WWW WEDNESDAYS is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World Of Words and is all about answering the three questions below.
- WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I have been reading Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult, which is this months The Revolving Shelf book club choice. The other book I’ve picked up is The Reader On The 6.27 by Jean-Paul Didierlaurent, a story originally written in French I’ve chosen as my translated title for the yearly Bookish Bingo challenge.
- WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
* The first book I managed to finish is The Improbable Theory Of Ana And Zak by Brian Katcher. It was without doubt a very entertaining read and I loved Zak’s chapters with all its awkward, geeky and funny moments, but I wasn’t so charmed by Ana… Still definitely worth reading though.
* I’ve also finished The Strange And Beautiful Sorrows Of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton, which I had mixed feelings about. I don’t think the story actually lives up to the expectations after seeing the gorgeous cover… Some of the prose is more than excellent, but I would have liked to read more about Ava herself and I felt the story lacked cohesion.
* I also finally read Daugher Of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor. I expected to love this story and it started out that way, but this ended up being another of my unpopular opinion titles… Once the insta-love moment happened between Akiva and Karou, I think I stopped enjoying this story. Why o why did a story with so much potential have to be turned into a sappy romance story?!
* The first book I finished during Bout Of Books 16.0 was All The Rage by Courtney Summers, which turned out to be a fast read even though I didn’t find it as good as I thought it would be. The topic is a difficult one (rape and disappearance of a female teenager), but I couldn’t really connect with the main character…
* The last book I finished this week is Love Letters To The Dead by Ava Dellaira, which was my latest TBR jar pick. Not as good as I hoped, but not bad either.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?
Hero by Belinda Crawford is my newest ARC that I am really looking forward to read, since it brings the promise of being a YA sci-fi novel without any sappy romance scenes… Which seems to be a rare thing in this genre nowadays. I also want to try to read another classic this month, and The Time Machine by H.G. Wells is on the top of my list. I still need to read See How They Run by Ally Carter as well… And Stars Above by Marissa Meyer is my newest TBR jar pick. I’ve actually read a few of these novellas in this collection last year, so I will only be reading those I don’t know yet.
Your opinion on Smoke and Bone once again confirms us as book twins 🙂 I was gutted. It started out so brilliantly. Weird otherly creatures, action in Prague, random angels… and then random insta-love?!?! And unfortunately it brings down the rest of the series too 😦 Such a shame because, on top of everything else, the writing is terrific.
I think I’m going to be the last person to read Stars Above! 😉 Maybe it can be my treat for when I finally read Outlander…hmn.

Haha I guess we are! 😉 When I started reading Daughter Of Smoke & Bone I was blown away by the excellent prose, worldbuilding and characters… And I guess that is what made the appearance of Akiva and the resulting insta-love and romance even worse.
And I was leaving Stars Above for later as well, but since it’s a TBR jar pick I will just read it… Although I probably should do the same; who knows it might actually finally make me read Outlander.

You’re the second person who I’ve seen have that reaction to Daughter of Smoke and Bone (in fact, I think Claire may have been the first). I’ve got it on my TBR, but it’s not very high up. I’m going to have to look up Ana and Zak, it sounds really cute!

I guess going in with low expectations and a warning that the second part is mostly romance will probably make you enjoy the story better… And The Improbable Theory Of Ana And Zak is definitely a cute story. 🙂

I love Jodi Picoult but haven’t read Leaving Time yet – I’m interested to see what you think of it. 🙂 I hope you enjoy the rest of these books!

Leaving Time is my second Jodi Picoult (I loved The Storyteller) and so far it’s definitely interesting. I loved elephants when I was little so it’s a nice reference.

I am always surprised when I see a book originally in French mentioned in a post. I am so used to seeing French people read foreign literature that I forget the other way around is allowed too. How are you liking the story? I was thinking about adding the French version to my TBR, but I have completely given up on reading in my native language, so I’ll stick to English.
Happy reading! 🙂

I always like reading foreign literature, although I normally try to read them in the original language. Unfortunately my French isn’t exactly good enough (read: a total disaster haha) to read it in French, so the translation will have to do in this case. 😉 I’m not that far into the story yet, but so far it’s definitely interesting.

I had the same feeling with All The Rage. Romy was a hard character to like and I didn’t connect with her at all.

I felt almost the same way as you did about Daughter of Smoke & Bone. Loved the first 2/3 of the book, hated the last part of it. Happy reading!

It’s definitely creative! And the story itself is awkwardly and geekishly cute. 😀

I loved Stars Above. It was nice having a little bit extra. Some stories were better than others but I enjoyed them all. But then I really enjoyed the series. I hope you enjoy it 🙂 Happy Reading.

I’ve read most of the earlier novellas already and quite enjoyed them, although I agree some are better than others. I’m looking forward to read the rest of them! Happy reading. 🙂

I’m so sad to hear you didn’t like Daughter of Smoke and Bone! That was one I was looking forward to reading. Darn. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone has been in my TBR forever and I’m really hoping to get to it soon, even though I’ve heard both positive and negative comments like yours. I think it’s one of those books you either hate or love and I’m really curious to see what it’s gonna be for me.

I think I’m in the minority for not liking Daughter Of Smoke & Bone, so I hope that you do enjoy it! The first part of the story is simply brilliant, so it depends on how you will react to all the insta-love and (cheesy) romance scenes. Happy reading!

I love the book cover for The Reader on the 6.27. Your recently finished books are all books that I want to read. I’ve seen a lot of mixed thoughts for Ava Lavender.

The Reader On The 6.27 turned out to be a really interesting read as well! 😀 I personally was a bit disappointed by Ava Lavender, although the writing in some parts is simply exceptional. Oh well, at least I still have the gorgeous cover to stare at… 😉

I have Leaving Time on the unread bookshelf…my daughter loves her and has every single one of her books. I’ve only read 3 so far but have loved them all. I hope you enjoy it!

I have only read The Storyteller before and Leaving Time is completely different, but I’m really enjoying it! It’s a perfect mix of a missing person case, paranormal elements and a lot of elephants. 😀
