Originally featured at The Broke And The Bookish, every week a new top ten with a different theme. And this Tuesday I will post my Top Ten Books On My Summer Winter TBR list! I know that officially it’s suppost to be the Summer TBR list, but since I’m living in Argentina and will be facing winter instead of summer, I made this little adaption. During winter I love to curl up somewhere warm, with a good book in my hands and a cup of steaming tea/hot chocolate nearby. These ten books below I think would be perfect to help me survive those cold and dark winter nights. In no particular order and with short descriptions copied from Goodreads:
- The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss: “…the tale of the magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen.”
- The Shining by Stephen King: “Danny … was a ‘shiner’, aglow with psychic voltage. When his father became caretaker of the Overlook Hotel his visions grew frighteningly out of control.”
- And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini: “…novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations.”
- Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell: “Slowly, steadily, through late-night conversations and an ever-growing stack of mix tapes, Eleanor and Park fall for each other. They fall in love the way you do the first time, when you’re young, and you feel as if you have nothing and everything to lose.”
- The Boy In The Striped Pajamas by John Boyne: “…Bruno longs to be an explorer and decides that there must be more to this desolate new place than meets the eye. While exploring his new environment, he meets another boy whose life and circumstances are very different to his own, and their meeting results in a friendship that has devastating consequences.”
- Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi: “Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal.”
- The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith: “A brilliant debut mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel’s suicide.”
- The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman: “After the grisly murder of his entire family, a toddler wanders into a graveyard where the ghosts and other supernatural residents agree to raise him as one of their own.”
- Black Roses by Jane Thynne: “Clara Vine is young and ambitious, and determined to succeed as an actress. A chance meeting at a party in London leads her to Berlin…into an uneasy circle of Nazi wives…Then Clara meets Leo Quinn who is undercover, working for British intelligence. Leo sees in Clara the perfect recruit..”
- Winter In Madrid by C.J. Sansom: “…this tale follows the fortunes of three young men, navigating the tumultous world of 1940s Spain. As the Second World war begins, one is sent to spy on another and the ramifications of a tragic love story will haunt them all.”
Interesting picks! The only one of those I’ve read is The Name of the Wind 🙂 I have The Cuckoo’s Calling, Graveyard Book, and Shining on my TBR, though 🙂

Oh my gosh. What?? There’s winter in Argentina? Seriously, I’m not sure The Shining will help you survive that cold and dark season. I remember watching the old movie adaption when I was younger and it really creeped me out..Ok, I’m actually just kidding .D
I REALLY enjoyed The Boy In The Striped Pajamas although the book will leave you heartbroken and I also absolutely loved Shatter Me as well as The Name of The Wind. They are both beautifully written stories and full of feels so I’m sure those books will give you that perfect feeling you’re looking for.
Great picks!

They say temperatures tonight will drop to 1 degree Celsius, so yeah it is getting quite cold down here. And I’m lucky not to be living in southern Argentina, that’s where the real cold is, brrr…
The Shining mostly is on my list because of the creeping-me-out factor, I love reading horror and suspense on winter nights. Somehow it seems appropiate. 😉
I’ve seen the movie of The Boy With The Striped Pajamas and the story really touched me… I will be reading it as soon as I finish my current read. The others I’m exited about too, especially The Name Of The Wind.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! 🙂

Oh, I can totally understand what you mean with the creeping-me-out factor! I love to snuggle up in a blanket then, knowing I’ll be both safe and creeped out for the next few hours or so..
Oh my gosh, I saw the movie as well and it definitely lives up to the book. You’re so gonna enjoy reading it!

Reading horror themed books like that is the best and only good thing of winter for me! 😀
And I’m really looking forward to reading The Boy In The Striped Pajamas next, although I’m enjoying the book I’m reading right now too (Atonement by Ian McEwan).

Oh, Atonement is so heartwrenching! I actually did that ugly kind of crying at the end of the book. You should definitely have a box of tissues with you!

Good to know, as I’m planning on finishing it tonight. Box of tissues and a lot of hot tea and chocolates, check! 😀

All of this list! I love it! I also have Eleanor & Park on my TBR, and I need to read The Shining and Dr. Sleep as well. Right now, I’m reading Night Shift by Stephen King. Also, Cuckoo’s Calling is great! You will not see the ending coming! I need to real The Graveyard Book as well. All things Neil Gaiman are awesomesauce!

Good to hear! 😀 I haven’t read Night Shift yet, how is it so far? I still haven’t managed to get a copy of The Cuckoo’s Calling yet, but I do have two Neil Gaiman books waiting for me. I love the way he writes, awesomeness!

Its really good so far. Its a collection of his short stories. I got Cuckoos from the library but there was a long wait for it.

Good to know! I might add it to my overflowing TBR list then. 🙂 And I can imagine the wait for The Cuckoo’s Calling, the book seems extremely popular, especially after it became clear J.K. Rowling was behind the book.

Yeah! I had to wait about three months for my turn to read it.

Nice, diverse list. 🙂 The Cuckoo’s Calling is great! I agree with Rachael – I didn’t guess “whodunnit”, but, at the same time, it wasn’t a cheat. The reader was given all the information as the story went along.
The Shining is really good too. Definitely the best of Kings paranormal books that I’ve read. My favorite King is Misery. Talk about chilling!

Thanks! 😀 Hopefully I can get a copy soon so I can finally read The Cuckoo’s Calling. It seems like everybody is quite positive about this one.
And I like King’s books in general; I’ve read various in the past, although I have to admit I haven’t read Misery yet. Both The Shining and The Death Zone are waiting on my TBR pile though…

Great list! You’ll love Eleanor & Park, it’s really touching. Have you read any other Rainbow Rowell? I think I actually liked Fangirl more than E&P! (Partly because I just identified with it so much, as an introverted college student still obsessed with Harry Potter.)
Have a wonderful day! 🙂

Eleanor & Park will be my first Rainbow Rowell, but I’ve heard great things about various books written by her. Fangirl will probably be read later this year too. And Harry Potter is still cool by the way, I remember reading the books in three different languages. 😉
Wonderful day to you too! 🙂
