WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I actually started the two other books first, but I needed something completely fantasy/romance free after I finished my last read. Suicide Notes by Michael Thomas Ford sounded like it would do the job and so far it’s turning out ot be an interesting and fast read. The other two books I’m reading are A Darker Shade Of Magic by V.E. Schwab, with I’m loving so far and I’ve only put on hold because I’m not really in the mood for fantasy and I don’t want to spoil it… And I’ve also finally picked up Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. I’ll probably finish this one first before continuing with ADSOM…
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* I wanted to escape the whole YA/love triangle business, so I decided to pick up this mystery/thriller kindle freebie: Blood Orchids by Toby Neal. Unfortunately not even changing genres helped me escape a love triangle and it did ruin the story slightly for me, but the story itself is still quite entertaining in general. There were quite a few things that bothered me though; more about it in my full review.
* I decided to pick up my TBR jar pick next, and boy was that the best decision I could have made! I LOVED The Conspiracy Of Us by Maggie Hall despite the hint of a love triangle… Fast pace, international setting, a conspiracy, plot twists, interesting characters: this book is almost everything I want in a series.
* I picked up the sequel Map Of Fates straight after finishing the first book, and while it was not as good as The Conspiracy Of Us and the romance scenes became more annoying (read: love triangle related), I still pretty much loved this one as well. The wait for the third book will be a long one!
* I was actually already reading All The Birds In The Sky by Charlie Jane Anders before I started any of the books mentioned above, but it took me a long time to finish it. Boy, this book was WEIRD! I guess this is one of those where the story either works for you or it doesn’t. I definitely belong to the second group and I wasn’t convinced by this story at all. The plot was all over the place, the pace a bit slow, I didn’t particularly like the characters and the story didn’t really make sense. Also, I thought this was an adult novel, but most of it felt more like a middle grade/YA read; up until a few sex scenes were thrown in. WTF?! I need more time to gather my thoughts…
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I have been in a weird reading mood lately so I will probably end up reading completely different titles instead, but here’s what I would like to read. First up is Out Of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper since I have been wanting to escape from the whole fantasy/romance/love triangle theme… And I guess both The Girl In The Ice by Robert Bryndza and The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah would probably work as well. My new TBR jar pick is The Name Of The Star by Maureen Johnson, which I’m really excited about since I have been wanting to start this series for a while now. Jack The Ripper twist, yes please!
The Girl in the Ice is a good read and I’ve seen The Nightingale on another WWW post which came highly recommended so you have 2 good picks there. The Name Of The Star sounds like my kind of read too; anything twisty is one for me 🙂

I’m really looking forward to all three of these; hopefully I will be able to enjoy them. I’ve heard a lot of great things about The Name Of The Star and its reference to Jack The Ripper, so fingers crossed. 😉

I really want to read The Girl in the Ice but haven’t found a copy of the book yet. I have heard that its a really interesting thriller. Great list, so many books and it seems that you liked most of the books in your recently finished list. I hope you will enjoy your next reads just as much. Happy reading and enjoy your Wednesday.

I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying ADSOM so far 🙂
I haven’t read Norwegian Wood, but I enjoyed the other 2 Murakami books I have read. Weird, but wonderful!

I’m really excited to be reading ADSOM! I think I’m putting Norwegian Wood on hold and just read it first… That one is actually my first Murakami read, but I have more of his work on my TBR pile.

When you get around to reading The Name of the Star, I’ll definitely be interested to hear your thoughts. I recently found it at a thrift store and hadn’t heard about it before, but it sounds so good.

Out of My Mind is such a good read! I need to read a Murakami book. I have one of his, but it’s so long I just stare at it, lol. 😀 One of these days…
Here’s my post for the week. 🙂

Good to hear Out Of My Mind is good! I’m probably going to pick it up next. Norwegian Wood is the first Murakami book I’ve picked up as well… I have copies of some of his other books including one of 1Q84, but like you I never actually picked those up so far. 😉

Holy love triangles batman! It’s a bit much in a single book, but in more than one in a row? Ewww.. no wonder you’re trying for romance free books lol. Wish you luck with your reads+

Haha I know! I’m definitely suffering of a huge love triangle overdose right now… And Suicide Notes kind of had one in the end as well, sigh. I think I’m putting Norwegian Wood on hold for now because I’m suspecting it has a lot of romance in it; especially since at least I already know ADSOM doesn’t have a love triangle. 😉

Suicide Notes sounds good, I just checked it on Goodreads and I am definitely reading this! Also, I love the cover. My harrowing stay in Japan last year still prevents me from reading anything in Japanese or from a Japanese author. It might wear off at some point, but so far, I haven’t recovered from the mandatory Japanese 24/7. I’ve seen The Girl in the Ice on a few posts, I’d like to read what you have to say about it 🙂 Happy reading

Suicide Notes is interesting enough, although it’s not my favorite about the theme… And I can definitely understand why living in a country can prevent you from wanting to read something related for a while… I’m not sure what to think of Murakami so far, but then again I’ve only just started it. 😉

The only book I read was A Darker Shade of Magic, but I didn’t care for it that much. I’m glad your enjoying it.

I think you’re one of the first that didn’t like A Darker Shade Of Magic that much… It’s still too early to know for sure what I’ll make of it, but I guess some books just are not for everyone. 🙂

I’ve been dying to read A Darker Shade of Magic! Everyone seems to love the series. A lot of these other books in your post look and sound so interesting!

Me too! I think part of the fact that I’m so excited to be finally reading this series is that people keep recommending it to me… Hopefully it will live up to expectations. 😉

Too bad you keep running into love triangles. They can grow so big they overshadow what you love about a book. I hope you escape them with whatever you end up picking up next.

I do seem to have had too many love triangles in my recent reads… Luckily Out Of My Mind didn’t have one and A Darker Shade Of Magic doesn’t seem to have one either. 😉

I hope you escape the triangles soon!! The Nightingale is a terrific read and I have heard great things about Norwegian Nights too!

Good to hear you enjoyed The Nightingale! It definitely sounds like something I would enjoy as well. I’m not sure if I like Norwegian Wood so far, but I’m not too far into it yet so things might improve.
