and the fact that historical fiction has been mixed with fantasy… Hopefully I will find some time to continue reading it later today.

I loved the first book in the Veronica Mars series by Rob Thomas, so I had to get a copy of the sequel as well. Mr. Kiss And Tell sounds interesting, so I’m looking forward to be reading it next month or so.

# OTHER (BOOK) NEWS

sunshine

I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Sam at Taking On A World Of Words! Thanks again for the nomination, I really appreciate it. ❤ I don’t have the time for an actual post, but I’ve decided to answer her questions anyway.

  • What is the most recent book you read? I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios. I absolutely loved that book; kudos to the author for bringing awareness to what war veterans are going through.
  • Why did you decide to follow my blog? It’s always great to find someone with a similar taste for books. 🙂
  • Do you write as well as read? What do you write? I used to write poems and I started a children fantasy series when I was a teenager, but I have to confess that I haven’t been writing much during the last three years or so. I guess I’m just leaving it to those who actually know what they are doing. 😉
  • Who inspired your love of reading? My mom because she always read stories to me when I was little and took me to the library so I could lend tons of books. (Think Matilda with a cart; that would be mini-me.)
  • Do you have a friend or group you talk about books with in person? Where did you find this group? Not really… The people close to me don’t really like to read and wouldn’t read in English anyway. In fact, most people don’t even know I blog about books…
  • How many books did you read in 2015? 185, which is a ridiculous amount of books and I still don’t know how I actually managed to read them all.
  • Do you have a favorite genre? Or do you prefer literary fiction? I don’t have just one favorite genre, but I do love anything mystery/thriller, historical fiction and fantasy.
  • How about historical fiction? I really enjoy reading historical fiction; both recent history and other eras…
  • How many hours a week do you spend on your blog? That’s a difficult question, because I don’t always have a lot of time to blog… But I try to spend at least an hour or maybe two a day both writing posts and reading other blogs. Having the WordPress App on my phone does help a lot, although it doesn’t always work perfectly.
  • What’s your favorite part of blogging? Definitely the interaction with other bloggers. I love meeting other people who love books as much as I do!
  • What can you reach out and touch now with your right hand? My always-present kindle. I’m about to write a review and I always have my highlights handy for possible quotes and references.

Talking about food; I finally managed to post two new recipes at my Easy Peasy Delicious Food blog! 😀 Doughless Chard Pizza and Fresh Summer Corn Salad… The pizza is a personal favorite of mine. I also finally gave in and bought a muffin mold, so I’m going to be making muffins soon! And I made a batch of delicious oatmeal banana cookies the other day based on a recipe I found here. I will be changing the recipe a bit more next week and turn them into yummy banana breakfast bars! 😀

Also, as some of you already know it’s currently summer down here in Argentina and the perfect way to survive the 35-40ºC heat is taking these kayaks out during the afternoon… Did I mention before that I love kayaking?! Drinking this refreshing typical South American drink tereré does help a lot as well… It’s basically herbs (the same as mate) with cold juice and delicious. 😀
