  • WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

I’m currently reading The Murder At The Vicarage by Agatha Christie so that I can both complete my classics goal and get my first new year in for the Reading Through The Centuries challenge… I’ve been curious about the Miss Marple books for years so I decided to put Hercule Poirot temporarily on hold while I try this series. I will also be starting my final (for now) pending June ARC and blog tour read The German Wife by Kelly Rimmer. The blurb sounds fascinating so I have high hopes for it!

  • WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

1. The Secret Life Of Albert Entwistle by Matt Cain (5/5 stars) REVIEW
Mention a comparison to the works of Fredrik Backman and TJ Klune and I’m instantly intrigued; add a promise of an older main character and a charming story about second chance love and there was simply no way on earth that I was going to resist this story. I’ve been wanting to read The Secret Life Of Albert Entwistle ever since I first heard about it last year… In a way I’m glad I waited until the audiobook though, because I ended up having a fantastic experience listening to Albert’s story.

2. Scarred by Thomas Enger (4/5 stars) REVIEW 28/05
I’m determined to finish the Henning Juul series before the end of 2022, and Scarred is already book number three following the life of the reporter Henning Juul. What I like of this series that it gives us a different angle to a crime story than your usual detective thriller, although we have plenty of that POV as well in Scarred. In fact, this story uses a multiple POV structure and not only has many different voices, but also three separate storylines. The story could have been sharper in points, but as a whole it turned out to be yet another successful sequel.

3. Broken by Karin Slaughter (2,5/5 stars) REVIEW 28/05
Right… I already feared this would happen to be honest. Once again, a perfectly solid crime thriller was completely ruined for me thanks to the appearance of one character… Can you guess who she is? I completely agree with Sara’s mother on this: why can’t we just stop mentioning her altogether?! Anyway, I tried to give the story a chance because the blurb did sound interesting and I do like Will Trent and Sara, but it was an uphill battle and a mission bound to fail. And since I refuse to have to deal with Lena AGAIN in the future, I guess I won’t be finishing this series after all.

4. On A Quiet Street by Seraphina Nova Glass (4/5 stars) REVIEW 29/05
I have to be honest and say that I wasn’t sure if this book would be for me, because I’m usually not a fan of a cheating angle in my stories… But after reading this review by Jonetta I simply couldn’t resist getting a copy of On A Quiet Street anyway, and especially because I’ve enjoyed Seraphina Nova Glass‘ writing in the past. And I’m glad Jonetta brought this book back on my radar, because I ended up having a strangely excellent time with this domestic thriller filled with basically unstable and unreliable characters!

5. Amongst Our Weapons by Ben Aaronovitch (3,5/5 stars) REVIEW 30/05
I was a bit worried about my reaction to this sequel to be honest after the previous book was such a disappointment… But thankfully Amongst Our Weapons is much more like the first seven books in tone and style. There is lots of banter, magic and dangerous situations Peter Grant always seems to get himself into; it might not be my favorite book of the bunch, but it was still very entertaining.

  • WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?

I will most likely pick up The Book Of Cold Cases by Simone St. James next because I don’t want to wait any longer… Afterwards I will probably read My Sister’s Grave by Robert Dugoni. I accidently got an ARC of book nine of the Tracy Crosswhite series (I thought it was a stand-alone), and while there is no way that I’m going to be able to read all previous books before it’s due in two months, I do hope to read at least the first few. I also need to read The Mutant Mushroom Takeover by Summer Rachel Short for the BTB Bingo challenge. My latest TBR jar pick Master Class by Christina Dalcher most likely will have to wait until June.
