- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I’m close to finishing Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch… It took me long enough! I still love the worldbuilding and the story is quite interesting, although I’m not completely blown away by it either. I also picked up my copy of Eve by Iris Johansen during my days away camping, but I don’t really like it so far. The case sounds interesting, but I feel I miss a lot of background information and the whole sexual attraction/romance scenes are cringe worthy. Fingers crossed things will improve later on!
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
Only one book finished this week: Confessions by Kanae Minato. It took me a little while to get used to the writing style, but as soon as I started reading the second confession (chapter), I was hooked. A very dark, disturbing but intriguing read!
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
I finally have a copy of All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, so I’m planning to pick it up soon. I might read Mr. Kiss And Tell by Rob Thomas first though, since I really loved the first book in the series… And I want to give Gillian Flynn another go and read her other novel Sharp Objects as well. My latest TBR jar pick is still Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider.
All The Light We Cannot See is also on my TBR and I’ve seen lots of positive reviews about it so I hope you enjoy it. I also have Sharp Objects on my Kindle; I’ll get to it eventually 🙂

I hope Sharp Objects is better than Gone Girl and Dark Places… A lot of people seem to have it as their favorite Gillian Flynn, so I’m keeping my hopes up. I’m really looking forward to All The Light We Cannot See! It sounds like such a great read. 😀

I like the sound of Confessions and it would be good to read something by a Japanese writer other than Murakami. But I’m currently on a very dark book, so I might have to read some more fluffy, sunny things first! 🙂

Confessions was really good! But I need a light read after I finish Snow Like Ashes as well; too many dark books make me want to read something ‘feel-good’.

I’m having mixed thoughts about Snow Like Ashes so far, but the good thing is that there isn’t too much focus on the romance or love triangle so far… Fingers crossed the last part is good. 😉

Confessions is a dark but very intriguing read! Definitely worth it. I’m looking forward to read both Sharp Objects and All The Light We Cannot See, although I might read something light first…

Aw I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy Snow Like Ashes as much as you thought you would. Do you think you’ll give the second book a try?

I already have a copy, so I will most likely read Ice Like Fire some time this year as well. I still have to finish Snow Like Ashes though, so it depends on the ending how quickly I will pick up the sequel.

I agree! It took me a while to get into the story (the first confession is still my least favorite), but once I reached the second one I was hooked.

I’m so sorry the romance in ‘Eve’ is hard to read. That can really ruin a book for me. I hope it gets better. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

I don’t mind a little romance if it’s well written, but in Eve it’s really unnatural and almost weird. I’m still in doubt whether to continue it or pick up something else instead… Happy reading and thanks for hosting!

I’m the opposite when it comes to world building. It’s so much work to realign your thinking with a whole new world. Sorry to hear you not liking Eve. Is it the second/third/etc. in a series? or just not good with the character backgrounds?
I’m so happy you liked Confessions. I feel like I have said that way too much on your WWW posts, but it’s nice when a book you’re interested in is well liked by others.

I love extensive worldbuilding in a fantasy story as long as it’s done in the right way and there isn’t too much info-dumping… The world in Snow Like Ashes is really interesting; it’s other things that I’m not sure I like.
On the cover of Eve was stated that it was the first book of a trilogy, but it is actually also part of a different series (the 11th book I believe). I didn’t know that before so part of the problem is that I haven’t read those previous books. (But then again, the cover and blurb were misleading)
Confessions is without doubt a book worth reading! Dark, but very intriguing and well written.

That’s very disappointing that it is so far into a series while being sold as if it’s the first of a trilogy.. You can’t help but feel like you’re missing a lot at that point.

I wish I would have known before, because there is a lot of background missing to properly understand the main character… But even with all that information, I still wouldn’t like the writing style either.
